Visiting VW Flexpole "off grid" fast charger at ARAL Düsseldorf with KIA EV6

Last week Herbert Diess proudly announced the partnership with BP (in Deutschland: ARAL) to put these "off grid capable" battery powered fast chargers made by Volkswagen "all over Europe".
Well, this first installation has me anything but convinced: within weeks it's been reported by lots of users to not be working and indeed, I didn't get it to work and after me an eBerlingo showed perfectly that these chargers are not very helpful (they can't really charge two of the same type vehicles at the same time thanks to the cabling!)

In the UK we avoid BP pulse like the plague. They either don't work or charge slowly and they are on grid chargers too 😉

From the UK I've not heard any good stories, in Germany usually it's (much) better, ARAL is using quite good hardware usually.

Try to put some pressure on the CCS connector while the charger and car is doing handshake

With cables that short, it wouldn’t even be able to charge 2 ID.4s…

That's one thing I appreciate about the Xpeng cars, they have ports on both sides of the car.

Both ports offering CCS (fast chargin) I doubt that...

@@electricfelix There are ports on both side, saw them with my own eyes at FC Live. But tbh now you made me doubt if both sides support DC.

@@dumpthepump247 Audi e-tron, e-tron GT and Taycan also have charge ports on both sides. But only one of them supports DC.

It should be a pilot/sample product because bp pulse had an event at that location before and the other VW Flexpole chargers have longer cables. Maybe they forgot to shut it down. It is better to check the genuine charger after the formal launch...

Off Grid charger means no mobile connection to verify payment credentials. 😂

Plenty of them nearby Düsseldorf/ Cologne

"off grid" is not correct. It has a connection to the grid, but it can be way smaller than usual for a HPC.

BP Pulse (ARAL in DE) in Germany is one of the biggest growing companies and you can look at my #BerlinChallenge posted yesterday I even trust to use them in a race(!)

It seems that all electric cars should have their outlets where Tesla has theirs and then Tesla should provide all DC fast chargers in the world, but I am in no way saying that all electric cars should be Teslas, but Tesla has the most reliable chargers.
