It was Reverend Kelly. He claimed to be a visiting pastor, and the family invited him to stay with them for the night. This was common for respected church families to host visiting clergy, as clergy homes were modest and likely without space to accommodate visitors, and it would have been rude to have visiting clergy pay fir a room for the night.

The poor parents of the girls. Can you imagine you let your daughters go to an event with their friends, you let them spend the night and they end up getting killed with the rest of the house. Like the guilt those parents must have felt, knowing that if their daughters were just home that night they’d have still been alive. I feel so bad for them.

My gramma used to tell me that when someone dies in a house, all the mirrors have to be covered so the spirit moves on, because if they see their reflection they might be stuck and unable to cross over.

Our family has had bad experiences with mirrors. Like if they aren’t new, or we have bought one in like a second hand store yeah we definitely have weird things happening in the house or in our lives. This one lady had thrown out a very pretty round mirror and my sister had gotten it and mom hanged it on the wall. Well, we’d find a small hand print on it like when the mirror fogs up in the bathroom but this was in the living room, and it was not down low where the little ones can reach it. Soooo yeah ! And plus odd things would happen ever since that mirror was picked up. We threw it away and then we didn’t see it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ seams someone else had picked it up. It was a very beautiful mirror so yeah.

@@mariasantoyoblanco1251 there was definetly something attached to the mirror. I guess it was scarry for you to experience that... I like to watch supernatural stuff and I am very open minded, also I am very realistic, I believe there is more than meets the eye but I would never want to experience the supernatural... the only thing I know for sure is what gramma told me, she had some things exactly happen as some woman predicted it would happen to her...

There might be something to that. I think in Islam mirrors aren't really something you should have. I never confirmed it but always hear people say not to get any. I have one (besides my bathroom) and put it in the closet and only use it to check outfit. I hate mirrors.

Covering mirrors after death is a tradition in many cultures though not as common today. Reasons varied, but include the belief that if you look into a mirror after someone dies, you would be next. Another reason was the fear that the soul would be startled by its reflection and remain trapped in the mirror or the home. In Judaism the mirrors are covered to keep one from any distractions of self while mourning the dead. My guess is it was the pastor.
@dushka06
@dushka06 3 жыл бұрын
In my culture, we do cover all mirrors in the house when someone dies. What my grandma used to say, "it's so that the spirits don't get trapped and stay in the house". But like you pointed out, I think it has to do a lot with not being distracted while mourning (for up to a year, men are not supposed to shave, no makeup for women, no one cuts their hair, no entertainment of any kind, stuff like that).

I know this is an older video, so I don’t know who’s gonna see this, but as far as covering the mirrors... in some religions and beliefs, people cover the mirrors after someone in the family dies so that the spirit can move on and not get trapped. At that time, in many areas, having an indoor bathroom was still a novelty. So when a family put one in, it was just the one. My father grew up in the country in western Pennsylvania, and he put the bathroom in his parent’s house in the early 1960s! It’s kind of like when televisions started being sold. People only had one television. It wasn’t until later that they realized that you could have more than one.

I actually have a theory to why the mirrors and windows were covered - back in the day(some cultures even still do this!) would cover mirrors and windows and sometimes stop clocks to “prepare for death.” It was to prevent the spirit from being trapped, and that might be why they covered those things.

Covering mirrors could be an indication of guilt - he couldn't stand seeing himself after what he did. Or maybe it is a pre-funeral ritual. I am from Greece and when somebody dies, its typical to cover mirrors in their house with black or purple textile up until the funeral takes place. I think it's because of the belief that the soul of the dead is still around and could be mirrored in some way (Spooky, I know).

I am from Iowa and have actually been to the this house. It is overwhelmingly sad and heavy in there. I went during the day and there was definitely some bad energy in the house. It was used as a rental for a while, but families did not stay long, and former residents report being so afraid that they would never re-enter the home. It has since been restored to it’s original state, and you can still see the axe gouges in the children’s bedroom. There is also a museum in town and a guided tour to the cemetery. It is horribly sad to see all of the grave stones for the family. It makes it more real than just hearing a story. I LOVE your work! Keep it up! 💜

Normally they cover mirrors so when someone dies in a house, their soul doesnt get trapped or lost in the mirrors. Thats what I've heard

When you mentioned the mirrors being covered I remembered an old custom in the area I am from. Usually, if there is a dead person in the house all the mirrors are being turned or covered because it is believed that a soul without a body can be trapped in the mirror... so it is to prevent that from happening...
