"You really do believe that I'm the worst" "LOOK WHAT YOU DID!" She screeched hitting a tone that could cause small animals distress. A sly smile began to cross my lips, jutting my chin out, knowingly making it now a teeth baring grin. She looked at me only getting more frustrated, weaving her fingers through her hair. "Actually, I did nothing" the confusion, horror and disbelief flashed across her face one after the other. "What" her voice was small, timid, and unfortunately hopeful. I could see it in her eyes, that intense need for this to be false, that I could never be apart of this, but she needed to know. "Free will my dear. I'm not allowed to make anyone do anything, but I can tell them how if they chose and it's so easy to make it look fun." A single tear fell, sliding down her cheek, then gliding down her neck. She let it rest there, while, she stayed staring at the floor. I could see her mind racing. She was trying to process everything I just told her. I was making everything she cared for in this universe crumble before her eyes. I, however, was growing bored. "If you are so troubled with how your pets are behaving may I suggest mass genocide?" The smile was still plastered on my face. I hated them, and she knew it. They don't deserve her love or adulation. They were nothing but disgusting vermin and I was through tolerating them. "What the hell happened to you?" Her eyes red, bottom lip quivering, desperately fighting back the sob threatening to consume her. The smile left my eyes, and I turned away from her. I looked outside at nothing in particular but I couldn't stand looking at her face. I don't regret my actions, but I hated hurting her. I sighed thinking of it only as a necessary evil. She took a sharp, ragged breath in. Rage was building in her. It was visibly turning white hot by the second. "What happened to you!?" She demanded, her voice carrying regal authority. I looked at her and sighed. "I'm the exact same as I was a millennia ago when you first learned of my existence. " She began to shake her head furiously back and forth. "That's not true!" She bellowed. "What exactly about my actions, feelings, or opinions have changed!? The fact you refused to see me after I gave you every chance to do so is not my fault." I could feel my voice begin to elevate as anger quickly arose in me. "I'll stop you" I nodded, easing myself further back in my chair. She glared at me before she exited. Her beautiful eyes, that once took me in with adoration and unconditional love, now only hatred rolled off of her, solely for me. Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for her, I knew the truth. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference.

This is great inspiration for a character for a book I've been planning. The character is classic good-girl, always followed rules, and was spoiled beyond belief. One day, she decides to test the boundaries by breaking a few rules. After getting away with it, she slowly decides to go further and further until someone finally tells her 'no'. That person is her older brother, and he's never seen again after that. She finds out that the rush that comes with her actions is addicting, she wants more. That's why the mind games with the police start as they investigate the disappearance of her brother.

small sample of what this inspired in me: The night is cold. A young woman sits on her porch. She drinks in the cool, clean fall air. She shivers and pulls her sweater tighter around her shoulders. She is waiting for someone, something, anything. Down the block, three men stumble out of a bar. Music and the scent of alcohol fills the air. One of the men sits down and leans up against the outside of the building. The other two stagger unsteadily up the street, talking far too loudly, slurring their words. The young woman stands up quickly and moves back inside the house until the men pass and are long gone. A sudden feeling- the feeling you get when you subconsciously know something is there- makes her glance up and down the street lit by a streetlight every few hundred yards. The farthest light she can see flickers, and then the next farthest, then the next, until the one right outside her house flickers. She curls up as small as she can in her blanket, hiding. She mentally chides herself for being so childishly frightened of a flickering light. The young woman slowly stretches out again and glances up and down the street once more. Then she silently and swiftly stands up, walks inside, and locks the door behind her. She presses her back against the door, clutching the key closer to her racing heart. Try as she might, she can’t shake the feeling that she’s being watched. What she doesn’t know is that she is right. Ridiculous, the young woman thinks, to believe that after two weeks in her new house in a new town, she would be the victim of her own horror movie- the kind that freezes you in terror, your heart climbing up into your throat, your senses on high alert, every noise sending a chill down your spine. “Sinister,” she whispers. The whole little town of Centralia, Pennsylvania is weird. There are only six other people living here- and no one who would want to hurt her, she adds. But no one can deny that strange things have been happening. One of the town’s residents, a twenty-something man named Liam, disappeared for days. When they found him, he was wandering in the forest with his hands covered in blood. He resisted the police when they tried to take him home. When they finally got him to stop fighting them, he began shaking uncontrollably, muttering under his breath and every so often laughing to himself. Something had happened to him in those woods that had… broken him. Hallucinations? Maybe. Some drug? Even more possible. But no one is sure of anything anymore except his awful state and the town’s set-you-on-edge feeling. The woman shivers again and slowly goes up the staircase. When her cat brushes her leg on the top step, she yelps and leaps up into the air. She picks up the cat with trembling hands, glances around nervously, and then composes herself as best she can. As she locks her bedroom door she pauses. Why is she so paranoid? Monsters and ghosts aren't real. “But murderers are,” a voice in her head whispers. She shakes away the thought but runs to her bed, hiding under the covers. As she stares out into the dark room her worst fears surface. What if something followed her inside? What if a murderer was picking the lock right now? What if she never saw the sun again? What if- oh, God, no. The woman shrieks when the cat jumps up onto the bed. “Sorry, sorry. I don’t know what my problem is today,” she whispers as she strokes his furry head. The cat softly mews in protest when she pulls him under the comforter and clutches him to her chest, but soon the cat is curled up against her and has started purring. After lying awake for a while, listening to the silence, she falls into an uneasy sleep.

Feeling like a villain now, do I mind? No.

I always thought of myself as the hero, the man who could do no harm. But then…. I met her and I realized the only difference between a hero and a villain is perceptive. For her, I was the hero, and for anyone who looked her way… let’s just say they won’t be doing that again. Her perspective (Léonie): We made eye contact from across the ballroom, he was beautiful, no doubt, lounging back at his table. His hair dark almost black, his body lean but cut sharply with toned muscle. I’ve never thought much of brown eyes but then, I’d never seen his. Molten whiskey. The kind you’d see a boss drink, swirling it in their glass while looking - or more like plotting - upon their city of crime, cars, lights and stars. Eyes that make the world come alive, and girls look quickly away, blushing. I look at my glass of water, suddenly thirsty. I should have got the wine. Of course, I’d only be here for a little while, balls generally suck. I’m sorry, but who wants to eat caviar and the meat the chef got too lazy to cook? Regardless, I’m here to do what I do best, dance. Thats why I snuck in after all. I look up to seek out a partner just to be drawn back over to the whiskey colored eyes that I find have never left me, making my heart speed up irrationally. I’m not sure what I’m doing as I stand from my table and start walking over to the beautiful man, I just know that i want to dance. ❤️Continuation!❤️: A small smirk appears on his lips as I move towards him, as if he can read my confused thoughts. God, this is a bad idea but I remind myself It’s just a dance, just a dance. I will never see this man again unless it’s on the cover of a magazine and with that thought my inhibitions subside and- I stop in front of the beautiful man and look down at him. He’s even more striking up close. With razor sharp cheek bones, and a dark little beauty mark an inch from the edge of his right eye. It isn’t until his full lips move to form a deep “hmm?” That I snap out of it to ask “um, hello. Would you like to dance?”. He chuckles as if he finds my question amusing. “Aren’t I supposed to ask you that?” His deep voice growls. “Well this is the 21st century, and you haven’t, so I am.” “Hmmm, and what if I said I didn’t know how to dance?” He says in thought, taking my hand in his rough fingers. WHAT? He doesn’t know how to dance? “Well then I’ll lead, of course.” I manage to get out. Amusement dances in his eyes as he looks up at me and reply’s, “You’ll lead?” “Yes, I will.” I say stubbornly. “Well then,” he stands, kissing my hand, and only then do I realize his true size. He’s almost a foot taller than me, but the way he takes my hand and the heat - or more like blaze - with which he’s currently staring down at me, makes me feel delicate rather than small. My throat dries and I stare back up at him only to break eye contact when I hear the current music stop to change, I remember my goal. I take his hand and he lets me lead him, easily keeping up with his long legs, to the center of the ballroom. My favorite place.
