My oh my.. Bham New Street is looking good now. Had the opportunity to come back there in 2013, it was a messy ground, renovations everywhere. Kinda missed the place, a place i called home during mid 90s, anyway good video Paul, learnt something I didn’t know about history of Bham railways. Awesome!

Very well edited video compared to endless train travels I have seen in US Amtrak, people need to know how to edit their trips down unless something interesting to see. Hope our new Acelas in 2021 (?) are as fast, this time they will have the tilt engineered correctly...LOL Acela 1st class is great Boston to Washington DC. California trains are great especially Coast Starlight from LA to Seattle, go 1st class, sleeper and private dining car and common glass dome car /bar.

I used Virgin West Coast for the first time last week, going from Euston to Edinburgh on the Pendolino, standard class but at £14 each way it was too good to refuse. It's also why they are so durable. Remember that derail one had up in Scotland several years back? The whole train derailed and flipped over at 90MPH and only one person died out of all the passengers. If that's not impressive I don't know what is and it's due to the extremely rigid construction.

Great video! :) I take the Pendolino's alot on the Westcoast Mainline and usually manage to cotton on cheap first class tickets. It's a shame they aren't cleaned properly the majority of the time, if i paid the standard going rates i'd be appauled but i've never had problems with the staff, they've always been friendly. It's a much better first-class than London Midland at least! (Complete waist of money, the only difference is a reclining seat haha). You should check out Abellio Greater Anglia's service from Liverpool Street to Norwich, the train's are older but the first class is pretty great! (Much better food selection than Virgin,though you don't get waited on)

@Paul_Lucas
@Paul_Lucas 7 жыл бұрын
+Instagram Pro Typically, prior to the 05/06 upgrade the majority of intercity trains stopped at Rugby. Now, the only regular intercity service at Rugby is one train per hour in each direction, Birmingham/London, with a few other stops on other routes in the early morning or evening rush hour. Milton Keynes has three intercity trains per hour in each direction, London/Manchester, /Holyhead or Chester, /Birmingham.
@JA-lx5jo
@JA-lx5jo 7 жыл бұрын
I know Milton Keynes has a better service, what I meant was alike Milton Keynes it is alternate to wether or not trains stop there. It may be 1 virgin train per hour sometimes of the day, but there are often at least 2 or 3 fast connections to London per hour from rugby. You can have a look for yourself on the virgin website.
@JA-lx5jo

Paul's Trip Reports Either way, it still has a good connection. Certainly not as good as stations such as Coventry, but a good connection nonetheless
@Paul_Lucas
@Paul_Lucas 7 жыл бұрын
+Instagram Pro The point is the 05/06 upgrade fundamentally changed its nature from a vitally important railway junction to a provincial backwater - I used to work for Virgin and the VHF timetable made Rugby much less well-served. Some people might still think one fast train an hour to London is still a good service - maybe so - but it's a long way from the 90s heyday of the old Rugby.
@SamsVlogstrainsmore
@SamsVlogstrainsmore 7 жыл бұрын
Paul's Trip Reports rugby is my local station and is really good, despite only being one virgin a hour to or from Birmingham and London, it still has 1 direct service to Glasgow Mondays to Saturdays, and around 2-3 on a Sunday, the also have direct services back from Glasgow such as 2 on weekdays and more on weekends, you also get a direct lunchtime service to Chester, with a direct service back from wales once a day on weekdays, you get three direct services a hour to long haul destinations such as one to Preston and Blackpool then two to Liverpool, as well as 1 or two back most days of the week then you get a virgin service to Manchester on weekends and 1 or 2 returning on weekdays, despite Milton Keynes having slightly more virgin services a day they still only have one virgin hour just direct to Birmingham, rugby is a very good station with more than a very few services actually calling there.

+squizza28 You could add more carriages but you would also need to extend platforms at nearly all stations. How would you do this at Euston?
