interesting watching this series. i picked up my new custom 6.5 creedmoor about a month ago. i shot my 1st match here in the UK (PRSUK) and it was so fricking good. i did pretty good got bang on half way in the leaderboard when turning up on the 1st day of shooting with 35 rounds down the barrel. no speeds or dope. just winging it. managed to get some speeds and dope 1st thing. got a 1st round impact at 1000y which is so satisfying. hearing the ring come back after like 3 seconds is still amazing

I have your same setup except the 24 inch barrel. I was doing loads on it and the velocity with h4350 powder is 100+fps slower than the berger hunting vld 140gr manual said it should be. I learned recently that maybe tikka barrels run slow.

how are the bolt throw and smoothness compare between the two? Also the accuracy? I used to own a Tac A1. Now want to get a Bergara BMP so lots of leftover fund for optics and ammo (hopefully)
@fredgoodrum771
@fredgoodrum771 3 жыл бұрын
@@kramotakra The TIkka is extremely accurate, out of the box. The bolt is smooth and works well. To be fair, I've only about 250 rounds with the Tikka but it has stretched out to 1000 yds with ease. I have a Bushnell XRS II 4.5-30x50 on it and that scope makes the whole unit function to boredom. My only concern is calling wind. The Bergara was placed onto an MPA chassis and I am still working on which ammo runs best. so far I'm getting good groups with 130 gr. S & B, much to many's chagrin. The bolt operates without any concern, or even notice from me. Of the two, my go to is the Tikka for LRP. My hope is to get the Bergara running optimal for mid-range F-Class. I have no doubts that this will happen. One thing, the Tikka comes with a muzzle brake and my shooting see a benefit from that. Wheras, the Bergara, while threaded, will need an additional purchase. I am finding the Bergara's accuracy more challenging with no muzzle device. But that is definitely my ability and not the rifle's. That is something to be tested in the near future.

0420.... must be your birthday?!? Haha.... I bought a Tikka T3 light about 10 years ago for 600$ in 270 WSM. Killed lots of pigs at all ranges. It started collecting dust after I got in .284 calibers but a year ago after staring at it I decided to rebuild that gun. I bought a Proof Research pre-fit barrel chambered in 6.5 PRC and put it in a Carbon Game Warden Mcmillan stock. Initial results were right at 1/2” but then I bedded the stock and now it shoots 1/4” all day long. I have a Leupold VX-6HD 3-18-50 on it (22 Oz). Total weight hunting rig 8.5 lbs. I may or may not have gotten a sweet Vet discount on the barrel and stock. Very affordable build that will old it’s own with any 3-6k$ gun! Still running factory Tikka bottom metal (plastic) and factory trigger.

It is good to remember that factory ammo velocity is not allways correct. There is marketing things happening ( longer barrell etc.) 6.5 cal is good for beginner , but actially it is small caliber for long range shooting ( low energy , wind drift ) I would say max. 700 yards. There is much better cal.over 1000 yards.

Have run a CTR in a German Gun Stock and a TAC A1, both 20" .308, for about 2 years now. Absolutely phenomenal rifles, .5moa with FGMM on the high end of consistency, and would definitely recommend either. I did have to tinker with all 6 of my mags to get them to feed properly, and am not sure if Tikka has fixed that issue yet or not(nothing major just had to bend the release catch a bit). Was worse in the CTR than the TAC for whatever reason. Have only shot an HMR once, in .308, and it is definitely an excellent rifle. What i would say is, the CTR stock is just not even remotely close to the quality of the Bergara stock, but the trigger in the Tikka needs nothing other than a $15 yodave spring to be fantastic(~1.2lb and crisp as anything, other than top tier aftermarket), where the Bergara trigger is imo mediocre. The action and feeding is smoother on the Tikka, but it is exceptional, and the Bergara is still plenty good. Was impressed enough with the Bergara that i just ordered the B14r carbon(.22lr) to try out, if that means much. IMO, the Tikka is the better choice if you are willing to put more money into a proper stock, the Bergara is the better choice if you arent. Unless you are just hunting, then the CTR stock is fine.
