In Vlog #2 we briefly check out some in person american history, put together a Field Notes wallet order, and anxiously await some shell cordovan to get delivered.

What kind of sewing machine do you have? Would you recommend it for someone getting started? I enjoy leatherworking but really dislike how long stitching takes lol. I would like to get a sewing machine but not sure what brands/models to get. Do you have any tips for looking for one? Thanks for sharing!

+SimpleCove Thanks for watching! Its a Consew 206RB-5. I would recommend it for sure if you are doing lighter weight stuff like wallets, cases, etc. Whatever you are looking for make sure its a compound walking foot and comes with a servo motor. Might seem weird but you want the slowest motor you can get when working with leather. Its a learnning curve for sure (skills and terminology) but worth it I think. Check out the sewing machines forum on leatherworker.net those guys have the answers for any questions!

hey Justin thanks for the vid. I'd love to know how you make those acrylic templates. I'm using card stock currently

+Spencer Moret Hey Spencer. I design them in Adobe Illustrator and when ready I take it to my local makerspace to use their laser cutter. Thankfully on my the way their is an acrylic shop where I can pick up the material. There is a bit of learning curve to the software but having the solid template is well worth it.

I really like the idea of using plexiglass templates for your pieces. How did you get them?
