He was asking what the throttle is. Like... how do you *set* the speed. How do you actually move. And everyone kept telling him "there's no speed" so he had no idea what the hell the up and down arrows were.

Joel's life force depends on speed, so he simply couldn't imagine a world without it

I think the fish only goes away after you take a picture of the mark. If you are off on the coordinates and you take a pic, it stays in place.

@@TheKiddingStar he's the game dev equivalent of John Dwyer, probably one of the more out of the box developers out there, dude does not disappoint and im dying to see how Gloomwood will come out.

if you haven't heard of Baurotrauma before, it's essentially this concept but with co-op. Still oddly scary.

Szymanski is a genius, he's made a number of extremely good games that are about this length. Hopefully he adds in some more little details to this.

from my understanding it's like joel said "stalker anomaly" where it teleports you. He got teleported once in the middle of the map and 2nd time it was when he wanted to get away/back from the anomaly. Or instead of teleportation it could be also something like from JoJo (Diavolo stand) time skip where you forgot the last steps you did.

What's even more interesting; there's actually a modeled world space. It isn't just pictures for the sake of it. I can't comprehend the idea of making so much, only to obfuscate it so much. Real devotion to the concept.

@@vahlok1426 it's actually really smart the way he does it. the actual environment is fully modeled but incredibly simply and flat with very minimal texture work, the inside of the Iron Lung is a separate environment just outside the ocean map. When you adjust the position of the Iron lung, you're just moving the coordinates of a separate camera object that moves around the environment according to what you input.

That's interesting considering he was able to get closer to it. I kinda assumed that certain images were set to certain coordinates, and that's how it simulated getting different angles on the points of interest, but consider he managed to get closer to that even tho It's supposed to disappear, maybe that's not the case?

@@MarzaButTube it's a fully 3D world! There's videos on the internet exploring it with no-clip, the angler fish is a object, it disappears after you complete the objective near it, so you would take a photo of the objective, see it, take another, and he would be gone

@@MarzaButTube The camera images aren't pre-rendered. The space that the camera reveals is a fully modeled environment, and the scares are props that orient to the camera object.

the fish does not disappear until a picture is taken from within the acceptable position and angle. joel was lazy about taking the picture from the right place so it didn't disappear when he took his first picture.

To be fair while I don't know if what he said here is intended to be talking shit or not, what he said is correct and shouldn't be presented as such. Subnautica IS NOT a horror game, it's not even trying to be. The devs have stated before people just found it accidentally scary despite that not being the intent, and the one segment that was like going to be deliberately "horror-ish" got cut from the game.
