What do you think about the fact this movie and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio both include a bellic (training-like) scenes? Is it made in purpose according to our complicated context or simply an exagerating way to catch the attention of audiences? For me it is totally unnecessary.

I Can see why she say it’s “sexy” because she has seen it in context of “sexy” tiktoks but I definitely didn’t feel Like it’s sexy when I watched it (and have seen this several times). It is SASSY which people in her demographic often equivalence sassy and sexy. Also the move requires a slither type move which could be seen as sexy compared to the rigid footwork they did. Anyways I get what she is saying but it’s a very far reach lol

The problem is that those dance moves that are strongly associated with sexualised music and performed by adults confuse the context. The fact that the atmosphere and feeling of the children isn't clearly communicated when seen out of the context of the entire musical demonstrates a weakness in the directorial choices and choreography. You know a scene is well-executed when it can be viewed by anyone, anywhere, out of context, for the first time, and without understanding the lyrics, and the general story and atmosphere don't lose their clarity. I've been a fan of the book and the original film since I was a child, but seeing this scene for the first time, I never would have guessed that this was a celebratory or emancipatory number. Neither the lyrics, the dance moves, nor the facial expressions hint at that for me - and that has nothing to do with the critique. I rewatched the scene a few times after reading the comments and realising what the context is. It still doesn't translate well for me.
@cinno09
@cinno09 Жыл бұрын
Norty is slang for Naughty, and also plays into the whole spelling theme with the song. "We can SPL (spell) how we like." Saying part of their revolting, is spelling however they want, not listening to the headmaster telling them they're wrong. As for the spelling stuff, they're actually spelling multiple words throughout the whole song. "We'll S-I-N-G, Songs! U-S-I-N-G, Rhymes! We'll Be R-E-V-O-L-T-I-N-G, It is too L-8-4-U (too late for you) We Are-E-Volting" And the adults that jumped in at the end are supposed to represent the older kids at the school. The younger kids started the rebellion, and eventually the whole school joined in, including the older students.

Less we also forget that the event that triggers this revolt, is when Trunchbull has a surprise spelling test. The students start to rebel after Trunchbell tries to send one of them to a choky and they start to stand on their desk and each deliberately misspells easy words. Thus the deliberate misspelling in the song.

The adults are the older kids in the show. They symbolize just how much older and scarier the older kids look to the really little kids going to school for the first time. It's really weird that you saw a dance move as something it's not. It's weird to say red-beret girl made a facial expression that you read something inappropriate into. The reason the kids on stage have 'crazier' faces is because they're performing on a stage and have to project body language, facial expressions, and voices to the back of the house. That's not as necessary on film and reads very odd when someone on film acts like they're on a stage (unfortunately, Ben Platt in the Dear Evan Hansen film comes to mind).

Some lyrics were changed for Americans. Broadway audiences wouldn't be able to cope if their enunciation wasn't clear. There are pros and cons to both. Live signing and dancing is far harder but the film was more accurate with the way children would speak, or in this case sing.

Tim Minchin is a musical genius. You have to hear his works to really be able to capture the magnitude of the song. The opening school song is just a glimpse of his word play. But yeah, the songs in a musical tend to move the story forward, not just a breakaway from plot line like a movie. So you can’t just listen to the songs individually.

Stop calling it sexy and naughty your just looking at wrong areas in the video, plus I get it the musical version takes much longer than Movie-musical version but I don't feel that it's right that your comparing the musical and movie because obviously there is going to be lots of differences but the movie version actually gets overlooked and restricpted most of the time while the musical version is using actual action and physical performances while the movie uses editing and lots of scripting for it. Plus the movie version of Matilda is actually focused on the the main idea of the musical as well the character development, the music is pretty good in my opinion as well choreography but just because the girl rolled her eyes DURING the dance doesn't mean it's a "sexy" or "naughty" move it's called acting the part plus your just sexualising the choreography overall in my opinion and its annoying, please think before you comment, just watch the video and don't talk during it and then when your ready taking notes or like opinions you can talk about.

Naughty in the UK is disobedient. A naughty child is a misbehaving child. Not something dirty that is the meaning it gets in America.

Honestly, the Tony award performance is almost certainly live, this one is on a TV show so it might actually not be. There were 2 kids in the front making naughty moves in the "a little bit naughty" part too 😜, that's the move still in my head when I hear that part, despite having seen the new version a lot. On stage they used adults to play the older kids.

Hi I really love your videos and I wanna say that the big is that you said is that the teachers it’s actually the big students because they come out like at the background and then then it’s like they want more students because there’s only a little bit of chairs so so it’s for like little people and then after they just add more people from the background because there’s like a little sly in the background
