Best detailed video I found for this fix on the newer models. My 13 Sportwagen TDI straight up pissed on my clutch foot this morning.

Thank for watching! There are also drains for the back of the sunroof inside of the rear wheel well covers that are more difficult to get to if you still have issues. Send water down the rear or park on a slope to see if those drain.

This seems fairly straightforward and easy - however before attempting to tackle this, I must wonder - what is the intended purpose of that rubber tip you cut at the end of the drain line? Surely it doesn’t exist only to cause problems - so what good *should* it be doing? And, what potential problems might cutting it create? Thanks so much for your video and your time!

its suppose to be a filter to let only water out and not let spiders and other bugs into the tube and cabin

Wish I’d just watched this before wasting a bunch of time on other methods. Reached a wire cutter in there and snipped them both-whoosh goes the water

Hello. Do you have experience with a missing (dislocated) drain pipe on the driver side in the front of the car. Its not coming out of the body of car, but I can feel it if I stick my finger to the hole (please dont get me wrong :D ). Thats why all the water from the roof is getting to the cabin underneath the carpet by the pedals. Thx for the coments.
@Waveshank Жыл бұрын
Oh no that's the worst case scenario. I think you would need a special set of long needle nose pliers. Maybe you could use wires or coat hangers to moved the hoses around to get them to reattach.

Hey I’m getting water leaking on the drivers side!! Like a lot of water when it rains any ideas?
@Waveshank2 жыл бұрын
Do the water bottle test in the sunroof tray like I did in the video to see if the tip of the drain lines are clogged. The water should drain out of the tray right away. Could be something else like door seals, etc.

I have an '08 Rabbit/Golf with a similar issue. Are these built the same way here? Would this solution work on this car?
@Waveshank Жыл бұрын
I am not sure. You would have to find out where the drain lines are in your model.

If I pour water into the little screens on the moon roof the water instantly runs down the pillar on the passenger side?
@Waveshank2 жыл бұрын
It needs to be poured into the inner channel that's meant to hold water until it drains.
@MD-sc1jk3 жыл бұрын
how about the rear one..! I was able to locate the drain for the rear left side, I can't find the rear drain for the rear right side. I already took wheel and liner twice and I can't see it. all I see is tubes that go to the Gas tank.
@Waveshank3 жыл бұрын
I need to do the rear also. I saw that it drips from inside the liner so you got further than me. The drain has to be in there somewhere. Let me know if tou find out. Thanks for watching.

So what did you do about the part that was leaking inside the A-pillar?
@Waveshank4 жыл бұрын
I realized it was only leaking there because it was clogged below it. Once it flows freely there was no leak. Hope that helps. I should have explained that. Thanks for watching.

@@Waveshank - Could you not have run some wire (or string trimmer) line from that point and clear it out without having to take off all that under the hood?

what about the rear ones? i on a seat leon ST Style wit a glass roof and it leaks from the rear drainage tubes.
@Waveshank2 жыл бұрын
When i tested the upper channel with water the tray did drain from inside the rear wheel wells. So I knew the front drains were clogged. I should have put that in the video. Are the rear tips clogged? I assume you have to get behind the wheel well covers.
@hamitcankibar24042 жыл бұрын

My a4 Audi omfg the drain under hood would clog and it was a fan waterfall into my floors. They suck at drainage designs in bmw,Audi and vw
@Waveshank3 жыл бұрын
Yeah 100% and it's been through decades of designs with the same problems. Including melting interior parts that end up smelling like crayons. Maybe the materials they use are fine in Germany but not in other climates like here in US (especially FL).
@The_Stark_Contrast3 жыл бұрын
So that's why my 01 VR6 smelled like crayons?!
@usahd77453 жыл бұрын
@@The_Stark_Contrast Yes, at least on BMW they got the iconic crayon smell from the plastics and insulation melting/aging.

Second time I've had this problem. Will never again consider buying a car with a sunroof top. Honestly, I believe the way the drain line, which ends up flooding the car's interior is simply stupid by the designers...VW, of all brands?
@Waveshank2 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. I don't even use it that much, though it is nice to have in FL. Drainage system needs a full redesign and it should be much more easily serviceable. But design things to last past the warranty? Who would do that! 🤣 Thanks for watching.
