MoP was a better expansion than WoD and SL combined, I am tired of people pretending MoP was a bad expansion

In Shadowlands, I was very excited to see Shaohao, Durotan, Orgrim Doomhammer, Anduin's mom, Onyxia, Nathanos, Sicco Thermaplugg, Dagran Thaurissan, Liam Greymane. Just as an easter egg at least. A simple NPC with a dialogue text. But no, they could not even do that.

WoD was like, a really good burger like an absolute banger of a burger but as good as that burger was it had no drink, no fries, no chips, no slaw, no sides whatsoever so as good as that burger was you were left unsatisfied because you feel like you didn't have a full meal. BfA and SL were buffets of bland mass produced food. Sure there were a few items you may have enjoyed, the mac and cheese was decent or they had some good tendies but anyone who has actually worked at a mediocre buffet will tell you that they are incredibly unsanitary and as a result everyone got food poisoning despite the abundant content. To top it all off the cooks were in the back m*lesting the waitresses so the restaurant was hit with a big lawsuit so you don't want to eat there anymore. Cata and WoD are definite cases of "perhaps we treated you too harshly" because we had no idea how bad things could get.

Shadowlands now has WoD looking like the good old days and has set a new low for WoW.

I grind exalted for very few factions, but I did in WoD for the Talon King title. Those Aarakoa and their storyline really hit me. Aside from that, chill evenings until 2am running Ashran with Aussies was always fun.

It’s such a shame how WoD turned out because what was actually in the expansion was really good for the most part. If we got that extra Zangarmarsh zone, the capital cities, an extra raid tier, and could freely place garrisons where we wanted to I actually think WoD would be one of the best expansions.

WoD was a ton of lost opportunities. Where was the continent that became netherstorm? Why aren't the black temple and the orc mountain our capitols? Where is the middle story of yrel and Grom? Potential unrealized, and I was so invested, then disappointed. Shadowlands? sneak through Maw? Can we skip it? Covenant zones, I just did not care about the story. Non starter.

I remember people complaining about kung-fu pandas when it first came out, but I didn't listen to them. I like Pandaria. It's a beautiful continent, the pandaren have an interesting cultural take on life (for a lot of reasons), and it always felt like a lost world to me. I'd love to land on the shores of Pandaria! I'm not an expert in game design or mechanics; I just like things. My favorite place is Halfhill, just shoveling dirt, mingling with the locals, and daydreaming about all the food. People complain about stuff all the time. Sometimes I can see their point, but their opinion has little bearing on whether Ienjoy the game. Perhaps it's because I'm a "filthy casual" and not a hardcore player, but I've managed to find something I like about all the expansions. Cataclysm was probably my least favorite, I guess, but I was glad they added the flying--because I'm an explorer. I liked the worgen and the goblins. (The first area of the goblins was fun, cruising in the hotrod.) A lot of people hated Vashj'ir; I actually liked it (especially the music), though it was somewhat disorienting. Deepholm is still very pretty. I liked that the Wildhammers were fleshed out a little more, though the Twilight things and the giant sarlacc pit are definitely eyesores. I guess it might be ironic, but the thing I disliked most about Cataclysm was that the world I fell in love with when I started playing (right after BC released) was torn apart. Seeing the Barrens, a zone I spent many happy hours tooting around in (and laughing at Barrens chat), torn in two actually bothered me. My wife felt the same about Darkshore. Anyway, I'm rambling. I can see and understand most of the points people make about the quality of the game, but I just...love Azeroth. Sometimes I get bored or need a break, but it's my home away from home. Maybe I'm simple. Maybe I'm alone. But I love this game, and I'm glad it isn't dead for realsies yet. (I actually dread that day.) 🙂

This has always been my opinion. WoD wasn't bad because the content was bad, it was bad because we didn't have enough of it. Shadowlands was bad because the content was bad, but there was never any lack of stuff to do when logging on, in fact you were completely inundated with shit you had to do which caused the act of playing the game to be actively unfun.

As a new player who joined during end of BFA, I enjoyed Shadowlands a lot. I liked the Covenants, I liked the fact that the story took a new direction after a level squish so that new players could feel like they fit into the story and playerbase for an expansion. Was there a lot of problems and the plot was basically an afterthought after launch? Absolutely, but I still go back to Shadowland zones because I like the aesthetic of the zones and the side stories. I still get chills watching the Arthas/Luther cinematic in Bastion even if it went pretty much nowhere. I enjoyed crafting my legendary, it made me interact with professions when I used to never bother. Castle Nathria was my introduction to WoW current content raiding, and it is still my favorite raid to have gone through, ESPECIALLY Denathrius. Alot of things could have just been done at launch (basically all of 9.3 QOL Changes) to have made the expansion better. I got into PVP in SL, and because of it I never felt like I had to keep up on dailies or anything like that to stay up to date on gear or power, if you pushed rating you felt pretty good in my opinion. I think SL was rough for sure, but I leveled to 120 during that end of BFA and I almost didnt want to touch the game again. SL kept me into WoW, and thats all I can really say. WoD wasn't a bad expansion it just lacked end game content. That's because blizzard scrapped a bunch of plans to make way for legion. Which is such a shame because they could have had two awesome expansions back to back. Leveling was awesome and badass. I was so invested in the story and Nagrand didn't disappoint at all. PVP was awesome. If it just wasn't for the content drought people would consider it one of WoW's best expansions. Now Shadowlands.... That sucked from the beginning. From watching Bolvar get bitch smacked in the cinematic all the way to the pointless rep grinds in Zereth Mortis. Everything sucked. The jailer? What a joke.. Arthas getting shit on and Sylvanas tells us to forget about him after she gets a redemption arc. Aside from simps virgins nobody likes Sylvanas anymore. Garrosh disenchanted himself after we see him for five seconds. The robot shit. The boring zones. All of it just sucked. Shadowlands was the last straw that made me lose faith in blizzard entirely. And now everyone is praising DF. I'll happily play wrath classic and wait a few months for people to finish leveling and run out of things to do. I'm not investing my time in something that doesn't give much hype to begin with. The DF launch cinematic was something out of a Disney Pixar movie for children. Didn't feel like wow at all. And the Twink furry new race/class doesn't interest me at all either. I'm not trying to insult anyone if they're having fun and like the expansion. If you do I'm seriously happy for you. I just don't trust blizzard anymore and would rather wait six months to a year and get REAL feedback before I go anywhere near it... But to conclude my rant I'll just say if most players had a choice between SL and WoD you can be damn sure 99% of the players would choose WoD

If WoD and Cataclysm both had world quests and mythic+ then they would've been received as amazing expansions. Instead they failed to deliver a compelling end-game which overshadowed the amazing worlds they had to offer. Shadowlands fails in its worldbuilding which makes the world quests and dungeons an unpleasant experience as well.

Personally I think WoD gets done dirty far too often, was there a lot of content cut? absolutely, wouldn't be the first time it's happened with a WoW expension but what we got was still solid, the Questing in the world was top notch, the raiding ranged from solid to amazing and you got a lot of use out of our alts, to the tail end of that expansion I was operating 27 garrisons over 4 servers, I was able to hit the gold cap, pay for my sub, got myself the Swift Spectral tiger, X-51 and even put that cap later into more free months, Bloodfang widow and Longboi. Hell, I's say it was close to or on par with legion or Cataclysm, better then BFA and certainly Shadowlands.

MoP had a questionable theme, which of course is important, but gameplay wise it was absolute S tier, especially in PvP. WoD also had good gameplay, top tier raids but sadly not enough content. I was not a huge fan of garrisons but I also didnt hate them. Shadowlands was just pure plain and boring dogshit in almost every aspect

great video dude, i did not play either of those expansions ( I am highly enjoying my classic wotlk experience instead) but i live for the story/drama of a videogame that is as old as WoW, with all its ups and downs. Hope you make more content like this! subbed and belled! :D

I never-ending understood why people hated in WoD itself, having played through it at the time. Obviously, I felt ripped off for the lack of content, but the content itself was stellar. The levelling was Wrath-level! And I actually liked my Garrison, unlike everyone else. Shadowlands, well... mediocre story by WoW standards, boring as fuck, zero retention 😀 I just stopped playing 2 months in. Came back a bit for 2 weeks on 9.3, saw all the systems and gave up. Hopefully, Dragonflight will be better, although I'm not really sold yet.

Also, Warlords of Draenor and Shadowlands are the only 2 expansions in which neither a new race nor a new class were added to the game. Coincidence? I think not!

I think people forget the main reason why WoD was disliked was because of so much cut content that was originally promised and content droughts. WoD in itself was actually kinda fun, until you ran out of fun things to do. The worst thing in WoD, like actually in it, by far, was the garrisons waiting time. Not even the garrisons themselves (although, people were upset about the unmet promises about garrisons), but the waiting time was annoying to all of us. But past that? WoD was pretty fun. I think people look at the worst moments and have that define an entire expansion, rather than taking the good times, and then stop playing when you reach the bad times (which would be the content drought). A lot of people are used to having something fun and stimulating to do in WoW EVERY single day. And that's completely reasonable to expect that from an mmo. But if you look at WoD as game where you just played until you were caught up and then took a break? Wasn't that bad. I also think people forget, the majoirty of players ARE casuals who are not logging in every single day. And there is a silent mass of people out there who did like WoD (not me, I'm def a daily WoW person). They just don't hang out in these parts of youtube nor really in the WoW community in general. They install the game, play it and then that's about it. And they don't even know what's going on most of the time, they're just there to enjoy the game. That's the majority of blizz's audience, and I think people forget that. However, types of players like me, the more grindy ones who want soemthing every day, have a higher rate of sub retention. So even though we are less, they still try to pander to use heavily, as the casuals are easy to attract regardless, and don't tend to have high retention rates since their reasons for retaining a sub are a bit too diverse to focus on. They just sub for about a month, have some fun, then drop their sub to probably go play the newest single player game that came out. I think because WoW seems to be made so heavily for us (people who grind the heck out of it), people forget the majority of players of WoW are not made up by us, and that plenty of people actually loved WoD and are just silent about it. Those types of people don't really discuss things online nor are they going to partake in a poll for whether or not they like WoD to contribute to research data. They probably don't even know the expansion was considered bad, because they just take the game as it is, and when they were bored, they stopped playing. And I mean, there's probably plenty of people like that for shadow lands as well. Although, I think a big part of why shadow lands failed is because they messed up both sides of the equation. Casual and noncasual. Noncasuals felt bored or like things weren't fun. Casuals felt like they were being pushed into noncasual things as the main form of content, rather than what they're used to, which is finding a way to play the game unique to themselves. Things were a bit too complex for them. Like y'all, imagine playing WoW with 0 addons, 0 use of wowhead and as if it's more of a exploratory, mystery based game. That's how most people tend to play WoW. You could really enjoy any WoW expansion like that. And most casuals have 0 idea what's going on in the story and have no idea if it's good writing or not. They just follow the emotions, music and visuals and go off of that. If any scene is dramatic, with good music and looks pretty, they'll probably like it. It's very hard for blizz to master the balance between us and them, since we play the game so completely different. I believe, overall WoD was recieved wayyy better, for countless little nuances and psychological reasons. WoD was really just a failed expansion for the hardcore WoW fans who play this game as part of their life. It was fine or even really good for people who just really enjoy getting immersed in WoW. Those people can have fun in any expansion, stuck at level 20, chatting people up whenever they find them. And now if we take a gander at dragonflight, you can see there's plenty for both sides of players. And so even though dragonflight is kinda... mundane right now and not much is going on, a lot of people are fine and happy with it. There's always stuff to do if you want something to do, and it's usually pretty entertaining. There's multiple different high end currencies to farm, those help keep everything feeling rewarding and prevents high end players from feeling like they're getting screwed over by rng and forced to play the same dungeons when they don't want to. The casuals have endless events to attend and things to explore, always something going on. Looks like blizz focused on the actual feeling on dragonflight rather than just being stubborn about game design decisions that weren't pleasing us. They didn't wow us, but they didn't dissapoint us either, and I think that's a safe place for them to aim right now.

100% Agree wod is better than shadowlands. Both clearly cut short, both had flag ship systems that should have been great a roguelike tower and player housing are great ideas the community wants. I agree with your take on the attention economy wow has felt more like a prison than a world to explore. There had been more systems were you could just lose and not gain something which wasn't normal the wow feel. Shadow lands is the first time that wow has had two "Bad xpacs" in a row hopefully dragon flight is good, otherwise they better start making a new classic+++ or sell the rights to make the game to the final fantasy guys.

WOD was great, problem was they took too long to release legion. Let's say we had 6 months of hellfire citadel and a 1 month prepatch before legion and people would have great memories of it.

WoD was the worst expansion at the time. But then BfA claimed that title, only to immediately lose it to Shadowlands. In retrospect WoD’s biggest sin was that it was the most content-starved expansion, even before it ended but other than that it wasn’t that bad. May we never get another expansion like Shadowlands.

Warlords of Dreanor was my favorite expansion when it launched all the way until I finished my garrisons. After that it was the worst expansion, but still better than Shadowlands. My personal favorite expansions were Mop,Legion,Wrath, and BC.

I absolutly agree with you, WoD was fun and at that time I really enjoyed the game, but Shadowlands literally made me quit the game, uninstalled for like a year and only when the dragonflight expansion was anunce I returned to the game, also the lore was absolutly murdered in Shadowlands

This video made me very happy I skipped Shadowlands. I played from Woltk all the way to WoD where I took a break, only to then return for late legion and BFA. The moments they announced Shadowlands I immediatly thought the concept and just direction of the game reminded me of WoD (Alternate reality plot BS, while continuing the borrowed power systems from BFA and the chore nature of it) and had 0 hype for it.

Warlords of Draenor was great. I love alternate timelines. I want to visit alternate Azeroth. I want to see Arthas as King married to Jaina and this Utopia that gets destroyed by the lightforged draenei. I had fun exploring the locations and seeing how they were before they became Outland. I'm disappointed they didn't add the extra continents and zones. I loved fighting the legion there, garrisons were great, setting up my own little keep? Only wish there was more modding and I could set up a plot of land outside Stormwind in some region that's up in the hills that I could call my own. Be a lord of the land or set up something near the Exodar or Darnassus with proper themes. Only thing I didn't like was watching Thrall cheat and use his powers in the fight with Garrosh. Shadowlands was pretty good too if you like afterlife themes. I didn't mind the different purgatories but then they'd destroy souls into ash and send them all into the maw. Really messed up stuff. You don't reunite with your family? You get sorted out like a factory? Yeah, f didn't like their views of it. It messed with the ghosts and spirits that lingered too. Biggest problem was Sylvanas and her becoming evil storyline since Cataclysm. She becomes the thing she hates and does all kinds of horrible crap, then gets redeemed in the end because she got a piece of soul back... she shouldn't have made those decisions in the first place, as a 'hero' who hates Arthas and what he stood for. It was interesting story ideas with the stakes a little too surreal. Torghast wasn't fun. The maw was horrid untnil later patches, then it was tolerable with gear upgrades. Nah, I'd say battle for Azeroth was the worst. It just wasn't fun. The final act where you'd get the cape and go run that mini-dungeon in major cities was fun and battling the final bosses, but all the war stuff was annoying. They just unlearned all the lessons in MoP. It felt like a repeat. Lot of the expansions feel like 2.0s. Warlords of Draenei is Outlands 2.0. BoA is Classic Warcraft 2.0, Shadowlands is Wrath of the Lich King 2.0. And Legion is Cataclysm 2.0. It just wasn't that fun for me. The only thing worth getting now is nice looking transmog sets for different classes and some mounts. The game's too grindy and stalls every major patch for new ways to grind new gear and transmogs. It's not fun to work at getting higher lvl gear just for some patch to undo it and make you start again. Then a new expansion comes out and you level to the end game to do it all over again. I'd rather get that end game gear and work on a new alt until the next big patch.

If 6.1 didn't have so much cut content (RIP Shatt Raid) I think WOD would've been a great xpac, but because it was such a shit patch that had nothing and Grom was suddenly friend, WOD just shit itself long term. 6.2's long drought didn't help of course. I enjoyed WOD until 6.2 ended up being a 14(Iiirc) month patch

Shadowlands and BFA were the only expansions I never played. I'm glad I didn't from what I hear. It was very odd to return to 2 Dranors and two Dalarans - blizz must have really been after that nostalgia dollar

WoD was one of the best modern expansions if not the best for me, simply because I liked PvP so much and story was so good that it had some nostalgia effect from my TBC days when I started WoW. It truly felt great world PvPing and just spamming new BG (Ashran) for a whole day. I will never experience same thing from WoW again, I know that, every other expansion was worst then previous one, to the point that I quit WoW completely 2 years ago in Shadowlands (I did play DF for 3 days then I canceled sub)

In my opinion BFA was easily the worst expansion ever. Do you remember any of the new features in BFA like Warfronts, Island Expeditions or Visions of NZoth? ... Me neither... Also, while the story of Shadowlands was a complete mess, at least the grinding systems where better than in BFA. I feel like people have forgotten that there were no PVP vendors in BFA and all weekly gear was completely Random. Azerite traits and essences had to be grinded for weeks for every single character before you could even attempt to play current content. And that is not even mentioning the biggest bullshit system ever: Corruptions

WoD was cool, if for no other reason than it shouting out wc1/wc2 - which some of us older people really wanted and enjoyed. The people that hated it were the sweaty try hard vocal minority that devour content faster than they consume their pizzas and energy drinks.

I'm always going to consider WoD the worst because they literally nerfed a class because they didn't want people to play it. Straight up the reason they did it, words right out of the corp's mouth, and it's somehow justified because they needed to rip off their abilities for the next edgelord hero class. Which doesn't even make sense, because Illidan's Meta form isn't innately DH but a boost he got from merging with the skull of Gul'dan, A WARLOCK. Smdh.

Wrath/Vanilla (Both my favorite eras for different reasons) > TBC > Pandaland > Cata > Legion > WoD > BFA > Shadowlands Admittedly I didn't play much BFA or shadowlands since I have kind have been done with the game after Legion, but of the little I have done.

WoD is the most underrated expansion by far. The class gameplay was the most fun it's possibly ever been. PvP was run. Raids were fun. Yes, content was way too sparse, but it gets way too much of a bad rap because of herd mentality.

The pure fun of building up your garrison, getting garrison followers and other miscellaneous things in WoD are all I remember about the expansion. I had a great time, probably because I didn’t stay subbed throughout the whole expansion.

Also the PvP was ridiculously unbalanced in extreme levels. Also some specs got annoying "rotation" mechanics, too many keybinds, making them efficiently unplayable.

For me WoD was right after WotLK in my favorite xpacs ever created. And right after SL and BfA I have TBC as worst Xpacs ever created.

In regards to storyline - the moment time travel was introduced you know they had terrible writers. The story of WoW has always been poor even at its best it's only one step up from a Saturday morning cartoon. I'd often invent my own story in my head for my characters.

Shadowlands was the first expansion that I didn't play to top level. I stopped at level 56 and have not been back to retail since. It was awful imo.

I hated almost everything about WoD , the story was dumb and horrible and don't get me started on how long it took you to get through that starting quest , I hated SL but dam did WoD suck
