Ok if it's a 2.0tdi then vacuum and tandem pump are 1, 03G145209D part no , £200, $300 oem bosch part. Catch it early and it wont be a big bill Look for 1: smoke on start up 2: dirty black fuel filter 3: you can check tandem pump very easily(seals leak with time and return oil into fuel tank) 4: on changing pump, flush fuel system , new fuel filter and your good

Damn dude that thing you were pointing at was the vacuum pump. The HPFP is close to the fuel filter driven on the cambelt.

thank you very much bro👍👍 I drive a 2011 VW Sportwagen TDI and it happened to me this morning, the car just shut off and would not start back so I had it towed to the local VW dealer and after their diagnoses they found it was the high pressure fuel pump, yes you were right they wanted $8K to replace it and they said i had no warranty left, so did exactly as you said I told them I would report VW to the NTSB, then right right after they told me that they would call me back and to my surprise they are now covering it 100%!! 👍

@@zydecbro good that they will cover that . I’m waiting an answer from Vw costumer care. and yeah good point with your fuel filer I would replace it in between 10-40k miles depending on kind of diesel you use. at beggining I didint know about importance of diesel quality I had to change it every 10k mile/with oil change but once I started using additives without hesitation I would go 40k on filter and replaced it only as a precaution measure

This happened to me! 2013 Passat TDI dead stop at 70MPH. Tow to dealer HPFP failure w/metal shavings throughout. Under extended warranty but need to send a fuel sample to VW of America in Michigan. They ran a Specific Gravity Test and told me I failed. Had it towed to a second dealer I trust, in my neighborhood, and asked for a fuel sample to have independently tested. Second dealer said I failed the Specific Gravity Test and gave me a picture of a guy holding a Petro Dector, and said I failed that test as well. The meter had a fronzy face on it??? Ya, Fronzy means you fail. I sent a sample of my fuel to FOI Labs in Vancouver and it came back as 100% pure B10 diesel. They test for water, gas and bio blend additives. PROBLEM: As I learn more, (Ethan M. of the TDI Club) the problem is that my car was designed to run on ULSD Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel B # 2. The best I can find in my State of Illinois is Bio #10. Some pumps are as high as Bio # 20. I'm wondering if I should even fix this car. In hind sight I should have sold it back last year when I had the chance to return under the Emission Scandal program.

If you put new injectors they have to be programed.Only If you change them.In Europe there is VCDS a software mare By Ross tech.The high pressure fuel pump is near diesel filter recipient,under the plastic motor cover,on the left side as you look in front of the car.And yes,it makes metal shavings as he says.Even here in Europe.Put some good filters,clean it well,regulated,and If you have any doubt clean the tank too and the fuel pipes ,injectors too.they can be refurbished.

I had hpfp failure, replaced with a new unit, new in tank pump, new injectors, coded, and my car still doesn't start, no warning codes, the revs reach 300 when cranking, but fuel pressure is only at 8 bar
@RxMich Жыл бұрын
Replace the rail pressure sender and the rail pressure regulator. If those are clogged with microscopic metal particles it thinks the pressure is too high and opens the fuel bypass back to the tank. You will never reach a high enough pressure (2,000 psi) to spray the diesel through the injectors. The pressure sensor also has to be reset in the car's software via VCDS or it still doesn't work. You can buy both for $132.00 or buy the entire fuel rail assembly for much more. Make sure you wash out the fuel rail too. I am presently working through this on my 2009 TDI Jetta. Purchased a rebuilt HPFP from Bosch for $350 (same length warranty from Bosch as a new unit $1,600.00). Replaced fuel tank pump and sender, fuel filter, rail pressure sender + regulator, and blew out the lines. Last step is to replace injectors ONLY if needed. Car was running fine at 75mph when it suddenly died but smooth to the stop. 254,000 miles on fuel system. Loosing fuel pressure would do that more than 1 or 2 injectors clogged....it would have ran like crap until it died. Rebuilt injectors are ~$100 each. You can verify it is the HPFP with ease. Open the pressure regulator on the pump itself (top of the pump). It only requires removing two small torx screws. If there are metal chard in the pump under the regulator it is toast. The problem with the HPFP design is that the part driven by the timing belt is like a cam lobe. It comes across the pump rod pushing it forward to pump fuel. The circular shaft it is in is a smooth bore and the pump can wander up to 90 degrees away from the correct position allowing the pump to rub through the cam lobe rapidly. It could all be fixed with a key slot to prevent it from rotating out of position but that would cost 3 cents more to do.... but then they couldn't charge $9,000.00 for the repair. There is also an alternate HPFP that can be used (modified) CP3 in place of the CP4. the CP3 also does not have to line up perfectly with top dead center since the CP3 has 3 lobes and the CP4 has only one.
