Today's vlog: the second leg of the Suez Canal transit. We have some struggles... We show you the marina's, information about the places, the costs and some good inside information to know before you go. Below some more information and explanations.
Quotation in US for Southbound vessels $:
- Canal dues: 330 (this fee is lower for northbound vessels)
- Agent fees: 70
- port clearance 70
- immigration formalities 20
- quarantaine doctor 10
Total 500 US $
Extra costs:
- Marina fee suez 2x 21 $
- Visa's 2x 25$
- camera transport by navy 45 $
- marina fee Ismailia 21$ (when you pay in Egyptian pound here its more)
- Marina fee Suez 21 $
- Formality check suez 35 $ (just for a 3 seconds look at the passport you pay this fee :0 )
Why you shouldn't get a visa in suez channel?
- you can transit the channel without
- you don't need it to anchor in Egyptian waters
- It creates problems when you are in a Egyptian marina later
- it costs more in the end because you will need to pay 30$ later for each month that you had a visa - it's a gov. admin. fee. (sometimes referred to as cruising permit which is not the correct name)
- THE ONLY REASON TO GET A VISA AT THE SUEZ CANAL IS TO BE ABLE TO DO SHOPPING THERE
Anchoring in Egyptian waters
- we anchored 1 month between Suez en port Ghalib without any trouble, only 1 check by coastguard
- we anchored 2 months between port Ghalib and Sudan without visa, no problems either.
- The second period was during corona times, so we can't guarantee that it will be always the same. rules aren't very straight forward here. our advise: just try!
Yess we are doing a GIVEAWAY!!
Win a full week on board of Messenger for 2 persons. check the details in/under DailyVlog 25
In November 2020 we arrived with our sailboat in Haifa, Israel. To save some money we stayed at the same marina for 3 months and traveld trough the country over land. Hiking, hitchhiking, by rental car and public transport. It was a great experience!!
This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. / @sailingshalom . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. We left may 2018 and started vlogging from the beginning, we made 15 minute video's of our adventures, the nature and the many special people we met. We cooperated with OM to visit their projects and film them on our way. Since 19 of March we started with a daily vlog due to the corona situation. We plan to keep doing this the coming months.

Watching your video in the midst of the Suez Crisis/Traffic, hoping it will resolve very soon. Suez Canal (including Panama Canal) topics were discussed during my High School and College years, just want to be educated again on value & importance of this gateway. Plus, this interest me a lot because I was a Seaman who travelled Asia Pacific and Americas for Cruise Lines (not Cargo ships), hoping that one day, after COVID-19, will be able to travel again via Seas and Oceans. Thank you.

We did not give any gifts to random baggers like the pilots in the first video. But we gave a gift to our pilot in the first leg of the canal transit and a gift to the pilot in the second part. Both 20 US dollar in a closed envelope so they could not complain to us and so on. This was the advised tip amount by the agency.

I'm curious about the northward route when things open up a bit more, currently in Australia. Do you know of any good resources to pass the dreaded Somalian coast in a convoy?
@sailingmessenger8125
@sailingmessenger8125 4 жыл бұрын
O wow, long way to go :) northward in suez isn't much different from southward. But the red sea itself is way easier southward, since winds are most of the time blowing from the north. About Somali passing, we did not do that yet, but spoke to many sailors who just passed it and they said it was very quiet and well guarded. Just stay in the middel of the traffic seperation zone and when you like go with abou 3 boats together with some distance between yleach other so you don't form a target with 3 boats together, but you can help each other when needed. But really they all said it felt very protected and safe. Naval boats and even planes were regularly contacting them by radio if everything was OK. So don't worry too much 😊

Everyone in Egypt seemed very nice and trying to help the tourist trade except the government pilots, such a shame, the Felix agents made up for that, if I ever am lucky enough to transit the Red Sea and the Suez Canal I will definitely do business with them

Great video! On the internet you hear and read a lot about pirates outside the canal, any information you could share about that?
@sailingmessenger8125
@sailingmessenger8125 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes we can:) the whole red sea is very safe, apart from the area Somalia. That is almost safe. It has been a long time ago that a sailboat was entered. But one week ago a tanker was attacked by pirates 100 miles south of Socotra. But many sailboats have been passing the last few years without problems. Avoiding sailing close to Somalia is recommended.

@@michaellaferla5455 yes, somehow people think pirates are in the entire red sea. But really there is nothing like that in Egypt, Sudan and so on. It's just a very specific area near Somalia.

Hello i need to know how much does cost thé transit in Suez canal for a sail boat betwen 36 and 38 feet think for thé retour
@sailingmessenger8125
@sailingmessenger8125 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, In the end of this video we tell about the costs. And in the text under the video you can find all the details about the costs. How much a return costs depends on how quick you return. If you return within 6 months, you don't pay the canal dues (that's the fee calculated per gross tonn). And also the trip from south so north is a bit cheaper then Nort to South. So when you go to te descriptiontext under this video you can calculate your costs for return trip roughly. Our boat is the same size as yours, so that's easy. Good luck!
