I love the placement of the tympani front and center. The balance is perfect and the tympani speaks very clearly. This was a real crowd-pleasing performance. Thank you Bremer!

Actually, the quote was from a more often played Mozart work, the Turkish March from the last movement of Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K. 219

Sorry, aber die Pauke ist viel zu laut/dominant! Sorry, but the timpani is way too loud/dominant!

Where the timpani plays is supposed to be its "solo". It is supposed to be imitating "trumpets and drums" which is the context in which it would normally play. I can still hear the harpsichord cutting through fine. He is using hard sticks with tiny ball ends; you can't get much more clarity than that.

That's OK because this is a piece for poor man's orchestra. It's lacking oboes, horns, bassoons and trumpets compared to what would be expected so timpani is basically trying to compensate for the whole wind section.

I agree. Even if it is compensating for a lack of wind section. It’s like a bull in a China shop lol
