The real story of the Von Erich’s is FAR more tragic than the film reveals

Yep. It cuts out an entire brother... Who ALSO killed himself.

Nepotism almost always played a part in privately held regional wrestling territories. See also: Guerrero family, Hart family, Verne and Greg Gagne, Eddie and Mike Graham, The Funks, Joe and Tully Blanchard, the Crocketts, Grizzly Smith and his 3 kids (Jake Roberts, Rockin Robin, Sam Houston) the Anoai Clan, and of course the 4 generation McMahon dynasty.

The Iron Claw film was during the era of World Class Championship Wrestling. This was the territory of Fritz Von Erich and his sons. This was the era of Harley Race, Ric Flair, Bruiser Brody, Jerry Lawler, Kamala, Tommy Rich, The Missing Link and The Fabulous Freebirds. Rest in Peace Texas Tornado. The Iron Claw film shows the hardships and tragedies of the Von Erich family. The film needed two more music montages in the first 45 minutes of the movie since the story dragged at the beginning, but it then picked up for the rest of the film. The only acting weak link in the film came from the actor who portrayed Ric Flair who was atrocious in the role. The next pro wrestling family that deserves a film is the Hart family from Canada. After all, Bret Hart has endured emotional heartbreak from losing those closest around him like Brian Pillman, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, Jim Neidhart, his brother Owen Hart and very good friends like Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect. Bret was also screwed out of the World Title, went through a bad divorce and was retired by a bad kick from Bill Goldberg. This is during the era of World Class Championship Wrestling. This is the territory of Fritz Von Erich and his sons. This is the era of Harley Race, Ric Flair, Bruiser Brody, Jerry Lawler, Kamala, The Missing Link and The Fabulous Freebirds. A detail i didn't catch till second viewing was Fritz was scamming his sons of their pay, thinking it was entitled to him. This actually happened when Kevin was cleaning the books for a sale of WCCW in the late 80's near the end where Kerry wins the Intercontinel belt. Damn. What a stand up father.

David Von Erich was the best wrestler out of the brothers and he had potential to be a multiple champion

I was disappointed Chris was not added in the movie. He wasn't like someone or a fictional person whom you can remove and nothing would change. He was the youngest brother and with him removed, you're not getting the full story.

I only knew this story from Dark Side of the Ring (great show for wrestling fans), so maybe I'll check this out.

This was a good movie! I can also recommend it! EDIT: Oh yeah. The guy playing Ric Flair isn't too good at it. Its like if I tried to play Norman Bates-.... Okay. Bad example 😂

Well, being fair, when it comes to wrestler's daughters who continued in the business, Lacey is no Charlotte in the ring, that's for sure. 😉 And yeah, there is certainly a reason this has become known as The Von Erick Curse, so much has happened to that family. Anyways, thank you, Sean.

If it weren't for the Ric Flair cosplayer, The Iron Claw would've been the greatest wrestling film since The Wrestler. Still a great film, though.

When he came up, I was definitely distracted by the hair. I felt like they should have gotten LA Knight instead to play Flair

I'm a wrestling fan too and know the story of the Von Erich's very well. I know Kevin Von Erich has said in numerous interviews that the whole family was against the whole "Lance Von Erich" angle, but Fritz couldn't be dissuaded. I think Kevin kind of knew it was a disaster waiting to happen.

I thought he acted the part okay, but he’s not Ric Flair. Then again, very few people can match the presence and energy of Ric Flair.

A friend brought me to see this movie. I wasnt familiar with wrestling at all. I kind of heard of Flair via some GIFs people have used. I think i mightve heard some behind the bastard eps on Vince Mcmahon. I thought it was a decent tragedy movie as a non wrestling fan. Thank you for mentioning Dark Side of the ring. I kind of would like a more detailed look into that family that i missed from the movie. I still think it was a good movie. A rental rating i think makes sense. 🤔

I thought the actors all did a great job, but I was really underwhelmed by this. I get that it's a true story, but it seems like 90% of the movie is death scene after death scene, followed by a funeral and the family trying to cope with it. Not a whole lot of variety, which to me just made it pretty boring in general. I certainly wouldn't care to watch it again (both from the sadness and the boredom).

Probably had the sane problem "Ed Wood" had - family members who wouldn't sign permission slips. Lugosi was narried when Wood met him. Had a son who loved him. He was remarried after his rehab until his death. But Lugosi Jr hates Ed Wood so no one in the family signed. So nothing about Lugosi in that movie is real.
