Gentlemen this song title is in reference to the elvis paintings that most collectors bought from roadside vendors. They are usually painted on black velvet to bring out the concert feel of an auditorium and the bright costumes he wore. Fans who love him and these works buy quite a lot of them.

Exactly! And many people have made fun of black velvet Elvis paintings. I think that this song points out - black velvet -yes, but there is undeniable sexiness, heat, something in Elvis that gripped a generation and many people after. It's taking back that black velvet...

@@SMtWalkerS I had an aunt, who was ironically buried today, that had several of these paintings. If she saw a store or roadside vendor she had to pull over to see if there was a painting she didn't have. It was a religion to her & many like her. So yes, when they black velvet if you please, they only want elvis, nothing but elvis.

@@michellejones-zu1kq I'm sorry about your auntie. Yes, the black velvet painting thing is fascinating. My Texas cousins all have at least one, and the Elvis postage stamps are framed and enshrined. I must admit, I love Elvis, too, mostly from the old movies. "Blue Hawaii" and "GI Blues" and such.

I’ve always liked this song. She has a great voice. I like female singers to have a stronger, grittier sound to their voice. And the music…... Whew! It has a sensual, bluesy rhythm that is very nice. Can definitely hear some Stevie Ray Vaughan in that guitar. Good choice.

Memories of transferring to our local police station to work in 1989. The happiest years of my life working with 30 guys who were like brothers to me. They took care of my son and myself when my relationship broke down, and they checked our doors and windows every night and made sure that we were safe. I still miss those wonderful guys to this day, so respectful, funny and very entertaining. Every day was a fun day, and I looked forward to going to work each day. This is what I think of hearing this song, very happy memories!!!

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rs2midp_vNbde30.htmlsi=0Tt5KsOeulL3e1Iq m.youtube.com/@blublocker Thanks for the post. Fun story for sure and thanks for sharing, but the lede got buried with the BluBlockers. 😂 Man, is that a memory from the past or what? For those that may not be aware, BluBlockers were sunglasses and a participant in what companies/stores started calling "As Seen On TV" products in America. There was a time in the mid-to-late 1980s where it was nearly impossible to watch a few hours of TV and avoid a BluBlockers commercial (what would be quite similar on today's American TV when it comes to car insurance commercials). Regardless, the BluBlockers ads, as the poster above mentioned, would feature very kitschy "people on the street" interviews, where the people would give on-camera testimonials as to how the BluBockers were the greatest invention since fire and the telephone. 😂 The first link above may be the most well-known BluBlockers commercial of all time that features a "hip hopper" that goes by the name of "Geek" that uses his camera time, while stylishly wearing a sombrero with his BluBlockers, to rap about how much better his life has become due to his new sunglasses. 😂 This is no lie or exaggeration, but I think the reason why I put together this reply when I went down "memory lane" on KZfaq was to find that there is an actual BluBlockers channel. That is the second link above. Taking a quick review at that, I rushed to Google to do a quick search and I found that....wait for it...BluBlockers is still very much in business! 🎉 So if you want to relive the "glory days" of the 1980s or early 1990s, be sure to search BluBlockers, go on their website, and get a pair (or 3) today. Who says that American and global capitalism is dead? We've got BluBlockers surviving all kinds of economic strife since the 1980s and thriving in its FIFTH decade! 😂 As a final note, I want to put it in writing that if the guys now get a BluBlockers sponsorship on the channel, then the above poster and I are each entitled to at least 10% of the revenue from the sponsorship or a free pair of BluBlockers (whatever is worth more). 😎 😂

I could be totally wrong, (it was a long time ago) but I think I remember hearing that "Black Velvet" is referring to those paintings they would sell on the side of the road or under tents in parking lots. A LOT of them were sparkly paintings of Elvis with black velvet as the canvas. It was just cheap art.
