Having trouble playing chords, doing the "Island Strum" and singing at the same time? You aren't alone. This tutorial takes you through in small baby steps to help you master singing and strumming. Like a workout video, this workshop has a ton of play along time for each of these baby steps.

Awesome, thank you! I have a video on singing and playing at the same time. I know folks that spent a year to get to that point, but with my live classes, I can get most folks up and singing on several songs at the end of 6 weeks. There's a process. Thanks for sharing your journey with me.

This is by far the best instruction on singing and strumming. I am finally managing to sing and strum for the first time in a year. Okay, so I fall apart a bit with the verses, but right now my strumming arm is broken from patting myself on the back. Thank you so much, Lisa.

When you just show chords, I have no idea where or which to play, before 5:11 in your video. I understand completely now that. It makes so much sense. Breaking it down really made it easy for me. Thank you.😊👌

I hear you. Do you play in a jam group? Playing with others is fun and it is a great way to practice the singing and strumming. I host a beginners jam 2x a month for my patrons. Because it is on Zoom, no one gets to hear your mistakes!

That's a great song and one I regularly do when I am a performer. I do a lot of single downstrums with the verses. I'll be doing a house concert and posting it on KZfaq this month. I'll do Sweet Caroline at the end.

ohhh really hard to keep the beat and not get mixed up with the down ups but with practice.... I'm so used to the ordinary strum it's hard to change but with practice......

Take it little bit at a time. Repeat sections. Strumming a pattern and singing at the same time takes days, weeks even months of practice. Keep at it every day and you will be able to accomplish a pattern.

I'm all good with the island strum until I start trying to sing at the same time! This may take awhile.

Good observation - it does take time, and consistent practice. Just do a little bit every day. Try humming first - the processing center for vocabulary is in a different part of the brain.
