One of the biggest issues in the coming election will be the economy. So how has President Biden done on that front? We talk to Catherine Rampell about Bidenomics and how the President should tout his economic record. His opponent, Donald Trump could be a disaster for the economy if his previous term is any indication. Catherine discusses what a second Trump term could look like and the difficulty even Republicans have with working with him.

Inflation is a nasty booger. When they say inflation is coming down, some people think that means lower prices. That's not what it means ! Except for things like intrest rates on loans , it means the prices now are here to stay, there just not going up as fast. Alot if stuff is owned and produced by big giant companies with almost complete monopoly, food producers chief among them, driving prices higher. In the pandemic, greed took over.

Georgia passed a draconian anti-immigrant bill (HB 87) in 2011. Labor shortages caused massive losses for farmers as migrant workers avoided the state. Fortunately, the appeals court blocked most of it in 2013. Unfortunately, Georgia just passed HB 1105 that doubles down on immigrants.

Because the GOP can't win by popular vote, they don't have the numbers, so it is only by gerrymandering, the electoral college, and voter suppression that they stay in power, so they have to grab onto any opportunity they have to slow the change in election results. Trump is popular in his strategic electorate.

A 10% tariff would increase prices more than 10%. It would increase the cost to the middleman by 10%. Sellers in a 'free market' calculate profit by a factor of their own cost. So for example if a company operates on a 30% profit margin, a 10% tariff would increase the price on the self by 13%, not 10%.

We live 35 minutes from Silicon Valley: Lay offs are happening more often & it takes longer to find a job. It takes at least three months to find a job. Maybe more. It’s common to get laid off when companies run out of money, can’t find investors, can’t sell their products. Usually, a job will last two-three years. I know someone who was laid off because the company ran out of money. It took him three months to find a job. He worked hard for three months & the company let their team go. He’s been looking for almost three months. Usually, it takes about two months to find a job. The last time things were this bad was 2009. Also, the EDD is really bad. Three months late with unemployment checks. Screwing up registration with no explanation. Using bad software & not taking responsibility…Slow walking unemployment claims & pretending they don’t know what’s going on…

Money can't buy you Love; But everything else is negotiable. . . . , including the uneducated. "(Reuters) - U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump's declaration of love for "the poorly educated" in his Nevada victory speech lit up social media on Wednesday, sparking a battle between those dumbfounded by the remark and those saying it had been taken out of context." February 24, 201611:59 AM CSTUpdated 8 years ago: "After winning the vote of the state's Republicans by a wide margin on Tuesday, the real estate billionaire rattled off a list of those groups who swept him to victory: "We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated." Thanks Al and Catherine.

It's actually perfectly valid to tell people "the numbers are bigger now, get over it". Prices will never go down in the long term unless there is deflation, which would be incredibly bad. Stuff is way more expensive now than it was in the 1950's, no one is complaining about not paying 5c for an ice cream cone.

I think a lot of people are considering transitioning to an electric car, but they're being held back by the cost. Cheap Chinese options could be the answer they've been waiting for. I've heard Biden may initiate a 100% tariff on Chinese electric cars which would keep those vehicles out of reach.

Happiness is low in the USA, and that equates to families with less babies. Perhaps grocery prices aren't constantly going up but they are high, fluctuating or not they are "inflated". $60 a bag I call inflation. Economists point out & concentrate on trends, us food eaters look at the smaller box of cookies for more money & laugh. You say tomaato I say- "Eh, don't need cookies anyway" Doesn't matter, I wouldn't vote for the orange psycho if cookies were free for everybody. Or steak w/the crispy bits either. the depressing thing is how even the undoubted pinnacle of American excellence and decency as to hear in this one can't come up with points Americans should really be aware of, as e.g.: - Japanese central bank for the first time in decades has positive interest rates. Why? Because even Japan, far away from Ukraine and energy or food impacts of RuZZia's war, has a problem with inflation. Inflation isn't an American problem (besides the tariffs), but America does better as about everybody else! - European manufacturers of Solar panels move production from state funded premises in Eastern Germany to US - and with them hundreds of workplaces. Why? Because Biden's IRA gives them better opportunities there and a better market. - Germany did set its EV-Charging station goal according - among all Auto-countries - US!!! Petrol-US!!! Where a former president keeps ranting about EVs. Why? Because the last two years boosted by the IRA EV-carging density and hence EV comfort of use increased rapidly and far above German situation. And other that in Europe in US by far most of EVs are domestically produced. - Biden, in order to fight rising costs of living autumn 2022, sold American strategic oil reserves at far above USD 100. Now he re-purchases at around USD 80. May someone put that in perspective with the claims of democrats wasting money. From a perspective a bit out of the dust of the infighting within US the contrast between red delusion and blue competence gets much clearer and much more obvious to explain. WaPo Catherine Rampell should start with it!

People dont believe the economy is good, because goods and services are often unaffordable. Plus most Americans know once prices rise on something,,,, the prices dont go down on that item. Then you have monopolies means no competition , competition helps prices go down.

if you want to pay american workers more then that will be reflected in the cost .. by placing tariffs on the more cheaply made imports it levels the playing field so that those goods will cost that same as the made in america ones .. if your goal is to increase domestic production then the costs must be equivalent .. so tariffs on certain products are in place to foster & assist the transfer of jobs back to the US from where they went .. and biden did not lift them when he could have .. why ?? ask the econ writer ??
