Check out The Travelling Wilburys here: www.travelingwilburys.com
The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. Following Orbison's death in December 1988, the Wilburys released a second album, which they titled Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3, in 1990.
"Handle with Care" is a song by the British-American supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. It was released in October 1988 as their debut single and as the opening track of their album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1. The song was the first recording made by the group, although it was originally intended as a bonus track on a European single by George Harrison.
* "Nelson Wilbury" - George Harrison
* "Otis Wilbury" - Jeff Lynne
* "Lefty Wilbury" - Roy Orbison
* "Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr." - Tom Petty
* "Lucky Wilbury" - Bob Dylan
“Handle with Care" was the Wilburys' most successful single.

Actually George got everybody together because he needed a song to be on the B-side of his latest single. But when people at the record company heard the song they said it's to good to simply be a flipside, it should be it's own hit single. So they decided to do a whole album together. Fortunately for us, the fans, they did.

The conception of the band goes back further than that. In 1986 George hired Jeff to produce his album, Cloud 9, and the two legends immediately became best friends, what with Jeff actually moving into George and Olivia's house. While producing Cloud 9 George proposed to Jeff that they start their own band. Jeff said great, who would you like to be in it with us? George named Bob Dylan, and asked Jeff who he'd want in it. Jeff replied, Roy Orbison. Then they agreed that Tom Petty should join, too.

You got that right it’s sad Roy died, just when he was making a comeback too just think of what they could have produced only 2 of them left now Bob and Jeff, there is one other singer who could have fitted in with them and that would have been Gerry Rafferty sadly he’s gone too.

Three friends George, Jeff and Roy were having dinner. George's own words, Jeff offered to help with the B side, Roy asked if he could tag along, they had to stop by Tom's to pick up a guitar, when they got to Tom's and Tom heard what they were doing, Bob has a studio in his house. Yet, remarkably, they had him sing only ONE song solo while Dylan sings several as the lead. Seems astoundingly daft to have Orbison in your group and hardly hear him doing what he did so famously well.

@@steeltrap3800 Bob was featured on the second album in many songs because Roy had passed. The first album, as far as I have heard, did a good job of balancing who sang the most on each track. But I would always make sure to put Bob and Tom at the bottom of the group when it comes to lead vocals for sure. Their voices are truly not made for leads.

Its raw, or organic, because these guys did this entirely on their own. No corporate stooges, execs, etc. All on their own, purely raw, organic and out of the utmost love, admiration and respect for each other and all they brought to the world of music, and of course, just how much joy & fun the got from each other and the experience as a whole. Its also a direct product of their era, the time when music was ENTIRELY about and based on the genuine talent and abilities of musicians, and not any importance or focus was ever on "performance/showmanship", looks, extra stuff like lighting and stage props, or even how they dressed. None of that stuff mattered back then. But by 1980, the massive shift into showmanship, looks, outfits, etc being emphasize over talent and ability went into full force. By 1990, we wound up almost entirely based on that instead of the stuff that matters, which is again, talent, ability and passion. And that's how we got to where we are now, where everything is quite literally, "Overproduced, Commercialized", as is said in the song at hand. That's why its so rare for so many of us to find any music and musicians we truly like/love and enjoy now. That said, there often is one or two songs from bands or musicians in the modern era that stand out from the rest, and become long-standing favorites. Speaking of such... I recommend doing a reaction and vocal analysis of Seal - A Kiss From a Rose. I think it'd also be kind of interesting to hear a vocal coach/expert do a analysis of Akon's vocals. From say, Lonely, to start, to Hold My Hand, which he did with Michael Jackson shortly before MJ passed.

Love it!! I never get tired of this song! 5 absolute legends, egos checked at the door, making good ole rock 'n' roll! This was not entirely an 'intentional' group. George had wanted some 'friends' to sing backup for a b-side to a single, which was this song. He was already working with Jeff Lynne, who was producing his solo record, and they both mentioned names of whom should joint them. Lynne's 'hero' was Orbison, Harrison really admired Dylan. Harrison & Petty became friends around this time, so he jointed the mix. George's record company thought the song too good to just be a b-side, so they got together at Dave Stewart's house (of the Eurythmics) to write and record. Apparently, Tom Petty was giddy as a schoolboy saying 'We got Roy Orbison in our band!!!' There is a great 1/2 hour video on the formation of the band and the songs. Regarding regions: Orbison was a small-town Texan, so his natural speaking voice was closed-mouth, like the characters in King of the Hill; he learned to sing that way to hit high notes. Petty was from Gainesville FL, a Southern drawl which comes out in his music. Bob Dylan was Minnesotan but his singing voice is mostly an affect. Lynn and Harrison were of course English, not sure how their regional accents impacted their singing voices.

I think these guys together represent what you and other voice coach reactors emphasize: don't try to sound perfect or like someone else. Find your own voice. When their albums came out I had no problem knowing which one was singing from the first words. Just imagine how boing it would have been if they all sounded alike. Today's music, with auto tune etc.... I find it very hard to find singers who don't seem to sound anything other than an over produced product. But when I do I love it.

George's voice sored with confidence he never had before with the Wilburys. This was once Jeff Lynne became his producer and engineer. He knew the EQ and compression to apply to George's voice to really bring it forward. And I think that gave him more confidence to really sing out with verve. It started with George's "Cloud 9" album and went right through all the Wilbury's material. Compared to George's early solo work, it's like he had been reborn.

This was a tremendous reaction, young Lady. Would you please go into more detail about the Swami of Wink, Texas, Roy Orbison. I think he wrote rock operettas, and his voice was from another world. Thank you for your unique take on the greats of music.

I heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago, and thought, "Hey is this a new TomPetty song?" I Shazamed it and got the Traveling Wilburys and was like, "This band sounds just like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers." I then looked up who was in this band and was blown away!

“Here Comes The Sun” And “Something” ( B side of “Come Together “ if you can fathom that after listening, two songs of that caliber..) The Beatles, George Harrison lead vocals on both. Both are stunning

You didn't realize that George Harrison had such a good voice. What? Check out his song "Here Comes The Sun" from The Beatles "Abbey Road" album. Even with the incredible 200 Lennon/McCartney songs, this one by George is the most streamed Beatles song on Spotify with over 700 million plays. The one you want to listen to is from the 2019 50th anniversary remix of "Abbey Road" it sounds incredible and there's a cool video with it and well worth reacting to. Yes these guys were very good friends. Dylan and Harrison went back to 1964. That year when The Beatles were on their first American tour they were in NYC and got word that Dylan wanted too meet them. He went to their hotel and brought a good friend along named marijuana and got the band high for the first time. This may have been the most important and profound meeting in the history of popular music. On Dylan's next album "Bringing It All Back Home" released in 1965 he started to pull away from being a folk singer and had some electric numbers on it and from then on never did folk again. The Beatles became instant major league pot heads the next year in 65 their music did a full 180 degree turn and with the release of their iconic Lp "Rubber Soul" which Lennon called the pot album which is a record that you should check out, its an incredible record and from this record on they were off to the races. Peace

Surprises me how many forget about Jim Keltner on the drums, other than some back up vocals he is the quiet Wilbury brother. One of the greatest Sessional Drummers in the world who has played with many big names, amongst them predominately with the Beetles. Both solo and main group albums. He was often found backing up Ringo on drums, or filling in for Ringo if he couldn't be there for whatever reason. Ringo also did a lot of solo work later in life and dragged Jim around on the drums to help out.

Great recognition of Orbison as related to the Elvisy sort of space. Both recorded for Sun Records under producer Sam Phillips back in the 1950s out of Memphis.

Loved this one Beth, loved the TWs, and its one enormous musical jamming session, and l think it’s that hotch-potch vocal sounds that makes them work. And yes, l think they must have had an absolute ball. So so sad there’s only two of them left.

That was why The Beatles were as great as they were; they had the most multitalented musicians, singers and composers. Never equalled, never surpassed.
