Today's vlog: Are you guys still allive? That's a question we often got last weeks... We have been quiet for a long time. We did make some video's but we only shared them with family, friends and our youtube followers we got to know trough responses under the video. (for security reasons)
We're sorry we didn't vlog more from Djibouti, but it's a very sensitive place according to video and we already got serious troubles with it, so we couldn't really help it. Now it was really time to let you know how that we are still alive and how we are doing. Many people were worried about us... thanks for you concernes and for checking on us! Enjoy this last vlog!

This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2,5 years ago. We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. / @sailingshalom . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. We left may 2018 and started vlogging from the beginning, we made 15 minute video's of our adventures, the nature and the many special people we met. We cooperated with OM to visit their projects and film them on our way. Since 19 of March we started with a daily vlog due to the corona situation. We plan to keep doing this the coming months.

Hi and what fantastic coverage. I have been searching on people sailing through the Suez and the Red Sea, and found great info on your videos. I have a dream of buying a sailing boat from Europe and sail around the Med for awhile and then cruising via the Red Sea to Oman (my home), but always had doubt about the route - how safe and friendly it is. Thank you again 👍

Hey Faisal! Thanks for responding 🙂 Wow, great plans! I can highly recommend it! The red sea is so beautiful and great for sailing in that direction. Just a bit challenging with the reefs, but maybe you are used to that.. Do you have coral reefs in Oman?

@@sailingmessenger8125 no unfortunately we don’t have many reefs in Oman, but not much wind either, it will be my first sailing experience since I have been mostly operating motor boats 😀

Alastair and Dawn Thank you so much for bringing light to our lockdown in Scotland. I found your wonderful vlog by chance and have followed you through all of your journey. Something I longed to do myself. Dawn and I have been married for 54 years and have sailed around the West of Scotland for the last 50. We currently sail a Hallberg Rassy 54 sometimes with children and grandchildren, even though our joint ages are 160 years we have no plans for stopping !!

😁👌Glad to hear that! We think that picture of the red sea is what most people have in mind because most sailors that sail there go against the wind and waves beacsue its part of their circumnavigation. And then it's much harder work. (unless you take plenty of time and enjoy the reefs while waiting for good wind windows) and somehow people got the idea that pirates are all trough the red sea, but in fact they are just on a very specific place. No pirates in egyptian and sudanese waters 😁 Hope you will have the chance of enjoying these waters 1 day too!! 😊

@@sailingmessenger8125 I know the feeling - we started a KZfaq channel that was a kids Lockdown Sunday School channel during the covid period but as that faded, continued it as an animated Bible series. They were a bit ropey as we were learning things but are getting there and the views keep coming from all corners of the world so, if God is using it, I’ll keep on improving the animation and putting them out there. Anyway, thanks for your reply and I hope you are both doing well 😊

@@sailingmessenger8125 as I learn more about animation, they take much longer. The last one “Deborah the Judge” took 6 months to make (3 full days per week) and I’ve just started the next one which will be even more animated. So, yes, it does take a lot of time and it will never make money, but that’s not the point of it really. I work part time to pay the bills and the videos are just a way of reaching out with the gospel. Do you have any other projects on the go?

New subscriber here. Looking forward to see more videos from you, whether its at Sea or at Netherlands. I had the opportunity to visit Amsterdam in December 2008, so beautiful. Canal cruise, Anne Franks house, got lost & nearly hit by the tram from Central after unlimited beer from cruise (my bad), but managed to take a transfer/service from Central - Schipol Airport - Hotel... I had a great time touring the City, hoping to visit again. Meeting people in different places for a chat, lunch/dinner, or tour is one of the best thing to do in this world. Take care both of you and stay safe.

Don't get me wrong, the Canary Islands, Bahamas and French Polynesia are off course high/next on the list. Your trip would be nice way to start the adventure. You have no footage of your trip home?

Hi - had really enjoyed your trip along the canal and then down the west side of the Red Sea. Tell me, was it Covid or security that meant you came back? Was there anything else you could have done to improve the security situation? And to think we were concerned when our cruise ship broke down halfway between Yemen and Djibouti...

Hey!! Thanks for letting us know:) no for sure it wasn't security. Djibouti is very safe! Only for filming it's not the easiest place, but safety is really good. There are 7 army bases in that country, so that makes it very stable and the government doesn't want trouble with foreigners I guess. Covid made us come back a little earlier, but we already planned to make an end to our journey, it has been very beautiful but it was time for something new :) Oh I can imagine that's not te best feeling to be on a boat with technical problems in that water...

I am thankful for all the videos and also sorry that the trip is over. The rest, I do not understand.... Was the boat lost or conversated? Or is the winner of the week onboard supposed to sail her home?

haha sorry for being a bit unclear about that. The boat isnt lost, it's still floating and in good hands and its still ours. We will keep it until we know more precicely what our situation will look like. For you as a very faithfull follower we can give some more info. Great!! We will get back to Djibouti in some time, so let us know when you're around! We left our boat with friends there, so we will see in a bit whether we can keep it or need to sell it. Depends on how the plans develop 😊

Hey Paul! There is no plan to stay longterm in the Netherlands, so we wont bring the boat here soon I think. We left it in good hands in a safe place until we have more clarity about if we can keep it or not. Then we will make a plan. Im reading your response from 4 weeks ago now, haha you wished you were where we were, but it wasn't that far away from your place and situation ;)

@@sailingmessenger8125 Well, I'm happy to fly out to wherever from the UK and sail 'Messenger' back for you any time you need it! 😃 We sailed one of our boats built in Taiwan, back from Taiwan to the UK and I've sailed much of the world.... In fact, you saw 'Morning Star' in Greece? I've sailed on her as well...... Keep in touch.....
