23:04 “The most of a sphere you can see at once with your own eyes is just… half!” At long distances, yes I agree, but what if I’m looking at a pea-sized object from six inches away? Because I have two eyes separated by 2.5 inches, it seems I’d be able to see more than 50% of its surface since I’m effectively looking at it from two different places, no?

@that1dudem The caption at 37 seconds in flashed by so quickly I didn't notice. I had thought caprtions were some kind of translation of voice to text thing so wasn't altered but now know is just another thing like caller ID that can be manipulated to provide whatever info someone wants. Although now that I type this I do recall seeing some paraphrasing going on with captions. On the other hand several of the apps I use have had the spellchecker, which is a great help, function removed so you get what I type. What about KZfaq transcripts I suppose I can't rely on them being accurate either? [edited to disable the 37 seconds link that got created]

"The principle of yin and yang, opposites existing in harmony, is associated with ancient Chinese philosophy. But the very first use of the iconography, the classic symbol actually comes from a shield pattern used by the ancient Romans, 700 years before it's first known use in China. A connection between the two has yet to be found. Regardless of who came up with it first, the symbol was a bright idea. BUT WHAT'S THE BRIGHTEST OBJECT IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE?" -Michael

One of my favorite things to teach is the scale of the solar system (and other big or small systems). Basketball is the Sun, make models of all the planets and get class to line up outside. That is often the only thing they will remember. Looking a numbers on paper or pictures or videos just doesn't do it the same way.

Another Awesome video. But our bumpiest place is neither the Marianas trench nor Everest. It’s Mauna Kea Volcano rising 13,796 feet (4,205 meters) above sea level while extending about 19,700 feet (6,000 meters) below sea level in Hawaii to meet the deep ocean floor. So equal to but not flatter than a pancake.

This easily outlines a vastly superior form of education and informative content, in which the goal is to explore random questions that arise from the natural curiosity among students. The teacher says something. Students ask questions. The teacher picks a question. The teacher guides the students in research. Students ask new questions throughout this whole process. Repeat. At the end of the week (or semester), the students write a simple summary on (or create a project summarizing) everything they explored. This feels exactly like what the Vsauce office does, where the end projects are these masterpieces of videos.

If Earth were an apple, the Sun would be about 9.3 meters in size and about 1 km away. The Moon would be about 2.3 cm in size and about 2.6 meters away. And the nearest star Proxima Centauri? It would be about 1.4 meters in size and about 267860 km away. That’s nearly where the Moon is right now! And anything larger than that is still incomprehensibly huge… The galaxy, the local group, superclusters… All still too big to be worth talking about here.

To flat earthers: If people on the flat disk are able to stand on it, not because of gravity but just because there is something below them/their feet, preventing them from not falling into the abyss... what is stopping the earth itself from falling down (into the abyss)?? Fun fact, easy to visually estimate that the circle drawn at 4:18 is about three times the size it would need to be to be accurate. Just visually, it's easy to estimate that you would fit about six of those circles to cover the entire 50%-ish of the earth that you can see from this view - this is easier if you mentally divide the earth into three broad horizontal bands (making a thinner one at the equator to account for how much more area it has). If you mentally look at the area of each, each of the bands - two fat ones at the latitudes, and one thin one at the equator - would be each easily covered by the area of two of those circles. So a total of about six circles to cover the 50% of the earth we see, thus about 12 for the total. He had just said that they could only see about 3% of the earth from the station, which is about 33 "circles" to cover the whole earth (100/3). So since 12 is about 1/3 of 33, the circle he drew here is about three times too large. Not even really nitpicking, just playing along with the theme of the video and recognizing how hard it is to represent things accurately, which makes me feel a little compassion for all the lies we were endlessly presented with in school.

Oh, why the sudden change to flat earth conspiracy? We were talking about how confusing it is to listen to him. Seems like you're just trying to get our attention. Well, let me kill some time: First things first, here's something you can do yourself. Go to a beach at a sunset. Crouch and watch the sun go down the horizon. When the sun is completely hidden, no part of the circle visible, jump up. Tell me how the sun pops back up? According to your idea that Earth is a flat circle, this doesn't make sense. How can moving up show the sun again after it disappears? You can't chalk it up to image manipulation, this can be done with your own eyes. You base your evidence on anecdotal evidence, so this should be acceptable evidence. That leads me to the sun setting. How can the sunset? It can't set in the South because that would mean the entire earth would be in darkness after the sunset. The proposed theory is that the earth is a ball above the earth orbiting. Here's another experiment you can do. A light should be above your head. Imagine if it's the sun. Better yet, use a streetlight. Now go as far as possible from it until it goes near the ground. You can't. How would the sun appear to move down if it's always above you? That also leads to day and night. The sun is a ball of gas. That'll mean all areas of the Earth would get light. We are able to see stars, even though they are billions of lightyears away. Yet they shine just as bright. The light that travels in a vacuum doesn't get dimmer, that only happens in an atmosphere. They can go on forever. Also, where's YOUR proof? I haven't seen a single image of Antarctica where there's a fall off point. You want me to believe that in all of human history, there isn't one single picture of the edge? 29 July 1958 was NASA's creation date and 24 October 1945 was United Nation's. "The first landing on the Antarctic mainland was according to the American Captain John Davis, a sealer, who claimed to have set foot there on 7 February 1821," to quote Wikipedia. It was more than a hundred years before the big companies wanted to "hide" it. The first camera was in 1888! Image manipulation didn't exist when it came along that year and a few more years! China had begun to fly tourist to Antarctica so I would like to see a Flat Earther travel to it. There's no excuse! Even if they were chosen specifically because they were sheeple, they would still see it! www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-42388788 Go fly there yourself and prove to your comrades that it is flat. You are really desperate for it to be true, why not just go to the edge? Oo, it's 11:43 PM. I have one last point. You said research yourself that the Earth is stationary and flat. I'm focusing on stationary. If so, explain the Coriolis force. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_force#Coriolis_effects_in_other_areas Here are examples of it happening. And on Earth, that is the cause of many things. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_force#Meteorology If you have an explanation to why water spin Clockwise in the North and Anti- in the South, tell me. The Coriolis force explains it perfectly. Try to explain it yourself, with your own math. I assume you, at the minimum, reached high school so you can probably do your own math. I like to see you debunk the four points I brought up.

He probably writes his scripts like a murder mystery. Start at the end, then work backwards so that at the beginning everything seems unrelated. At least I hope that's what's going on.

I watched this video first when I was in second grade. Sometime last year during my maths exam, there was a question asking “how much of the earth could you see from the moon”. Thanks to some of the content of this video, I was able to solve the problem.

I started watching this and was reminded of the whole earth is smoother than a cue ball thing. Googled it while listening to vsauce. At the end of the article they recommended the reader to watch this exact Vsauce video that I was already watching. For a second I thought I found the rip in space-time.

Love the ton of fun facts that come with Vsauce videos. Actually, having two eyes, you can see more than 50 percent of the surface of a ball that is smaller than the distance of your eyes (like a table tennis ball). In fact you can see most of it when you go a close as you can. If you don't mind your eyes being crossed and painfully out of focus :D
