Watching in January 2021! Dr. Deming's philosophy was assigned as a part of my MBA Excellence in Operations class. After the first two videos, this was a refreshing look into Dr. Deming's refreshing charisma. Instead of a boring lecture, Dr. Deming provided a light-hearted demonstration that likely had more benefit than many weeks in a lecture class. Thanks for sharing these gems Murphicus!

Strange that most American management still doesn't understand what Deming was teaching. Thanks for posting. Every time I watch this, I learn something new.

Everything Dr. Deming warned would happen if American management didn't change their ways, is now coming true. He was a true genius whose real contribution has yet to be felt. Much of the so-called 'Quality Revolution' in the 80's and 90's were people selling quick-fixes to a managers eager to show that they were 'doing something' on the Quality front. (cont'd)

Only a few companies really made inroads (Ford Motor and Florida Power and Light among them.) Unfortunately, when the management changed, bad habits returned. Deming's message is as relevant today as ever. The urgency of his message has increased dramatically.

You are welcome - and thanks to everyone who is watching. I think that it is an American sickness that he keeps being ignored. Perhaps it can be condensed down to short-term/I win-you loose thinking. Huge cash-fed egos of the CEOs & greed based investors.

The reason that most of the West ignores Deming is that it's all a pissing game for those promoted to the top. Being a good "manager" is the last thing on their minds. They take risks with others money (and jobs) to try and make the big mark. Those who reach the top never need to look the masses of those who suffer their folly in the eye. Most are so geared to short term profits that they have a wild imagination to believe that they are contributing to the value of their community.

incredible man, now apply this principle to all business, big and small along with a relationship economy and a social value wage payment system and youve got yourself a perfect economy based on the sole target of self and human progress and improvement, rather than the continued and corrupt target of maximising financial profit... Just got the politics to solve now... :-)

The problem is that maximizing profits became the only measure of economic developement. While earning more than having spent is a good thing, it´s getting bad when it doesn´t matter if profits are made at the expense of the customers, the employees, the environment, the community or even the future of the company. Currently this attitude is spilling over to Germany. One reason the Deming´s findings are so important today is because the diseases and obstacles are still prevalent.

@PrinceNoctisCaelum This isn't a bunch of lies. There are few complex problems that have simple answers. What Deming says is true. What you are saying is also true in that it is the attitude of the CEOs trickling down to management and in my opinion most of America. An I win / you loose attitude that is selfish and self serving. If our country had a more holistic attitude of teamwork and cooperation, we'd all be better off!

It's a shame American manufacturers, especially auto companies, took their customer base for granted; thought they could get by sitting on their butts while stuffing their bank accounts instead of working to continually improve the product.

The Salon website just ran an article entitled "Meat inspector: “We are no longer in charge of safety”", and my readings into Peter Drucker and Mr. Deming led me here in search of the NBC white paper, If Japan could.....why can't we? If any of you have any hints you want to throw my way, feel free to drop me a line. This is a subject, especially in view of the dangers of a food supply hostage to a focus on costs, rather than quality, we all need to promulgate. Spread the word, please.

The usable land of Japan is 6% of the land space. California has the same land area as Japan. Japan has the second biggest economy in the world. Explain that.
