Just had to let you know how much I enjoy your vids.I do adjust everything you say to my age and fitness level. I'm 65 yr old female...thats right..65 and I walk 3 miles Mon-Fri, resting Sat-Sun. You have inspired me to add another activity, like swimming, to my routine. Keep up the good work! This Senior is cheering for you! Your never too old to be the best version of yourself.

Good video, thank you! Picked up some interesting ideas on this one. I am using my gym training to help my fitness/mobility when playing badminton, and I'm using badminton to help my resilience and quicker explosive movements at the gym! Badminton is not a tough sport like the ones you mentioned, but the principles you mention definitely still apply I think :)

Finally, someone that talks about tendons, ligament + mobility. I love ur videos as they are holistic; integrating both mindset and taking mental energy into consideration. I was thinking about athletism when i came across this video of urs. I was a gym bro few years back n now getting back in shape. 1 thing i noticed from training in the gym last time was the absence of these key things. Kudos! Ur point on the importance of replenishing during weight plateau also helps me very much. I hit it recently after 2 weeks on restricting my diet. So on that day i enjoy the food that i used to love to replenish my mental energy and my body cravings. Now im back to the game again and have lose some weight 😄I’m an Asian too and you’re an inspiration to me 💪🏻🔥

This is really good advice. I appreciate the wholistic approach. For better or for worse a lot of the fitness industry focuses on how to build as much muscle as possible, but there are facets of fitness outside of bodybuilding. I think this more general approach is better for most people and the trend of being a “hybrid athlete” is a turn for the better.
@sillybobby5189
@sillybobby5189 21 күн бұрын
Doing hybrid training is fine and great if you enjoy it, but I don't think there's anything wrong with doing weight training for strength of hypertrophy alone. Most of the skills (namely, strength and balance) are domain specific: while practicing split squats may be better for cycling than a barbell back-squat squat, it certainly doesn't map better on to the demands of a high-jump athlete. While hybrid training is great and having varied athletic interests can be good for you, this video gives the impression of looking down upon people interested in just weight training alone. If you enjoy weight training routines, do that; if you enjoy hybrid training, do that. One form of training isn't inherently better than the other for everyone, its all about the individual's specific training goals.

This video is for hybrid training alone so your points are invalid as he didn't say anything negative about weight lifting.
@sillybobby5189
@sillybobby5189 21 күн бұрын
@@randomvidz8742 I agree, I shouldn't have said weightlifting generally, I just thought that weight training the type of training he was criticizing when he used the term "typical gym bro" (0:20 0:26 0:44 1:20 2:30), but I may be wrong on that. I think my other point is that he prescribes a lot of 'rules' for hybrid training; however, i don't think there is a one size fits all hybrid training routine. One's hybrid training should be optimize for the combination of activities they hope to improve in. Speaking to his point on the split squat (3:22) and other unilateral exercises, unilateral movements don't always translate better to other sports, it only translates to other sports that emphasize unilateral movements. Someone who wants to train for a sport which does not emphasize unilateral movements (e.g. the high jump) should not use unilateral training.

"...who has swapped his personality for protein shake" 🤣🤣 amazing video as always Wanhee. You save the best advice for the last, very important to rest and take it easy. Not only taking breaks, but also doing deload weeks helps, once every few weeks when you are still training, but not doing as much volume or going all in. Those weeks can also be used to work exclusively on mobility and stability as well.

Hey I’m just watched your skinny fat to chiseled video, I’ve been working out for about a year and have put on 40 pounds, almost all muscle, but have put on fat too, to the point where I’ve almost developed small love handles and I can barely see my abs. I’m still not muscular enough to look big with a shirt on. Do I cut for a few weeks to get rid of the fat, or do I bulk until I have significantly more muscle?

I think this is more an all around athletic type weight training/tactical barbell, etc more than hybrid athlete. At least in terms of the current usage. Hybrid athlete (which I think is a gimmicky term) currently refers to people who train for heavy lifts + endurance. These are usually opposites in terms of training regiments (strength training vs cardio). It could be people trying to deadlift 450 while running a sub 3 marathon, etc.

The messages in the video are great but you make a few assumptions and lean into gymbro stereotypes. Maybe just maybe some people want to gym to build muscle. Sounds and looks like your a low intermediate lifter who got stuck. Not everyone who goes gym are “stiff and immobile”. You can talk about dynamic movements as better and gym bro fixed movements are bad! But you know the goal of bodybuilding is building muscle right? Why would someone who wants to primarily build muscle actively train in ways where coordination and cardio endurance is a major factor over the muscle your trying to target. If you try to do everything good you’ll do nothing great

An athletic build is the most attractive body type. Period. Muscular is not attractive and the only ones that do find it attractive are the ones lifting. If it makes you feel good and *you* like it, that’s all that matters. I have no interest in being muscular. I’ll take an athletic body any day of the week. To each their own.
