Heyyy, Thomas. It's your friend Cher, here. You should really know... when it comes to VW repair videos yours really are the best. ESPECIALLY, since you began explaining each step. Much better than just watching you work. 😉 I mean it. They're gr8. And. Here I am fixing the issues on my moms 01 bug again. You should also know you've probably saved her thousands because you make these videos. Your the go-to when it comes to repair and I'm genuinely appreciative for that. Thanks, man. 10:45 in the video is what I tuned in for and Thank you , Thank you, Thank you for showing this! I know why people have problems with releasing the wiring connection, this may be because I was replacing the window regulator and leaving the lock actuator bolted into the door and the release is not easy to reach and i did not want to undo the locks. Everything on the door carrier looks like the Jetta. I can see by changing the bolts on the carrier to Torx bolts can make them strip a lot easier. They should have left the bolts as hex heads as they did in the past. I guess it's all about saving money. Nice video Thomas...

Thank you a lot for this video. I just did this job on my '01 this afternoon and this was the perfect how-to. I have the Bentley and Haynes manuals but there's nothing like watching someone do it. One thing I ran into on my car was that the little plastic bracket you point out at 13:35 was missing entirely, and the holes in the regulator carrier for it were taped over. I guess it's not structural, it's just there as an assembly aid so that you can manipulate the latch and the regulator carrier as one piece?
@EXOVCDS

Yes... some people don't bother with installing / attaching the bracket. I like to keep things the way they were. Thank you for your input and thank you for watching!

It is best to order parts according to vehicle identification number. If a parts store can not cross reference the VIN, then phone the dealer and have them give you the correct part number of the part you need. I would only install genuine dealer actuators.

I have a 2013 beetle and I notice my passenger side door tries to lock every time I start to drive after a red light, or if I had to slow down for a speed bump when I speed up the lock clicks again, would the same part need to be replaced?
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 3 жыл бұрын
Yes... it's not locking / staying locked for whatever reason (most likely due to something inside the latch). An alternate option would be to disable "auto lock once moving"... with a scan tool.
@HooAskedYou
@HooAskedYou 9 ай бұрын
Why did you change out the door lock? My passenger side window is not dropping when I open the door from the inside. It drops perfectly when I unlock the door with the key fob. Once the door is closed, the window does not go back up immediately - there is a 15 second delay. Think a door latch replacement would fix this?
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 9 ай бұрын
Yes... micro switch in the latch doesn't send a door open signal. When using the fob, the fob acts like a door open signal. Replace the latch and all will be fine again.

Thanks for this expert video. Looking at your video, I made myself a check list when, what to do, which tool needed. One thing I believe I missed, why was the procedure with the windows, open the clamps, release the actual glass? Oh, the answer comes right to my head, because this procedure is, to get off the regulator panel. Well, that's different on my car, I have a convertible, where the sliding tracks are not at the back of the regulator panel but in the door. Great video Thomas, do you have more of Beetle videos, because my Beetle is at 215000 miles now and everything is still working great. Just the lock for now...
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 7 жыл бұрын
Hi... I don't have a video of a newer beetle regulator set-up. If it is similar to the A5/mk5 then access is made by removing the outer door panel. I'll be uploading a video (of a Jetta) later today, that might be of use to you. If you go to my video page and enter beetle in the search field, all my beetle (old & new) will come up. A lot of the A4/mk4 videos will / may still apply to your car as well. so search for VW A4 to see those videos. Thank you for watching!

Hi It's me again, just to tell, with your video and my to do list, I replaced the actuator in less than 90 min. 2 things I'd like to mention, first if you replace the actuator on a Beetle Convertible (mine is 2005) you have absolutely nothing to do with the window. Before removing plugs at the panel, just drive up the window into closed position and that's it. Second dear Thomas, that plug removal from the actuator (shown at 10:50) that isn't easy at all. Mine did not come off, I had to break out of the old actuator and then I was able to remove the plug with all kind of different tools. So you don't have to wonder anymore, because I think after 150000 miles that plug is cold welded to the actuator. First thing I noticed after all work was done, the sound, how the door is closing. It's not the door of a tank anymore, it closes like a Rolls Royce. Easy, smooth and almost no noises. And everything works fine again. Thanks again Thomas, your video was my motivation and my success.

Thank you for the update and the additional input... the "connectors" can get stuck with age. The same style of connector is used on all sensors in the engine bay. @@EXOVCDS hi.... thanks for reading my question. What happens is this. Yesterday I change the fuse box (the one that is on top of the battery) cause it was damaged so I went and bought a new one. The old fuse box made the car crazy so with the new one my car starts but the problem here is that if i turn off the car and (I get out of the car) i lock the doors with the remote key when I go back and try to start the car it wont. Is like if the battery was dead and everything blinks so what i do is lock the doors manually and not set the alarm with the remote key. It makes a weir sound under the steering wheel. Is there like a control module under the steering wheel? Cause as long as i dont use the remote key to set the alarm and lock the doors the car will start the next time i drive it.
@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 4 жыл бұрын
You need to do a "full system scan" of all the control modules in the vehicle (a regular OBD scan tool will not be able to do this). It could be a problem with the driver door module. If the alarm module thinks that the door has not been opened (even though it has been) it will not allow starter activation. Usually what happens is that the alarm activates when the key is turned to start... in your case, I'm not 100% sure what the issue is and that's why I suggest starting with a full system scan (there might be some fault codes stored in some modules that can help track down the issue).

@EXOVCDS
@EXOVCDS 7 жыл бұрын
$150 doesn't even cover the part (here in Canada)... over the phone quotes / estimates are estimates, since you don't know what you run into once the car is in the shop. I think someone made a mistake with the estimate (didn't know how involved the work would be.

Thank you for watching! Yes, solder joints, dirty micro switches, broken microswitches etc. are the common issues. Anything could be repaired... if brake pads could be relined, I'm sure people would reline them. Whatever is easier / more cost effective from someone... that''s why shops replace the unit. Fixing solder joints to only have a micro switch fail 6 month later, makes no sense. We replace the whole unit so that we can provide a warranty on the whole part.
@EXOVCDS

Repairing & selling old units would probably generate more money than I'm currently getting off of my youtube channel... but then I would not be able to help as many people as I currently am (I don't have time to do both). Let me know how your repair works out and if it was cost / time effective. For most DIY people it is and if one has the tools & know-how... I definitely would recommend doing it. Some people take on more than they can chew and in the end will pay more money & lose more time than a quick swap would have taken.

Can you write me the but of your tutorial? I just bought a 2004 New Beetle, and I'll put it back in perfect condition, so I'm looking for a lot of helpers.

I assume the process is very similar for a A4 Golf, err another to do I was hoping to avoid but your video inspired me haha. I am opting for the cheap Chinese knock off as this car is my winter beater. I will see how it goes, I am sure if will get the winter out of it! www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01MTUAOQ7/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2Q9QV5O9PEDSN

Yes, very similar... here's an older video (noisy & strong watermark). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f6eWgcZimdfNe4E.html Let me know how long the knock-off lasts or if there are any weird issues with it.

Now is also the best time to delete those nasty useless door lock plungers that only pinch your arm skin when you get up to speed and the doors autolock
