Enjoyed your appraisal. With the amount of touring he's done from the start of his career to now, nearly 40 years, I'm surprised he has got any vocal ability left! Noticed he is unable to reach the high notes of songs like LOAP but so what, he is still an amazing talent in both vocal performance and songwriting. I really enjoyed this performance, played to his strengths.

I completely agree with you. Jon has always done his best for us fans. His concerts have always been up to 2.5 or 3 hours which is rare for his peers, And it took its toll on his voice. But he is still an amazing singer! He deserves all the respect.

I appreciate you taking the time to review his performance. I've been looking for a vocal coach to react to his current vocal state. Within the past several years his vocal condition has declined drastically. If you watch videos from the band in 2010, through 2013 and into 2015/2016, you can see how drastic the decline was. Only recently (in my opinion) has his vocal condition started to improve. This performance was one of the first in recent years that, I think, was enjoyable to listen to. What do you think would cause such a drastic vocal decline? Keep in mind, his career long right hand man Richie Sambora departed the band in 2013, and right around then was when the vocals stayed declining. Do you think depression had a part in it?

I always thought he started to smoke again in 2013 to cope with the shit show that his life became in April of that year, and months later Tico getting emergency surgery did not help. He said that 2014 was awful and that he had a really bad time, he was depressed for sure and I believe that was one of the many reasons why his voice is the way it is rn. But the thing is, he always had problems, he fucked his vocal chords pretty bad on the SWW Tour and of course after that he still sang really good but for me that was the start...

@@cqleonardo Wow, I hadn't even thought of that. That's an interesting theory that he started smoking once Richie left, and I could see it. Depression and stress can really fuck with you too. I'd imagine that he also felt like that he needed to prove himself with THINFS record and tour, and the idea that maybe people wouldn't like them anymore. Just another thing that your theory made me think of.

Why are people blaming his age? He's only 59. Look at Billy Joel, Michael Jagger, Elton John, Steven Tyler are far older and they've still got it. Jon over used his voice and didn't have the healthiest techniques to preserve his voice. He's sounds like an old Grandpa trying to belt out this song and I LOVE Jon, but he looks like he's really struggling to get through this song.
