Thank you for the video. The local appliance parts store wanted $45 for that switch. So, I cut it off right at the switch, connected the two wires with a butt connector. Covered it with some shrink tubing and used electrical tape at the ends of tubing for good measure. I'm old and live alone, and I will (hopefully) never be stupid enough to stick my hand in the tub while it's screaming in circles.

Our switch broke ages ago and I had just unscrewed it from the machine, then clamped it closed with a wooden clothespin and stuffed it deeper under the top. It (mostly) worked perfectly, but would randomly come loose during a jarring spin cycle - then the metal tab fell off and there was less material to clamp. It became so annoying that I had to turn my brain back on and wondered how difficult it'd be to just close the circuit once and for all. You saved me even more thinking. This is probably the fastest fix I've done in years. Thanks!

Thanks loads for video. The connector for my lid switch is melted/fried. Local parts guy says it's a discontinued part. I'm guessing the center wire is the ground. Any chance I can bypass the connector too? Or do you think a connector from another model would work?

I bet you can tie the wires together but I haven’t tested it.

I cut and spliced the two outside wires and connected together. Taped it real good and haven't had an issue in a year.
