This is the best-looking vintage saw I've ever had in my shop. There is no doubt that this is a low hour saw. The saw is a one owner saw and bought at an estate sale. Prior to the estate sale, the saw had been sitting in storage for 25-30 years, what a find! I'm going to walk you around the saw, fire it up and attempt to cut through some wood I had lying in the back yard. These old Macs just sound soooo good.
I hope you enjoy the video! If you did, please consider subscribing, give me a like or even share the video. It all helps me, and I genuinely appreciate it!

Still cutting with your Grandfather's saw, what a gift. The 250 is a very cool saw. I actually prefer vintage saws over the newer saws that are being sold today.

Nice saw… it is nice to find them in that condition. I had a Mac 15 in like new condition, I think it is the same motor as a 250 except it is vertical instead of horizontal.

Thanks. I was blown away by the condition of the saw. I do believe you are correct regarding the engines on the two saws. The Mac 15 is hard to find in good condition. That gravity fed carburetor always seems to be beat up and/or missing something.

Just picked up a 250 from Craigslist for $250. It's not in that good of shape like that but in pretty good shape. Trying to figure out when it was made. It has serial 10 then stamped numbers of 21265.

You have a great saw! I'm not sure how you tell when the saw was made? The guy I bought it from knew Macs and told me it was a 1966 saw. If I come across new info that can help you out, I'll let you know!

Thats a really nice almost new cond saw!. In the pile of twenty saw's I bought for $90 there is a 250. Well used. Its not making spark so I havent got around to trying to get it running yet. Also another similar saw. I think it might be a 550? I also have a 10-10 and a 555 . and several more Mc cullochs. Im more of a Homelite guy. My 925 has 2 more CC than the 250 and turns more RPM and weighs less. Those Mculloch saw's look to be sturdy built made to last! I think the C72 Homelite I have is about the same weight CC and RPM as the 250 Mcculloch?

The 250 is a great saw. I definitely lucked out with mine. The 550 is similar, but bigger displacement if memory server, 100+ cc saw. The 10-10 is a go to, tough as nails saw, you'll love it! The 555 is a lot like the 10-10, slightly larger displacement I think. You have some great vintage McCulloch's for sure! Nothing wrong with being a Homelite guy, I have quite a few myself. Like the old vintage McCulloch saws, the old Homelite's are tough, dependable saws. You're right, the Homelite C72 is comparable to the McCulloch 250.

I love my 250s, best way to check the hours is to pull the mufflers and look into the cylinder. Picked up a second 250 from a engineer and he plained it down and put a stihl carb on it and its night and day from my original, both 250s have so much torque.
@EightWheelsRollin
@EightWheelsRollin 9 ай бұрын
My saw is running so good, I haven't got around to pulling the muffler. I will someday. I'm curious, the 250 that's running the carb off the Stihl, did that replace a McCulloch flatback or Tillotson carb? They do have a ton of torque!
@Nick-dw3sv

@EightWheelsRollin I would have to find the engineers number and ask him, remember he said that he had to mill the mount area down, when I get home in a week I can give you the carb number

i couldn’t fit a tillotson in my SUPER 250 and the flat backs are a pain to rebuild. successfully rebuilt my carb and it idles now but when it leans out when i’m making runs it just dies after the RPM shoots. haven’t had time to figure out a mod to fit a tillotson in it yet
@EightWheelsRollin

I've heard that about the McCulloch flatbacks. I was glad to see I didn't have one. Hopefully you can get things figured out as the 250 is a GREAT old saw!
