This video shows you how to replace the lock actuator so that you don’t need to purchase an entire latch assembly in your 1998-2010 Volkswagen Beetle. Power door lock systems typically use some sort of actuated motor to drive the lock mechanism. If the actuator breaks, then the door lock will no longer operate electronically.

Thank you for your detailed video. I followed it and adapted where needed for replacing the door actuator on a beetle cabriolet (Which was actually a little easier than this). Much appreciated

Is the lock bracket at 9:05 an optional bracket? I got my car used, the driver's door had seen some repairs - it doesn't have this bracket but it does have a place for it. Maybe it's primarily for factory installation?

For those wanting to avoid installing this whole actuator and then finding out you didn't put the spring loaded door handle LEVER in correctly (which means you have to remove the whole sub frame AGAIN to remedy 😢) i would suggest also watching Humble Mechanic's breakdown of vw lock actuators and pay attention to his overview of how the thing works and ESPECIALLY why you need to properly set/preload that door handle lever with that wire spring Zoom to 2:11 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNedpNF8m7u8po0.html Understand what you need to do before installing the new actuator and you'll save yourself summer frustration. I know because i followed the sparse service manual that addressed this very thing but was missing some vital piece in the procedure which vw failed to put in the manual (either that, or my actuator is already broken in a way that makes operation of that spring and level combo not work).

This video sucks it doesn't show anything about how you're supposed to attach the inside parts of the door latch. He just pops them on and there you go. That's not the case you have to hook up a bunch of different components inside the door handle when you're putting the handle on and the lock on.
