I teared up as soon as the anthem started in the beginning. I never had any misconceptions about being a pilot; but I knew I wanted to join the Navy when I saw the original in 87 when I was fourteen(I watched it on VHS OK)... And to this day I have ABSOLUTELY NO regrets about serving my country for thirteen years. Thanks Tom, Val, Tony, Meg, Tom... and most importantly, Jerry Bruckheimer, for bringing it altogether.

It’s weird. I throughly enjoyed watching it the first time, but I thought I had outgrown the habit of watching a movie multiple times in a week. I found myself watching a second time three days later, and I’m fighting the urge to watch it again. I even watched the original after the second time I watched Maverick. 😂 Society is designed to crush children into cog-shaped boxes to be installed into somebody else’s machine to build another person’s dream. The biggest failing of standardized and formal “education” is that it teaches students WHAT to think and not HOW to think. That process kills the infinite possibilities that exists within the child’s mind. Becoming an adult today means burying your dreams of yesterday. Society falls apart because of that because without imagination, society cannot solve its own problems leaving it reliant and forever dependent on a government that represents the individual less and less.

I saw it tonight, and had a lump in my throat. I’ve decided it isn’t just nostalgia, it’s admiration for Cruise & co for dedication to craft and insisting on doing this old school when everything is CGI these days. It’s reminiscent of Howard Hugh’s devotion to ‘Hell’s Angels”, and in a way the two films are bookends: it’s hard to imagine anyone doing another movie like this.

When I was about 6 and saw Goose died, that was my first heartbreak watching a movie. I shedded a tear the other day because I finally saw Maverick and Goose go on an adventure but Goose was living it through his son. "My dad would've done the same thing for you." 🐓 That got to me. It showed that Goose was still there in spirit. He would've saved Mav's life no matter what and vice-versa if things went bad. That's love, man. Imagine how great Dead Reckoning is going to be? The Infinity War/Endgame to MI. Tom will work hard to make MI7 as awesome as possible just like he did to the franchise that launched him literally into the next stratosphere in '86. ✈

Six months of my four years in the US Navy were deployed as an air crewman aboard the USS Yorktown. Great times, the best of my life, although it cost the lives of 5 pilots and air crew in my and our sister squadron. The original Top Gun movie seemed like a part of my life, even with the technical inaccuracies the are all too obvious to an actual player. There’s also the issue of a six month deployment aboard a carrier not being all that much fun…. However, I kept those observations to myself as I sent my two oldest sons, fresh from having watched the VHS of Top Gun a half dozen times, and well behind on their community college studies, down to a Navy recruitment office “to see what programs they might find interesting, no obligations.” Anyone who has served in the military knows the rest of that story. Now the three of us, all veterans, and myself having worked as a structural engineer on both the F/A-18 and the F-35A, B and C, are anxious to see the next edition. I am so glad to hear from this excellent review by Ward that we will not be disappointed. Thank you, Ward. Sir!

With poor eyesight, a weak inner ear, and a lack luster college GPA I was never going to land a seat in a more military cockpit. But enthusiasm and inspiration that movie created did result in a degree, a commission, and the chance to jump out of aircraft. Then 17 years later a tour in Iraq, after completing law school and starting a career as a prosecutor. I strongly endorse your recommendation on the big screen. Cruise and team really made an excellent movie with Top Gun Maverick. It really stirred feelings of nostalgia for all those things, people, institutions and virtues that motivated me in those days, and still do. Mooch, just watched this movie this evening...on Christmas Day, on Paramount+ at home.....I cannot express how much I loved this movie. I am speechless. Tom Cruise does a fantastic job, a 5 star job in this movie. I don't care about some of the fiction involved but it was a massively great movie. As a Navy veteran who worked as an avionics tech. in an A6E Intruder Squadron in the early 80's, I can relate to the character Tom Cruise plays as an old pilot trying to relate to a younger generation. I would definitely recommend watching this movie as I will probably watch it again! Love your channel!! Takes me back to my youth! What a great time to live back then!

Spot on review, the movie was great; as a RL military pilot I had to suspend my disbelief, but as with the first Top Gun, one has to go into it with the understanding that though the two films are not a word for word translation of the details of military aviation, they do an excellent job of capturing the anticipation and the thrill of flying in combat, as well as the personalities involved.

*Why did the F-14 have to be in this movie?* Because Maverick had to end his career in a Tomcat, fighting for not only his life, but also Goose's son's life. And it's like wrecking your new car way out in the desert, with no cell phone service and locals straight out of "Deliverance" and then stumbling across the only form of transport for miles... and it's a pristine example of your long-gone first muscle car...and it's full of gas & the keys are in it! Any scenario that put Mav back in an F-14 was going to be a stretch, but they really *had* to do it, and I think they pulled it off OK.

1:40 - I agree completely. 14:30 - Ditto. I saw it in an IMAX theater here in Zagreb the same day it officially opened in the US, May 27th. Let me add that Kosinski tried to squeeze in a detail or two increasing the sense of reality even in otherwise over the top scenes: according to AW&ST (a.k.a. "Aviation Leak") Skunk Work's SR-72 (proposal or prototype is anybody's guess) is supposed to be optionally piloted or perhaps completely uncrewed and reach perhaps Mach 6. Max speed notwithstanding, that relatively tight turn at hypersonic speed would have made pulp out of the pilot. Regardless, there was one little gem: Maverick prebreathing oxygen to get rid of nitrogen from his blood prior to donning pressure suit where he would breathe pure oxygen at 0.2 or 0.3 bar (once he reaches altitude), like astronauts doing EVA.
@ScottHirons
@ScottHirons 2 жыл бұрын
The most difficult thing to get over seems to be the years of service Maverick has and how old Rooster would be based on his age in the first Top Gun. Couldn't they have solved this by just pre-dating the move with some narrative in the opening credits? Make it set in 2010. More realistic timing, and reduces the math issues.
@nicolaeionescu6538
@nicolaeionescu6538 2 жыл бұрын
A more realistic story and easy to accept by the viewers would have been to make rooster an O-5, place him under Maverick direct order's and make him the guy that's always 2nd guessing his superior, kinda turning him into what Maverick was in the 1st film.

I have long thought, and recently discovered that Quentin Tarantino agrees with me, that the James Bond oeuvre should be reshot as a series of period pieces, faithful to the letter as possible to Ian Fleming's novels and chronology. The first one could even be in black and white. Incidentally, remember that the book started being written about 10 years before the movie started being made. 007 is an early 1950s character, having served at a very young age in the Second World War. Fleming in fact referred to Bond Having the gambling experience documented from an episode going against a Roumanian syndicate before the war, which seems like it makes Bond at least 10 years older than he was ultimately recast by Fleming later. Some wonderful British detective and spy thriller TV was made before color television, the film could be shot in that style, like early The Avengers or The Saint or Danger Man. Anyway... I wonder that a hundred film students haven't done this. Easy money and certainly for Casino Royale, the SFX demands are modest but for one scene (I did like how the 2006 redid it). Other than that, all dialogue, card playing, a little fighting, beach, bed, a grand casino establishing shot and some spare footage. You'd rarely have 10 people on the screen at one time.
