About:
Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.
The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year - the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

She's shaking cause it's part of the role. Not because she's weak or reaching her "flexibility point". Victoria is supposed to be a young cat blossoming into her newfound adult-cat-hood. It's supposed to be like an innocent teenage girl maturing into an adult, the shaking is kinda like dramatic effect of her discovering her "woman-hood".

I wish people would stop saying she’s shaking because of instability or stretching point because that’s actually false!!! This girl they have playing Victoria is a profound Ballerina. She’s shaking on purpose. Look at her face. She’s supposed to be the youngest cat there in heat for the first time. And sprouting into her adulthood for the first time. Listen to the behind the scenes commentary of any version of this film they will tell you that was always the approach. Even when the play first started. That’s why the males are always rubbing against her. Every single Victoria ever performed shakes like that. Also look at her hand when they close up on it it’s shaking.

I heard when Andrew Lloyd Webber was first writing this show, Victoria and Jemima were supposed to be the same character. The role was only split into two because they couldn't find someone with the necessary singing AND ballet dancing caliber

I needed to purge the CGI from my retinas.This is how its done. Practical effects, make up and grace. Not that CGI monstrosity they pulled. She even looks like a cute kitten!

Actually excited for the movie version. It's nice to see life being brought into the musical! regardless of what version you grow up watching, it's nice to see people enjoy it!

@@SpyX9LP I really liked the movie. And just today I saw the actress who played Rumpleteaser posted some behind the scene photos. Everyone had face paint on, and were in their mocap suits. It really is kinda amazing how far the technology of performance capture has come. I was astonished by the choreography in the film, even morsoe now that I know that aspect of it was practical. I really enjoyed the film, and I just ordered a copy of the 1998 recording, because this show is just my jam in all forms. :)

Skybrine Plays hahahaha they ALL are. The many times they have different males rub against her. She’s the youngest in heat for the first time so it makes sense that the males are starring because they want to mate

trashy that’s one of my favorite parts. Because it’s the CLOSEST actual sight we get of typical cat behavior. This whole play is about what strays and somewhat strays actually do in the wild. While they don’t sing and dance you get the view by either the words in the song or the actual show. In the wild all those males would be with her before the nights end. But they also focus on other things. Like the twins in their song they tell you about constantly getting into trouble by sneaking into the houses break stuff and eat all the food. While you see skimbleshanks say one thing in his song but show you what he really does in the performance. Sleeps watches everyone takes stuff chases mice but everything in his song is stuff that he has told them he does when really it’s the other way

I was wondering about this part of the musical but now that some one says is Victoria entering adult hood. As a child I mistook her as alpha female and demonstrated her dominance over the other cats since at the time I didn’t know Queen was something they called female cats.

The more I watch this production, the more incredible I find the physical beauty of the performers to be. Sensual, perfect and awe inspiring. The human body can be so beautiful to see... and these performers are beyond Olympic level fitness and flexibility but also bring artistic grace and power. Heavenly.

The dance in the play is awesome, but they made her the main character in the movie, which is what really ruined it. The play was never about one single cat throughout the production, the movie made Victoria a main character going through the streets of London and learning about Jellicle cats.

I adore this version of Cats. After looking at some clips of the recent musical, I thought it looked hideous, like a nightmare. Even had I not also disliked the changes they made to the characters, if I can't stand the way a movie looks, then never mind! It was quite satisfying that they spent a ton of money on it, promoted it like crazy, and it still flopped.

Mistoffelees looks like my tuxedo cat Friend. (I called him Boy though.) He passed away June 16, 2020. We found him homeless in the fall of 2008. He was the most gorgeous and relaxed cat I've ever met.

I started ballet classes/lessons at age 3 (I’m 16 now) and LET ME TELL YOU, this is difficult. So props to her for being so graceful. I wonder how far she can go into over splits 🤔🤔

Speaking of "blue eyes", there's a theory (which could be true) out there about Victoria. Since Victoria's a pure white cat with blue eyes, they're deaf due to their type of breed. This actually makes sense since she never has any solo songs about her reason to go to the Heaviside Layer. She only sings when the other cats are singing.

If I had to show someone just one thing from Cats to sell them on the concept, it's this short number. I can't help but feel like this is a pure, concentrated little example of the core inspiration of the musical; 'Doesn't ballet lend itself naturally to catlike movement, and isn't that beautiful and a little eerie to watch.'

For those of you who hate cats, you haven't met the Burmese and the Abyssinian cat breeds. They are very friendly, dog- like, and beautiful. They are also hyper-allergenic.

Katie O'Neil Sorry to be "that guy", but I think you mean Hypoallergenic. "Hyperallergenic" means it would cause more allergies than usual cats, while Hypoallergenic cats are the ones that usually don't cause most allergic reactions.

Katie O'Neil To be 100% honest, there is no true hypoallergenic cat. Depending on the allergy of course, but people unfortunate enough to have the same allergy as me are allergic to all cats. And dogs. Or any animal that cleans itself with its tongue.

“Victoria and Mis are siblings” In some cases, yes. In some cases, no. In some productions, it is true that Mis and Victoria are siblings. But in London times (and other musicals) it shows interactions between the two. As Mis watches her doing her solo (nobody else does) can be both a “She’s in heat, crush crush” act or a “look that’s my sis!” Act Invitation to Jellicle Ball, he rubs her leg (of course knowing that she’s in heat) which makes her shake (cause of heat) Also in London and in some other musicals, both Victoria and Mis dance “the mating dance.” (But it’s usually plato) In London also (somewhere in san diego downtown 2014 too) they usually sit together in some musics (sometimes holding hands.) can be a sibling act or a crush act too. (2019 movie doesn’t count.)

That’s why all the males keep rubbing against her. Mistoffelees, grimork, skimbleshanks misto, and plato literally all touch her flirty. Incest is highly common in wild animals. They don’t know they’re related. They just know she’s female in heat sprouting into adulthood

galaxy gamergirl also if you watch the part labeled Victoria and Plato you see the cats forming a big circle in small groups on the floor. He goes to her she takes a step but then pulls away nervously he takes another step and she rubs up against him. He picks her up and you see the other actors in there groups shake their legs similar to her in this one. They move close to them and skimbleshanks crawls up to her and Plato. The actor then lowers her while she leans in close. Skimbleshanks then turns onto his back in a stance leaning his head back. Plato lays her down on skimbleshanks stomach she leans back and he rubs starting from her stomach down. The other cats are right next to them now and they all lay flat in one tight circle. Symbolizing mating season. Every one is with everyone. No cat has one specific mate.

I wanted to see cats as a kid for the music I heard from a commercial, performing as cats was a neat concept to me and the people pulled it off pretty good I thought. Then I saw cats on dvd instead because cats in this live cast didn't exist anymore on stage later on. It was better than I thought it could be! Victoria is one of the characters that keeps me going back to watch cats another time. Most of the songs and music too. All of that out of one children's book that was read by a imaginative person. A great show that should should be passed down to enjoy!

I love it even if she did the shakes, it reminds me of how hard things are at first and the progression of the dance makes it all more effective of the transformation.
