There has never been a batsman more sure of his ability. Viv Richards today would SMASH every record available. This man invented the word attack. There is no point comparing him to the batsmen of today.

@Delibes Flair Having an average of 50 is no joke, especially when the pitches and grounds were not batsman-friendly unlike today . And speaking of the bowlers, England and Australia had lethal fast bowlers. There were behemoths like Geoff Thompson, Lillee and many others . Facing them without a helmet, let alone smashing them was not something everyone can pull off

Thomas told him :- It's red, round and it's about five ounces, in case you were wondering." Richards then hammered the next delivery for 6, straight out of the stadium and into a nearby river. Then Viv told him:-: "You know what it looks like, now go and find it."

Manu Das sorry buddy but thats another really stupid comment. Firstly no one here was suggesting Viv was great because he hit sixes. He was great because he could play every shot in the book and dominate an attack from ball 1. He averaged 50+ through the 80's on uncovered wickets, with tiny bats all while playing without a helmet. Also yes i have played cricket, i played at a professional level for a few years until i suffered a back injury. Everyone who has got even the slightest clue knows that Sir Viv was easily as good as lara or Sachin and most likely better.
@BongSau83
@BongSau83 8 жыл бұрын
Manu Das Just out of curiosity how old are you? You realise cricket has been around a bit longer than Tendulkar and Lara yeah? There are a handful of batsmen better than both of them and many comparable. Don Bradman was so much better it's not even worth comparison so we'll leave that one but names like Gavaskar, Sobers and Greg Chappell immediately spring to mind. Also Viv faced Lillee and Thompson in their prime and destroyed them on many occasions so the whole Aktar, Lee debate is mute. His actual technique may not be text book but that is simply irrelevant. If you don't believe me just google "wisden top 10 batsmen" and read what you find.

Sir Viv is definitely the classiest cricket player in this era. I love to watch his swagger going into the wicket. My next best player would be Brian Lara. The bowlers in that sane era was top notch. . these players played for love of the game not to see who can acquire the most wealth.

When growing up my father was forever my sporting hero as he played cricket and I loved watching him play. When he along with my grandfathers introduced me to cricket especially West Indian cricket I was idolise by watching Sir Viv and the rest of the West Indian greats. There will never be another Sir Vivian Richards.

Look at his back lift: Almost nothing and stiil he hits cover drive for sixes!! Ponting, Kohli, Tendulkar, lara have huge backlifts, but still cannot make these cover drive for sixes so effortless as Viv does it!
