VW MK6 Jetta Sportwagen TDI Service (Oil, Filters and More)

My daughter and I are spending the day on the family wagon! We'll show you how to change the oil and air filter, check fluids, fix a broken rear seat air vent, reset your oil light (service indicator reset), and then give the car a good wash with a foam cannon! Our car is a 2014 ‪@volkswagen_usa‬ Jetta Sportwagen 2.0L TDI, but this process is very similar on most MK6 and MK7 TSI and TDI cars.

You're a good egg, Jason. I don't own a VW and I don't have a broken air vent, but I always pick up something new from your videos. I think I need to pick up one of those foam cannons... And I love to see you engaging your girls with this stuff. I often lack the patience to bring my 7 year old into my projects, but patience is a work in progress. I've always wanted to change my own oil but didn't have the ramps or pans or anything. Now it seems all I need is an oil extractor, a filter, new oil and a 32mm socket? Gonna try that with my MKV GLI!! Thanks!

Stock VW filter. I've always been told you just replace it when it's visibly dirty. I've lived places I needed to change the filter every oil change (gravel roads, etc), but I don't usually do it that often.

I’ve since sold the car, but it was great. I’d recommend the B6 Bilstein shocks and struts and tow springs in the back. I didn’t do it on the JSW but I did use the Bilsteins on my GTI.

Great video.. curious about where you acquired the washer concentrate I also find that is the best washer solvent and I’m currently out of it in my TDI.. I can’t seem to find it online?

Yeah it’s really hard to find. I used to buy it online but I can’t find it either. In case you’re in WA, the dealership in Kirkland sells it! I go stock up on it once a year. :-)

hi jason..I'm using jetta 1.4tsi 2017..sometimes we go camping with it..I was wondering what is an advantage of a car with no roof rails?..how you fix the roof racks?..need to screw it?

I’d suggest the type of rack that secures into your door jams. Great video! You're lucky that your little one hangs in there with you because when I tried to do these types of things with my son he would always disappear after a few minutes. BTW: how do you like the VW TDI?

She took multiple breaks but yeah I was very glad she was into the project. I love the TDI. We've had it for over a year. One of the diesel-gate cars that was sold with a factory warranty and very low miles after the cheating software was removed. Surprisingly fast, fun to drive, fits tons of stuff. I would get another one for sure.

Also FYI.. depending on your car you may need to go under the car to remove the oil filter. On my recent VW cars you don’t have too.

Good point! All the weird dash lights go away after driving a block. Both my MK6 and MK7 GTI do that.

They are Watkins Glen VW wheels. They were on MK6 GTI’s. I love how they look too.

They're from a MK6 GTI. Often called Watkins Glen or Laguna wheels. They're my personal favorite. :-)

Definitely. It’s super easy the traditional way as well.

Do you add any additives to the diesel gas during winter on these cars? I've had trouble a few times not starting during some cold nights but then no problem the next night.

They're often called watkins glen I believe. 18" VW OEM wheels from MK6 GTIs.

@@JasonExplainsThings I’ll have to check them out, thanks. On a side note, have you ever had your sunroof drains cleaned? I’ve read that it’s a good idea to have them cleaned (and drained) to prevent any potential leaks with the pano sunroof.

I miss my TDI Wagon. Could not pass up what Volkswagen was willing to buy it back from me for. They literally offered me double its book. Mine was an '09 with the sunroof and nav, dark blue with the gray interior.

Yeah we bought ours when they started selling them as certified pre-owned. Best deal on a car ever. Also you now can’t buy them for as cheap as we got with a warranty. I sometimes wish we got 2 of them.
