Walking Fort Wayne's Nicest Area : The Landing & Promenade Park (June 2021)

The Landing used to be a canal that was situated along Columbia Street, but now is home to many shops, restaurants, and residences. I then visit Promenade Park, a new city park which features water fountains, a historic wrought iron truss bridge, a playground, great views of the St. Mary's River, public restrooms, and a restaurant.

It is always fun to follow along with you wherever you go and whatever you do.( treadmill) The comments when you were walking on the treadmill were 🤣 I can see why this is your favorite part of Fort Wayne. I know people miss mostly live streams (me included), but I've also always enjoyed these pre-recorded videos where you can post your google maps walking path before the video so the viewer can get a bearing. Even if in this case it's not New York, and a place I have no idea about.

5:50 Yes, that used to be an Amtrak stop. Fort Wayne lost passenger train service in 1990. Maybe someday they'll get train service again.

I dont think Amtrak used that station. They did use the Baker Street station on the south end of downtown though.

That was the Wells St Bridge, which was actually a bridge for automobiles, believe it or not. The bridge to the west was built to replace it. It always made me nervous when my mom drove over it when another car was coming. lol VERY narrow! I fished off of and below that bridge many times as a kid. We played on the river in winter when it froze over. Just past the bridge to the left was a large salt mine depository (where we would play). The train ran from right to left maybe 50 yards beyond the bridge. If you see that flag pole in the distance there, just past it is where we lived for several years. There was a street called Fairmount Ave with houses and we lived along Wells just down from the corner. There was a Volunteers of America directly across from that brick building. Let’s just say it was a rough area. There were a few shops across the street in that brick building including a laundromat. Across the parking lot of that building, just catty-corner from us was Richard’s Bakery (which later became the original location of Big Apple Pizza) where we used to get freshly made donuts around 9 or 10 at night from the kitchen. lol 🤗

What a lovely lovely video. I am entranced with the Linda Howard sculpture (wondering if, by title's name there's homage to Jackson Pollock?), the wrought iron bridge, the playground and the Harrison Street Bridge.... and wonder deeply what it'd be like to eat at the Chinese (?) restaurant or sip tea at the café along the border of those firstly shown places. Thank you so much Actionkid for your artistically profound work (that treadmill piece from last night stands very high in my mental catalogue of your creations!!!!😊)! 🌱🏆

Hey kid, my hometown! Does that sculpture remind you of occulis? Same designer ! My son worked to help develope this park. Also you should check out the 3 rivers festival in July. Used to be so much fun. I now reside in Orlando, but miss a lot of the cooler things of Fort Wayne.

The train station for Amtrak which was used prior to 1976 is on Baker Street downtown. The station is now office space for attorneys I believe!!
