The fact that he casually walked back to his seat and sat down like he owned the place without ZERO ramifications is the most unsettling part. He wasn't even asked by security to come out and talk. NOTHING.

This is the part that's still rattling me more than the slap itself. The way he casually walked towards Chris and back to his seat. And there are clips of him laughing after the slap. It's the entitlement. He knows he is a huge star, which he is, and he felt he was untouchable.

He did, backstage. That public apology was for people who wanted to know if he would. He has a meltdown and acted on his emotion of seeing his wife upset...especially after watching her go through this ordeal over time. He obviously wasn't thinking, and does deserve consequences for his actions. The happy go lucky guy that everyone loves, makes one big mistake and everyone is ready to crucify him and make him the worst human in history for it. Chris shouldn't have come for Jada knowing her situation, and Will should have waited for a commercial break to pull Chris to the side and tell him he was out of pocket for that. He knew he was wrong and it was up to Chris to have him arrested or thrown out. He took the high road and should be commended for that. Some times comedians should know when to push the envelope and when not to break the seal. That was a very tacky and tasteless thing of making fun of her condition on national tv for a laugh. Half the audience didn't like it either. Had Will not responded like that we would have been talking about the tacky joke Chris made instead. I truly hope that over time, both men can get past this with some healing and communication. People were not condoning what he did when they gave him an ovation. They were celebrating the subject of the win and the other people associated with it. They saw a man have a public breakdown and maybe their mixed emotions made them feel like they understood why, he may have snapped, but to try and shame them for not crucifying him on stage is no better. Now, it seems everybody else who screams "VIOLENCE ISN'T THE ANSWER AND HE SHOULD BE SHUNNED AND CRUCIFIED" seem ok with having revenge in their eyes with their pitch forks.

He's not well . I think his behaviour after the slap, even his speech was indicative of serious mental health problems. I'm not blaming her, but she expressed displeasure at a fairly benign joke, and he seems to have found the need to demonstrate, what, his manliness? The way he yelled "keep my wife's name out of your f.... mouth", in front of a global audience, what was that but some unhinged and possibly compensatory expression of proprietorial masculinity? Will Smith is an emotional child. He needs help

It didn't happen. The executive producer had thought about it, and asked Chris Rock. Even the LAPD had asked both the association of the Oscars and the executive producer. Because Chris Rock is the kind of person who gladly would pay credit where credit is due. He's a much better person than most people in freaking Hollywood give him credit for! It had been up to the executive producer NOT to get them involved. Instead Will Smith got banned for ten years. (Nine years,now.) You can blame Hollywood for that. The top execs couldn't be happier. Do you honestly think that THEY had cared about what happened to either one of them? No. All they care about is their statuses of their own careers. Where they'll go from there,and where they'll be icons for many,many years to come. Why NOBODY'S hardly talking about Will Smith's wife,Jada Pinkitt-Smith, we'll never know. Do you think that it's the end of Will Smith's career? No. It'd certainly would change things on his perspective from now on. Of how he sets himself straight,and within nine years, we'll all wonder what kind of person he will be. I seriously think that in time, Chris Rock will eventually forgive him. They WERE best friends. Chris Rock is the kind of person who will gladly pay up credit,where credit is due. Chris Rock is the kind of a better person than anyone could give him credit for. Does Hollywood actually care? Hell,,no. Hollywood's not the place for people with average, ordinary,and medicore talent. No average Joe or Jane could ever understand what exactly goes on in Hollywood. It's anything but easy. It's not for the faint of heart. It's more than just smoke and mirrors. CGI and move props. Illusions and having stuntmen and stuntwomen. Knowing their lines and having a strong dialogue. Because in Hollywood, it's not enough to be the best in just about anything. No. The top execs in just about anything anyone could think of already know how virtually impossible it is to be better than good. IT'S NEVER ENOUGH! they'd practically scream in their ears each and every day of their professional careers. Hollywood is more than just some entity that's doesn't really exist. It's more than just being good at a LOT of things. ALL. THE. TIME!!!! From an intellectual standpoint, it's a bloodthirsty cutthroat business!!! 😮😮😮😮

@earlyriser4033 2 жыл бұрын
There is no choice he was a criminal at that point. I’m sure if he hit your child you would be ok with him staying and getting an award. Also you would support the people that cheered for the person that assaulted your child as they got an award. You have no “choice” when you commit a criminal act. I’m sure your strange comment also supports if someone shoots 3 people and they “choose” to run that the police should just let them get away. Wow really.
@mel752
@mel752 2 жыл бұрын
@@earlyriser4033 You are correct. However, the "choice" of actions to pursue in the mitigation of an evolving crisis rested with those in authority at the venue. I assume that they considered a number of variables in the process. Continuing threat, safety of patrons, desires of the offended, minimizing further disruption to the show and other de-escalation measures were high among considered "next steps" I am certain. Removal under force was also an option. However, the producer and academy leadership on site in the eye of the storm "elected" to relinquish some of decision-making to Will through his publicist. They elected to "ask", not "demand" him to leave. This appeared to be a negotiation. Given an option, Will and his team made the choice that best suited him and damage control. If you are ever pulled over for a traffic violation, perhaps you can negotiate the consequences of your actions. Good luck!

I felt so bad for Chris. He seems like a genuinely good person. The way Will just changed his demeanor in a split second and did that just shows what a whipped toolbag he is. And that self glorifying/self righteous speech he was allowed to stand there and make after still being able to collect an oscar made that event even more sickening. On top of that he gets a standing ovation? Hollywood is filled with a bunch of phony cowards who because they play pretend in movies they think they are some elevated woke being. Will Smith should be brought up on charges and never be allowed to attend any of these shows again. I hope his career is finished.

What we're not gonna do is blame Chris the victim!! Jada was not going to be satisfied until she destroyed Will mind, body, soul and CAREER! The yelling, the assault and then the entire academy clapping is the most outrageous act of violence I have ever seen. This is so perverse, so damaging that I have no words. The youth shooting the youth is not a youth problem. It's a society problem. Here, we have a " idol" clearly violating the law, and getting standing ovation 😱. How are you going to " explain" to the teens at school that this was not for " real"??/ How is this not immediately attended, will smith escorted out, and security involved. Not only was will smith not sorry, he then yelled and insulted the poor Chris with horrible anger and rage. How is this OK??? You realize that this is how youth gets educated.

They're a bunch of creeps. It's not super surprising they would applaud violence. I think it was the 2017 Golden globes but you can find the clip.
