I love this movie. A unique story with heart. To save people and be rejected. Not caring anymore when suddenly, someone cares. Being alone, not having a purpose then, being needed, appreciated. Finally remembering a true love then, having to leave them to save them. When you’re down, depressed and lonely and that flips around is emotional enough but throw in your perfect love that you can’t be with.. heartbreaking. 💔

The character growth is more important than the superhero world-building in this one. It's a bit unfortunate that it is flawed enough to detract from the moral. Caring about people is good, abandoning people is not good, lies aren't good, hurting people is also not good, helping is good, taking responsibility is good... I'm sure there's more in there.

The word or term you're looking for to describe how Jason Bateman has been typecast in more recent years, is the "straight man." Not in a sexual orientation way, but in characterization. He's usually the one who can recognize the ridiculous scenario or characters he's around or caught up with. He's usually the guy we are supposed to relate with most of the time. Other times, he can be a fun weirdo, like Dodgeball. He's absolutely fantastic in Dodgeball.

At 26:12, ACTUALLY THEY ARE THERE. You just have to really pay attention. Hancock is a ancient bird god named Quetzolquatle (spelling?) worshiped by the Aztecs, Myans and other ancient civilizations. You can tell, because that's why he paints all the big Falcon like birds on his prison cell walls, as well as ancient pictographs, the language of the time period. Also, Q, famously left his people never to return. Which lines up with the story of them becoming too mortal, so they'd run away. I'm not sure who actress Charlie is playing, but if you look up the ancient Aztec mythological group, there's probably one that fits the bill. Even his hat/expensive glasses, kind of give his eyes that Falcon like appearance, and again, there's a falcon on his hat. Wine was a regular gift people gave to Gods, so the fact that he's a drunk actually makes sense. Basically, he can probably make tornados too. He just doesn't remember how. I'd be really interested if anyone can see what his particular brand of alcohol is, and whether or not there's a connection to his ancient homeland. But the connections are definitely there. Most people just don't look for them.

Quetzalcoatl (Aztec) / Kukulcán (Maya) was a feathered snake, not a bird god. I think you are reaching here with the references. The base for this movie seems to be more a mixture of Olympic and Egypt gods, like Zeus & Hera, Isis & Osiris, etc. Maybe Horus (a falcon god) and Hathor (a sky goddess) would be a good representation for the two. (The mythologies often also didn't make much difference between being siblings and being married …)

Hancock was angry and traumatized hero, who killed tons of people and gave up on life, Charlize's character later died because of him, so he transfered his powers to the son to go back in time and save his mother. But then it was revealed Hancock was actually the son who was stuck in a time loop reliving everything, while trying to save his mother who was fated to die. He probably did the moon thing later on once he was fully recovered. I unironically love this movie. Yeah the 2000's style high contrast look and the over-saturation really dates this movie, plus with the style of hand-held camera and crash zooms... sure. But for the basic story of this movie I kinda like it. I always wished they made a sequel to it. I liked that he had powers but was still a normal guy with problems just like everyone else. He even had major serious problems. I feel like in recent years more superhero stories have gotten a little darker and portrayed them as imperfect, but I still think none do it quite like Hancock. I will admit: the movie has its issues. And it goes completely off the rails in the second half. But I still love it.

Peter Berg directed this. He also directed tv show Friday Night Lights (2006-2011) as well (including the pilot). Had similar visuality.

The bad guy with the hook is played by Eddie Marsan, a British actor. You were trying to figure out if he used a Kentucky accent or what. I think he was just trying to sound not British. He often plays gentle, sweet characters. Try Still Life for a very different Eddie. A very gentle man who tries to find relatives of lonely people who died. Usually he is the sole mourner at their funeral.

He had a weather power, too. It wasn't really explored in the theatrical cut. In the extended versiom, there's a scene where he takes a girl back to his house. As he is getting turned on, the temperature increases and the tins of Jiffy Pop popcorn start popping due to the excessive heat. Also, you either missed (which is easy to do) or totally ignored (don't blame you if you did) whatever the hell the giant robot was in the background of their big downtown fight scene. All of that being said, this is one of my favorite super hero movies. Is it great cinema? Nope. Is it a helluva lot of fun? YUP!

The bank scene really shows the difference in how the destruction of property is treated. Before that scene, Hancock would be blamed and insulted for all the public damage. But because the cops were already being peppered with bullets in the line of duty, any damage Hancock does now is negligible. Using the police car as a shield is destruction of police property, but he was active saving a cop's life and protecting her from more harm; so I don't believe anyone would come at him for that. Also he is correct; that officer WAS very attractive.

First off, I love that bow... It really accents your hair very well! Second I nearly fell out of my chair when you accurately predicted that she knew him so early. I missed the connection till she threw him through the refrigerator (he sneezed), but I did have the exact same reaction that you did when it happened. Conclusion that was a sweet awesome reaction, thank you for reacting to it. Suggestion more Charlize Theron... The Old Guard (2020)

Hancock was one of the first movies that started a post-modern era for super hero movies, along with Kickass. I was a teenager, when it came out, watched in on DVD. And yes, I felt the same kind of weird as you do now. It really struggles to put both light and dark themes together with moral stuff. The mood jumps all around. Well, directors did not have the same experience in that kind of genre, I suppose, It was eight years before the first Deadpool. Still brings back some good memories.

I really like this movie. Really rewatchable even if it kind of falls apart at the end. The villain's motivation is pretty muddled since it almost sounds like he knows about Hancock's origin and what happened to the other supers.

I wished that they had made a sequel to the movie, but it looks like that its not gonna happen anytime soon as superhero movies from Marvel to DC have had highs and lows since 2012, and releasing a HANCOCK 2 in this day and age would either make or break the summer box office.

----- @VKunia ----- - I've always found it rather odd when people say, "(Please!) Don't judge me!". It's always viewed with such a negative connotation. People keep overlooking the fact that compliments are judgements, too. With that said... Being judged unfairly is, of course, the worst kind of judgement. -----

Hancock is underrated and ahead of her time, the same thing happened to Watchmen, it is not perfect but the public of the moment did not want to see alternative stories and antiheroes, they wanted to see Xmen, the antihero phenomenon would arrive with Logan (2017) and with Deadpool (2016) which brought a wave of products such as The Boys and Invincible that represent parody due to the saturation of the genre and that are widely accepted by the public.
