Vancouver Canada is the largest city in British Columbia and is framed by coastal mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The scenery here is stunning and there are so many beautiful things to see. Me and my daughter explored Vancouver one long weekend and here is what we enjoyed.
The iconic Capilano Suspension Bridge is suspended 230 feet above Capilano Canyon. Originally constructed in 1889, it is the oldest tourist attraction in Vancouver Canada. The Capilano Suspension Bridge is one of the world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridges at 460 feet and shakes and sways as you cross it. The current bridge was constructed in 1956 with steel cables and concrete reinforcements at the end anchors. Also, at the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, you can enjoy the Cliff Walk and the Treetops Adventure.
VanDusen Botanical Garden is a fifty-five acres oasis in the heart of the city of Vancouver. VanDusen Botanical Garden opened in 1975 and has over 7500 different perennial plant species from all over the world. An Elizabethan Hedge Maze made of 3,000 pyramidal cedars is there for you to find your way through and enjoy.
The Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver houses a collection of over 50,000 artifacts, with an emphasis on First Nations and Norwest Coast objects. The Museum of Anthropology was originally established in 1949 and moved to its current location in 1976. In addition to the sizable Northwest Coast collection, it also has works from Asia, Oceania, Artic, Latin America and Europe.
The Sea to Sky Highway skirts along Howe Sound as you travel north out of Vancouver. Also known as highway 99, the Sea to Sky Highway runs from Vancouver to Whistler, passing Squamish which is about halfway between the two. Our highlight on this drive was Shannon Falls, which plummets 1,105 feet and is the third tallest fall in British Columbia. It is a short 5-minute hike to the falls and be sure to check out both the lower and upper viewing platforms.
