WAP changed flying units so they had different ranges and I think WH:tOW picking that rule up is a god thing. One one hand it allows to curtail the power of certain flying units by making them slower instead of giving everything with fly a 20’’ charge distance. On the other hand it makes sense that gray eagle is faster than a dwarf Battle barge.

Per Movement: I think Kings of War really got it fixed. You get a free partial rotation and then you can move or charge. Easy as that. For Combat, a WS vs WS roll off would be a very interesting way to go.

I loved the 8th magic phase but it was just one spell, purple sun that was stupid but I also liked magic in pretty much every edition from 3rd onwards. I agree that the wording on the magic was contradictory. In 4th you could both cast and dispel in each phase but I don’t think they will go back to that. We also think you’ll only be able to dispel spells that are cast on targets within your command range, hence the importance of placement.

My personal feeling is there trying to break up the wait while an opponent has there turn and you get a little board as them move, this way you have to be more in the game using spells that affect in there movement phase and seeing what there doing, so lets say a group of spells that can ONLY be used in your opponents phase so you have to keep a eye out or spells you cast but now shown till a certain until moves or something like that

This may sound sack religious to fantasy players but I hope tow war machines work something like 40k’s big guns. A cannon having a certain number of shots that are high power and high damage. Maybe it gains extra shots per rank that the target has. A stone thrower could work similarly but be able to shoot out of line of site unlike the cannon. I really don’t see any system that invoices a scatter dice or blast template being used in any modern game semi competitive rule set.

I really need to know how close combat works I fear fixed to hit rolls like AoS/40K which I just don't like I much prefer WS v WS as it does a better job of representing combatants defending themselves

GW: “this is a new game with new rules”. These two: “this is how these rules interact with 8th edition 😂” In all seriousness, the rules seem bog standard…this is a turn and round plays out. It’s nice to see what they did with magic. Move magic in the move phase, Shooty magic in the shooty phase. Means they are making an effort to make the rule set less complicated. Ultimately, I don’t know yet whether I should be excited for these rules yet. WH’s problem was never with the structure of a turn. What I want to know is whether or not they have created simple and elegant rules for movement, combat and unit structure. I quite like what kings of war did, but I would like to see a different approach to making a rank and file game that flows well and rewards good tactical decisions. We shall see.

Yeah I did talk a lot about 8th. But it’s my biggest reference regarding gaming and I struggle to separate ToW and 8th. I have no doubt it’s going to feel like a modern GW game. Which I believe is reflected in the turn sequence… but that’s not a bad thing, I love playing AoS, 40K and heresy. I agree though when you dig through the rule set the structured of a turn is really well fleshed out. I feel if they get the movement phase right the rest of the game is there for the taking.

Regarding the victory condition; something happening at the very end of a turn or at the very beginning of a turn is no functional difference, is it.

well thinking about it. I guess it gives your opponent the chance for a riposte right? If we fight hard over an objective and I win it by the end of my turn but don't score it. It gives you the opponent a battle round to retaliate.

@@Pedzpaints Oh, I must've misheard then. I thought it would be in the following start-of-phase-whatchama call it, regardless of player. That's true.

Not going to lie I really don’t know. It was your comment that made me think of it to be honest. It might be dependant on the scenario. I’d expect to only meet a victory condition in my own command phase.

I don't know what editions you play, but you could never rally if your units were less than 25%...

8th edition, "a unit that has less than 25% of its starting models left can only rally on a roll of a double 1" page 24 of the smaller rule book for island of blood

@Pedzpaints Can I ask you a question? Do you think that taking a level 4 caster being a must-have limited list building and felt like powerful wizards fighting over a bunch of pointless units?

@@SlainByAnOrc ultimately yes. I feel that the core of my more competitive dwarf lists were designed to shut down as much magic as possible. I do feel it was too easy to cast a game changing spell. Take purple sun for example. With such a low risk. Does it matter If my wizard has a chance to die if I can take almost entire units off with 1 spell. I pray to sigmar that a good fireball in ToW is something to fear and the majority of magic is rooted in buffs and debuffs.
