Part 7: • John Salley Agrees wit...
Part 5: • John Salley on Kobe Ra...
Part 1: • John Salley on His Mom...
-------------
In this clip, John Salley spoke about Kobe Bryant's drive to train when he first came to the Lakers. John revealed that he would play Kobe 1-on-1 after games, and he added that Kobe would come from training at Gold's Gym before practice. From there, John spoke about documenting his time with the Lakers, including during the 2000 Finals, which they won against the Indiana Pacers. He then added that he has footage of Shaq carrying an injured Kobe Bryant around on his back, which he plans to release in the future. To hear more, including John saying that Shaq had bad people in his ear convincing him to leave the Lakers, hit the above clip.

Kobe was not a friendly person in the NBA because Kobe came to work not to collect friends. Kobe knew at a young age what he wanted to be and knew what it took to get to that place. I think because of this Kobe was often misunderstood. I am glad that Kobe and Shaq were able to reconcile. I think both wanted the same things, theif way of accomplishing it was just different. Later in their career, they learned to respect and understand one another. I think having children and understanding their differences does that.

Yes, he said that AFTER everyone was saying that Kobe needed Shaq to win, and then Shaq started to say it. Kobe didn't mind playing with Shaq. He did mind Shaq himself suggesting that he carried Kobe. Kobe then went on to win 2 more without him just to prove them wrong. Kobe explicitly stated in an interview that it didn't bother him when other people started saying it. It bothered him when Shaq started saying it. That's when he wanted to prove them wrong.

I've never heard Shaq or Kobe go into detail about what specific problem they had with one another. If you are going to have a public beef with a teammate and make it a situation, then all the media knows about it or speaks about it, then if it's not true, why not just make it clear that you have no problem with that person to them first and then to the public.... Why wouldn't Shaq be specific and Kobe (during that time) just dismissed it because more than likely he knew things were petty and/or beneath his dignity.

Kobe was a higher level than most. He benefitted immeasurably from a childhood rooted in culturally richer and more diverse influences than a vast majority of most people. boss dawg during Bill Russell, Big O, Wilt, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Bob Pettit, Cousy, and those guys era the pace of the game was much faster than it is now and they play all of their games too no sitting out. These new players are soft and they are about their brand Lebron has started this trend with teaming up, no effort on the other end and refusing to participate an events to help push the league forward. Most of these guys in today’s NBA can’t score without a pick and roll, or can’t shoot, or can only shoot off the dribble that’s it no other dimensions to their games like it was from back in the day.

Nah, Kobe has a reputation for dissing teammates to the media, and I saw him do that during his playing days, and in retirement. Before his untimely death, he was still blaming Shaq for him not winning more championships. If I recall, when Kobe married Vanessa, he didn’t invite ANY of his teammates, or family members to his wedding. Shaq admitted he could’ve done some things differently, I’ve never heard Kobe take ownership of anything that led to him and Shaq beefing, and him getting traded to Miami.

It’s eerie how shaq and Kobe should off been invincible for a minimum half decade only too then had such bad beef after being on the same team …… then splitting up and yet just before the end ……they patched it up and was almost forgotten and water under the bridge ……… and how similar it was to the Senna and Prost situation in late 80s leading up to 94 and sennas death in f1.
