I've been wanting to talk about Kobold Press' take on Void Magic in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition for a while on my channel, but I never found exactly how I wanted to explain this dangerously wicked form of spell casting With this video it is my mission is to get you at least as interested in it as me, and maybe have you casting void magic spells with your next D&D wizard. Midgard has some really nice and obvious connections to Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Mi-go, Cthulhu and his Star Spawns, The Goat in The Woods, Deep Ones, Nighthaunts, Ghasts and The Plateau of Leng to name a few. Add to that some Conaneaque elements like the Serpentfolk and Hyperborea. Void Speech is basically Aklo, a very old maddening language taught to Serpentfolk by eldritch entities like Cthulhu in the shared Cthulhu and Hyborian universe. For me, Void Magic is Nyarlathotep using mortals as a feather to slightly disturb the Dreaming Sleep (a.k.a reality) of Azatoth while making the lives of mortals a living hell because he's a jerk and the material world is his playground. He won't take it too far because awakening Azatoth would mean his end as well, but he'll find a lot of joy into seeing how Void spellcasters ruin their lives and of those that interact with them. He's the kind of guy that would give players The Necronomicon to watch the world burn only to lead them in a situation where they attract the ire of The Hounds of Tindalos and are hunted and ultimate caught, thus erased from history and existence. Sandy Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos 5e synergises really well with that part of the setting.

Great video an explanations of void magic. I am a big fan of void magic and the concept of the void in Midgard but it is a complex subject. This was a great breakdown. I have been super focused on Midgard's lay magic lately as the wizard in my upcoming game is going to be using it and its such a fun style of magic.

I would like to see a part 2 but only because I didn't listen to the first one since I was busy trying to figure out how to introduce this into my homebrew campaign and wreck my player's day. They need to feel helpless at every point in the game.

I was able to make a character based on the Void and Void magic and it is so fun, but also so deadly to the character. Because a lot of spells have a chance to make them insane also as a repercussion. Really makes some campaigns wild and confusing.

I’d personally make a character who casts mostly normal spells, but has a few void options for when shit hits the fan. I think a devination wizard could work well with that.

Im surprised you didnt talk about the Void Domain for Clerics its pretty interesting. Void Magic is my favorite category of magic by far.

So Void Magic is essentially the building blocks of the universe. Basically the magic equivalent of messing with atoms.

It sounds like Void Magic harnesses that literal nothingness. It's powered through the exact opposite of creation itself. It came from nothing and wants to return to nothing. Is this an accurate description?

So it is essentially another take on the Far Realm but magic corresponding to it is too dangerous to practically explore and develop where other magics can do the same stuff anyway. Sounds like a raw deal to me.
