Thanks for this! I’m already proficient with Ableton’s Analog, Operator and Wavetable synths and I love them to bits but I just want something to experiment with and I was actually eyeing Serum but I’ve heard about this Vital synth and I’m happy I came across this video. Definitely going for Vital than Serum. It’s crazy that it’s free!

i skimmed a bit but and basically he prefers the work flow of the synth and how it looks. i didn't hear him say that one sounds better than the other. at this all these wavetable/FM/subtractive synths do exactly the same things. which delivers the sounds you want?

This Vital is a no brainer, still don't understand how those guys are making a buck but hey, an incredible wavetable synth for free! Surely will support them when I have the chance!

As to monetization, they have paid and subscription packages as well.
@bentrolley43163 жыл бұрын
If you subscribe for $5 a month, that $5 each month gets added to your store account as credit. I'm using it to save up for the pro package, while still getting other subscriber perks in the meantime! Ftr the paid packages are mostly presets and wavetables, etc. If you're a sound designer and/or not too fussed about having loads of presets, the free version is all you need

The good part is that lots of the things you know in Serum can be carried over without much translation to Vital! The biggest difference by far is that Vital has true dual filters (and in an initialized patch, oscillator 2 is routed to filter 2). This is one of the things I missed the most when I moved from Massive to Serum because it can give you all kinds of cool stereo options. The most important thing however is not to learn a particular synth - it's to learn synthesis in general :)

@Engineeer3 жыл бұрын
Vital just got released. Allow the third party sound designers some time. Many do not know about this synth, yet. Then they will actually need some time to make these patches. It's way to early to make any judgement on the availability of patches. Also, most patches are used over and over again and people may get sick hearing them. I see i n these patches more a starting points for my own sound design. In this case, it does not really matter, if there are 400 patches or 10,000 patches.
@ileryon40193 жыл бұрын
@@WTrager What do you mean? Serum is worth the money cause there are more presets available atm?
@WTrager3 жыл бұрын
@@ileryon4019 - I never said that Serum was worth the money. Please show me when I typed out that statement. In fact, I NEVER even implied it. I truly hate it when someone twists someone's words in an effort to demean and hurt that person on a social media platform- I said : "I know that. The point I was trying to make, is that the difference in price accounts for that fact." There is no question that Vital is a great value. At the Pro-level for $80.00, it offers quite a bit more of a value compared to Serum at more than double the price. I was referring to 3rd party presets. The fact is; a well known producer that makes their living at producing for the elite performing artists out there is going to use several subscription services as well as Serum with thousands of sound presets and wavetables available to them, usually via a subscription service. Price for them is no object. Now, for me - Vital is perfect. The Pro-package would definitely work for me, and I can wait until 3rd party developers come on board with Vital wavetables and presets.

I honestly think I like Vital a bit more, maybe not, maybe so, I just need to get better with it. Thanks Aden! *UPDATE* I change my mind. Vital is definitely inferior. After experimenting with both for months now I just think that with Serum you get what you pay for. Vital IS a rip off, and while it's a good one, it doesn't quite match Serum.

@EDMProd3 жыл бұрын
Haha yep the CPU is killer on both
@Engineeer3 жыл бұрын
Why? Do you still use Mountain Lion or a 32 bit OS or have a super weak processor? Both require a current 64 bit Windows or Mac OS. Vital is even available for Linux. Serum still runs under Windows 7 (which you should not use anymore for security reasons). Only thing which might be an issue in some setups is Vital's OpenGL requirement. If you can't run any of these plugins, consider an upgrade of your hardware and/or OS, because there is probably a lot of other stuff, which doesn't run properly. For music production, you don't want a slow PC anyways. I know, it sucks to spend money on a new PC. If it's only the OS and your PC has a 64 bit processor, you of course can switch to Linux. But the software industry is very slow in supporting Linux with their DAWs and VSTs. So, you may have to switch to other software or try to get it running using emulators like Wine. I personally did not dare to switch to Linux for music production, yet.

@@arulk4800 Wow, that's a really old computer. Do you know the detailed CPU, GPU, RM size and Operating System specs? Generally a computer from 2008 is suboptimal for music production with most modern tools. Complex synths like Serum and Vital need a lot of CPU power. There are lighter synths out there, which aren't as powerful, but still make good sounds. You may check out Synth 1.
