Margarey is one of the most beautiful women in Westeros, so her looks affect how people treat her. Unlike Sansa, Arianne and Daenerys she lacks other elements to use in the game so her looks are her primary weapon. Unlike many women in Westeros she has not opened her legs or even her dress to anyone outside of marriage, which is somewhat of an oddity given what she could gain. She may be the only "untainted" women of noble birth.

@summerglace3294
@summerglace3294 11 ай бұрын
@@shauryashekharMargaery and Cersei are very different strategists. In a severely misogynistic world like Westeros woman are typically viewed for their looks, so it’s not really a bad thing to make that typical disadvantage an advantage. Cersei however uses almost only her looks tho. She is a high level narcissist who is almost childish with insults. She literally filled her council with men who would just tell her how smart she is all day, instead of men who were actually skilled. Cersei basically just sleeps with people to keep them on her side. She sleeps with Jamie, the kettle backs, Euron Greyjoy etc. whereas Margaery uses a more intellectual way of her looks, she changes her behaviour to paint and image of herself that would be most advantageous to her. She paints herself to appear generous and benevolent in front of the people, to make the people love her and want her as their queen. She paints herself as a sweet obedient wife to Joffrey, who also desires to hear about his interests and enjoys his cruelty; in order to manipulate Joffrey to her side. So the big difference between Cersei and Margaery is that Cersei is incapable of truly changing her behaviour even when it would benefit her, instead of persuasion she uses petty threats and straight out insults. Cersei is rigid and temperamental. Margaery is flexible and manipulative. Which is why Margaery would destroy Cersei in the game of thrones if it truly came down to it.

Cersei was both smart and intelligent. Much more so Margery. But Margery was by no means dumb. She was just alot younger than Cersei, and lacked the life experience that Cersei had. You’re using modern standards for historical norms. When a girl can have children, she is no longer a child by any standard. Naive, immature, still developing, and icky; I know. But when the priority is to make healthy babies to keep your species alive, you waste nothing. Our standard for what is an adult today is purely a result of excess resources. I think a couple of things need to be considered there. First of all, Fire and Blood is written as a historical text, which means its "written by the winners". Even if Rhaenyra truly had remained bigger after her pregnancies, disparaging comments about her have to be taken with a grain of salt as history's victors would have bad-mouthed her anyway they could. There's also a lot of misogyny written toward any female character that is meant to be perceived as the villain (GRR Martin would have intended this). And again, even if Rhaenyra has remained larger, that isn't to say she would have necessarily been fat and ugly. Even Cersei's body changed (in the books during her walk of shame, the crowd mocked her for her "sagginess", whereas clothed she had been regarded as a beauty. Nudity can be most unbecoming, especially to older women when their skin and curves are less firm). What could have been considered fat could well have been just "normal". Or it could have been untrue. We'll never know for sure!

@@venomshot2815pregnancy changes how the body uses calories. You are technically correct, but when you have metabolic syndrome your TDEE can be like 700 calories under the typical because the body composition utilises less calories. Fat is metabolically less active than muscle and takes less energy to maintain Unfortunately your hunger hormones and brain don't recognise this. Your body becoming more 'efficient' doesn't translate to thinking clearly, having energy etc.

I could go on but to summarize the princess just relied on her daddy making everyone make a promise to her 25 years before he died Alicent on the other hand in my eyes is a pawn in the game of thrones and also I believe she not only acted in devotion to her house but also because if I’m being real with you the fact that rhaenyra’s sons are obviously bastards if they ever wish to rule uncontested alicent and THE KING’s TRUE BORN SONS will have to be put to the sword because THAT IS THE WAY OF THIS UNIVERSE IN THESE TIME PERIODS, as I said before marrying daemon didn’t help with this theory and we all know it Alicent’s sons and grandsons WERE NOT SAFE. I honestly kind of despise this narrative for multiple reasons. 1) Women using their looks in a patriarchal, capitalist society is the equivalent to men using their money (something that is also distributed in unevenly and likely inherited, especially considering Westeros‘ rigid social structure). However I always get a sense that while using your looks is seen as a sign of weakness, using your money is somehow admirable. (Uhh, he knows which people to bribe. What a sign of political prowess.) 2) Margery and Cersei are political powerhouses (and Margery at least in the books wasn’t even described to be that beautiful e.g. when compared to Sansa). They are master manipulators both of powerful men and in Margery‘s case also of the common folk. To attribute their success to their looks is just disrespectful. 3)Nowhere, not once do the books state that Rhaenyra was somehow ugly because of her additional weight and also breaking the conflict of Rhaenyra and Alicent down to „Oh no, she was jealous of her good looks“ seems like an oversimplification and slander added to the reports on the dance later to make Rhaenyra look bad.

I think Margarey being reduced to "because she was hot" undermines her character. She is extremely astute and knows to use what she was given to her advantage. She knows she's attractive and she knows how her looks can play a role in her ambition. Aside from being attractive, she is educated and cunning and knows how to read people and give them what they want. She also has the wherewithal to know her position is always precarious. Cersei isn't like that at all. Cersei knows she's beautiful and has a high status. She is deluded into thinking she'll always have her way because men will fawn over her looks or be intimidated by her. It's a rude awakening for her when Rhaegar doesn't pay her much heed and instead goes for the "less pretty" Lyanna Stark, as did her late husband. It's doubly harsh for her as she gets older she couldn't seduce Ned Stark nor corrupt the Faith. And all of her seductions later in life were a result of her being in the position of power to make them do so, not because she's hot. She also didn't seem to understand how precarious her position in court was either because her status fell apart very quickly in the books when she's literally jailed for her own doings and her "looks" couldn't save her. So no. Margery's ascent doesn't always hinge on her looks, but her ability to play the role of whomever she's in the room with.

Besides, her main asset isn’t beauty, or else Sansa and Cersei would also get there way all the time. She is more complex than that. Again , something disregarded by the show .

@@blabla187the first time we got a glimpse of adult Rhaenyra was in ep06 i believe when she was giving birth to her 3rd child . Meaning they wouldn't need to make anyone gain weight. There are countless actresses who would fit the role . But that was not my point . I said the show disregarded this in order to paint Rhae as the spoiled little brat that got everything simply for her beauty. Unlike Alicent, that's not true . Many houses were extremely loyal to the Dragon Queen and honored their oaths

You can tell which is the true Targaryen. It's true about them, whenever a Targaryen is born it's always a coin flip: you either get a deranged lunatic or a cunning warrior, never in between.

@@aengusog3415Honestly I hope they do. She’s dreadfully boring in the book and doesn’t really drive anything by her actions - only inaction. I wouldn’t really call it whitewashing, just making her character actually worth paying attention to.

Does Cersei use her looks? That's not something I remember being a large part of her character, in either the books or the series. In fact, she rarely uses subtle means, preferring bullying and terror.

One thing to consider is the perspective of the book. It’s written as an in universe history text by a historian long after the Dance of the Dragons ended. If you know anything about, say, the Wars of the Roses (that thing that inspires so much in Martin’s books) you’ll know that physical descriptions that might be unflattering to someone who lost the war and written long after are not entirely trustworthy. That needs to be kept in mind for a lot of what happens in Fire and Blood.

Now i understand the reason why they chose a thick actress like Emma Darcy. I love her as rhaenyra and i think that she portrays rhaenyra perfectly because of her body type and im happy that the show stuck to the books and shows us a thick girl without portraying her as ugly which we rarely get to see. In short i would not want rhaenyra any other way. YOU SLAYYY IN YOU'RE OWN WAY QUEEN 💅👑✨️
