I made these custom wall mounts for my bikes using old frames and some pretty terrible discarded wood. Since some people seem to be upset by this: THE FRAMES WERE TRASHED and nothing special to begin with.

I saw this thumbnail and TOTALLY thought this guy was mounting bikes like you would big-game kills! To my surprise, I was delighted and disappointed after learning what he was actually doing. Great work nonetheless. Could you imagine though? "and this vintage Schwinn I took down with my Ford Escort way back in '92."

I love it when I learn something from watching a video. That trick with the long strips of cloth and rubbing compound is pure awesome.
@PhilVandelay6 жыл бұрын
That's funny because I didn't even realize I was using a trick until you told me ;) Sometimes it's tiny things you pick up from other people that can be so useful.
@talesfromtheworkbench27886 жыл бұрын
Handlebars are small enough diameter that something like a buffing pad on a sander won't work, and using a Dremel with a buffing wheel would be an exercise in futility and frustration. I'd have resigned myself to doing it with a rag and finger working in tiny circles until my hands were cramping and I'd be wondering why I'd ever started. I did something similar on a Manitou 3 suspension fork about 20 years ago after stripping all the crappy graphics off the aluminum fork legs with Easy-Off oven cleaner. Polished the legs to a nice shine with DuPont No. 7 rubbing compound *without* your cloth strip trick and man was I tired of that process by the time I was done!

I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. kzfaq.infoUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...

Just wondering are you cutting the frame square off the crossbar?
@PhilVandelay6 жыл бұрын
I cut it so that the angle stays the same as if the bike was standing on the ground. So if it's a horizontal top tube then it's square, yes. With the other one I just eyeballed the angle so it's about the same position when it's on the wall.

As far as I understand from Google translate you're mad that I destroyed the frames. Just wanted to mention that they were toast anyway, weren't anything special to begin with and old steel frames are a dime a dozen here in Europe. I picked one of them up from the side of the road where it had been abandoned, stripped and was rusting away. So yeah...
@salvopap82326 жыл бұрын
Phil Vandelay hello phil I wanted to tell you that old bicycles must be restored. and industrial frames like those of the 2000s have to be thrown away. however I can not convince you otherwise one day you will understand
