I havent seen Olympia since I left Minnesota. Neal retired and a new guy has taken it over. They are farming it out to a local machine shop. The price is way up there compared to when you bought it but everything is up FJB! I would have liked a video showing your group differences. I am thinking a bullet, reprofiled at between .950 to .960 over all length, depending on type of action, is the optimal length which will make your bullet accuracy consistent.

They stopped making oly, again, 2 or 3 years ago, my whole community was distraught. I found an original recipe from someone claimed to be decendant of the original brewers in Tumwater, and make a 5gal batch now and then, to please the neighbors and wash down oysters. As for the groups, yep, I should make a video of that. My 10/22 saw the best group reduction of about 30% before and after which whatever bulk I was running. Been so long now though, I have new ammo to test anyway.

@@cmasailor Have you tried these reprofiled in a bolt action? Also, did you have any problem with the 10/22 running them if you had them bigger, like what you were miking in this video? 140 something I believe? Not cycling, hanging up, what have you.

@mlone7 .128inch ran the best in my 10/22, 130thou was the fattest I could go without a hang up so I dropped it a hair more to ensure reliability... and make me feel better about it. Much larger than 140thou would deform on the loading ramp of my bolt guns and be less accurate, but I couldn't get all ammo much larger than that reliably either due to the different alloys from brand to brand. And when you try to force some to have a large meplat, you end up seating the bullet deeper, so there's a real trial and error from brand to brand as to what each Alloy and brand will take...

@@cmasailor I havent been measuring so far. I have been reprofiling from where the bullet just touches the tip of the round and then I turn it 1/2 turn and go up in 1/2 turns all the way to 2.5 turns. 2.5 is fat and will run through my bolt guns but a semi auto....I dont think so. After I see which adjustment is more accurate, I will sort by weight. I can see a difference in my readings on the chrono and the tightness of the groups. I think 2.5 is pushing it too much so that will be my max for trying it.

@mlone7 great! sounds like you're figuring your own way out, just know that results can vary a lot from ammo mfg to ammo mfg and even case lot# within the same brand. I had a couple of batches of the same brand cheaper stuff that was harder than the first, and couldn't be swaged much without also messing up the crimp and seat. Guess I should do another video some day

Brother, Isn't it .224? Do you like the Lee hand press? Best Regards and Keep Safe!

Thanks for your reply, I don't think it's against any law to send metal thought the mail, but if you feel uneasy about it that's fine, great video, regards Jim.

If you don't reload otherwise, what is a good / cheap loading tool/press to use with the Waltz die?
@englishrupe01 Жыл бұрын
The cheapest pretty decent one is the Lee Challenger press. If you have more money, go for the Lee Classic Cast press. But almost any used single stage press will work fine, too, if you can find a used one locally.
