Out of the few videos out there to do this job... This is by far the best and most clearly visible and descriptive. Thanks man.

quick tip: you can put the caps from the new filter on the old one after disconnecting the fuel lines to avoid annoying gas spillage.

Great Idea and very simple! ALSO_I like to take a photo with my cell phone of anything I'm about to change BEFORE I do anything, so I can refer to it later...

Thank you for clearly showing how to clip the fuel lines I watched a couple of other videos and they literally just cry the lines off of the fuel filter with a pry bar. Yikes. Thanks again.

great video, good info....i've been meaning to do mine...and just was too lazy to find out on my own car were the fuel filter is...so i googled it and found this video... kinda funny...my mk5 2.5l jetta is also laser blue best ways to release fuel system pressure is to remove fuel pump relay/fuse and letting the car run until it dies...oryou can also unplug the fuel pump(if you can access the connector) and let it run until the car dies...you may get an engine light...just clear it after you're done or you can leave the car sit for a few hours...and let pressure bleed off normally(pressure will bleed off normally when the car sits...just let it run it's course...i'd suggest let the car sit for ~4hrs or so) either way like OP said int he video fuel some WILL drip out anyway...but won't squirt/spray out if you release fuel ssytem pressure ps: fyi...removing the fuel cap is not going to release any pressure on the fuel system...it'll just release pressure in the fuel tank...which #1 is already vented thru the cap to a certain extent, and #2 release fuel vapors(which is why the cap only vents to a certain extent....to keep fuel vapor emissions low and make the car "greener")

Hey man, Thanks for this video. It proved useful. I have to say - It was much easier for me to just squeeze the release button on the fuel line couplers with my fingers than a screw driver. Especially given the tighter space I had to work with.

To keep the old filter from leaking on the ground, take the plugs from the new filter and immediately put them on the connection you took off.

Good video, but the manual strongly recommends that the fuel system on the 2.5 be bled afterwards to prevent cat converter damage. Sounds like sound advice.

I just brought my Beetle in to get the fuel filter replaced and they broke the strap that holds it tight now it’s just kinda hanging there. I told them how the lines come off and to be careful not to break them. I brought the oem filter and asked if they could replace because I didn’t want to get gas all over me. It was weird at the end of the job he explained they couldn’t warranty their work cause I brought the filter. Now I know why

Note that some manual, like the Bentley) recommend that any time the fuel system has been opened (e.g. when fuel filter is replaced), the fuel system requires bleeding because otherwise the catalytic converter can be damaged.
@4everlakers2410 жыл бұрын
yo man you should have a plastic shield covering all that wiring and filter housing thats why everything was rusted to shit lol also you were right if you pull the plug for the fuel system you get a lot less fuel then lat the filter would be almost empty. but hey your car your rules

one question: does this car need take off the fuel fuse first?
@MeticulousTechTV6 жыл бұрын
I'm reading through these comments wondering the same thing!
@jordanbard23075 жыл бұрын
You can take the fuel fuse out first to relieve the gas line pressure. To do this remove the fuse, crank the car one time (it will not start), doing this relieve the fuel pressure. It's just an extra step to take so excess fuel doesn't get everywhere.

my screw on the clip is completely coroded, nothing even close to a phillips head anymore. any advice?
@NerdAndANoob8 жыл бұрын
If you cannot free the rust. your best bet is to drill out the old screw and replace it. You could try any solvent that destroys rust as well before destroying the screw.
@markguid36047 жыл бұрын
I replaced the screw with a stainless steel screw from ACE Hardware. Total cost: $.75.

Would a bad filter cause rpms to jump up and down in idle?
@scirockalot8v6 жыл бұрын
Nomadic Alpine yes it can. It can cause the fuel flow to be restricted. Also check for vacuum leaks. That will cause a bumpy idle or miss.

@tonytrilex25555 жыл бұрын
50 to 60k miles probably best to do it with a transmission fluid change and yes please change the fluid lifetime fluid is a lie and repairing a failing transmission can be thousands of dollars.
