It would have been nice if the interviewer let them talk instead of cutting them off every time they tried to explain something. They couldn't get a thought out without him interrupting.

I don't understand the hate either. I feel like the people hating on this are the same kind of people who would hate a film like Under the Skin. It's just a failure to appreciate artistry and originality. I for one appreciate Amirpour for making a black-and-white/vampire/spaghetti western just like I appreciate her making a black comedy/romance/cannibal/acid western with The Bad Batch. At least she's bold and made something she wanted to make and made a pretty damn good film in the process.

Wow so many people calling this movie "hipster trash" without having seen it. I saw it last night and it was a pretty good flick, not the greatest of all time but pretty good. Great atmosphere, very well shot, and the characters are interesting. it gets a little boring in part but yeah. People watch the movie and make up your own mind instead of calling it "shit" without having seen it.

"A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night" is brilliant on so many levels. Being a radio broadcaster / concert producer with 15 years experience puts me in a position to comment here with authority . . . this interviewer does everything wrong that could possibly be done wrong during the course of this 31 minute piece. The audio editing (prevalent here) is a desperate attempt to save this catastrophe. Totally unprofessional on all counts. Amirpour and Vand deserve more than this. Much more. Love the movie and Amirpour's independent spirit. Can't wait to watch her career unfold over the next many years.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and its artistic intention. The only things that leaves me questioning is why people comment on a movie that they don't care for...Have any of you actually created art or been involved in a long time project?! Its obvious a lot of heart, creativity, and deep thought was put into this film.

I just watched the film, knew nothing of it, loved it. I came straight here and saw just as many thumbs down votes as thumb up votes and wondered why. I watched the interview and now I know why. Lol maybe it is just my feelings but this is so fucking pretentious. Yes there is a good discussion but for example the swearing is so unnecessary and shock for shocks sake. I see why others called them hipsters and I get why. I think while there was some good insight everything was exaggerated (to sound deep) and so damn self important. I think the thing that encapsulates the underbelly of stupid best is this dialogue. Actress: "I was in a really dark place" Interviewer: "a dark place? physically or emotionally" Actress "Personally" Ok so I laughed at the interviewer question as there is enough wrong with that alone but I understood the dichotomy he meant even though there is no dichotomy and one actually leads to the other. To make it worse the answer "Personally" was perfect. Personally pointless. Personally? As opposed to what?! lol. But it makes as much sense as the question I suppose. All that said, the movie is great, the drug dealer was great and clearly based off Ninja. The one thing that ripped me out of the film like Neo coming out of the Matrix was the drug use. Oh my god, the drug scenes are written, acted etc by people who have only seen drug use in bad movies. I can forgive the drug dealer mistakes as that was a stylised character but the drug use was wrong on so many levels, in so many ways.

DarkBungleX Actually, I've found that a lot of artists or art enthusiasts speak like that. I understand your point. At the end of the day, you speak with someone and there's no authenticity and no real meaning. But I usually try to remain positive and understand whatever point of view they have. I also found that the film was cute, but didn't really have a lot to say; it did make a statement about women in Iran (that's what I felt), but except this it was more stylized than had a real story to say or character development.
@correiodozac

"the swearing is so unnecessary" I feel that too... But only on the part of the interviewer. Seems quite forced. But most thumbs down are from people that don't like "hipsters" indie stuff. They are just stupid conservative people.

Just watched it for the first time after wanting to for so long. It was very stylishly made, and the soundtrack was great. There were a lot of old black and white film inspirations and definitely some Nosferatu vibes there. I kinda thought the pacing desired a little more, that made the film slump at times but overall the film was good.

I disagree with Ana Amirpour's thoughts on the immaturity of not loving love. I am close to 30 now, and I can say that in all my life only one girl has ever looked at me in a romantic way (deeply.) I am not attractive and kind of resemble to myself to have a Nosferatu kind of look. That being said not too many people talk to you in a romantic sense, but at the time and now at this time, every once in awhile I will get noticed, and it depresses me. It depresses me more than anything, and I am not ashamed to say that I cannot even touch someone without feeling miserable. So, I sit here and I look upon others in love, heart breaks, sex and all that nonsense, and I guess I can't see the maturity in that. We are all alone like she said, so how can you claim that another should belong to you? This is just me though, and I'm not trying to attack anyone.
@elevenseven-yq4vu
@elevenseven-yq4vu 9 ай бұрын
I don't think (true) love is about belonging to anyone (that would be ownership, slavery, obsession, passion, giving up of self and self-respect). Love is about cherishing someone or something for their/its own sake, about empathy and sympathy, a longing to understand and come closer to the subjective truth of someone, to accept and want to support them, or a desire to learn the truth of something on its own terms at least as well if not even more so than regarding what it means to you at this point in time. At the same time (true) love is also about sharing and balance, not about losing yourself completely in what you love but rather about an added perspective and possibility in life to feel free and in touch with your-self in the presence someone or something else - or while doing something, possibly a shared activity; it is about coming to a better understanding of yourself by stepping outside of the limits of who you thought you were before by engaging with someone or something outside of yourself, and by feeling more like you are welcome right where you are in life.

The movie was good. A little uncertain at the end. Fooled me into thinking that the cast was actually Iranian and that the movie was iranian. Thats not that good, cause I was swearing that iranians rock. Maybe they do. I wanted it real bad to be a Middle-eastern thing like immediately. Listening to Sheila vand and Ana Lily speak in english... mmm nah. Sexy, playful movie thou. Ms. Vand gets my vote for the pretty eyes and the tortured gaze on her faceThe song played at the casette in the car in the last scene should have bee Lionel Ritchie's "Hello". And then cut when the cat looks forward to the camera while crouched on the back seat. But it didnt happened, so that fucked my morning real bad :) This interview is ok.

Start with an idea about which topic you wanna write. Then imagine different characters, that have had different experiences with and have different attitudes towards the topic. Think of situations in which these characters can meet and interactions in which their different points of view might clash. Construct a plot around these characters and situations. Ask yourself which character(s) might click with (like or dislike strongly) most of the other characters. Make that your lead character(s). Re-write the story so that your main character(s) is/are being challenged several times, have to overcome obstacles, and by doing so have to re-evaluate their past experiences and current beliefs regarding the topic of your story.
