As some 150 journalists began touring the renovated Washington D.C. Temple on Monday, a theme emerged in comments on the temple’s importance.
As majestic as this - or any - house of the Lord Jesus Christ may be, far more central is its symbolism of Christ-rooted rebirth and change in human hearts.
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who enjoyed the calm and quiet inside the temple, said the structure reflects the “wonderful work that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does in the community. We’ve been working together with [the Church] on so many great project projects in the community - volunteering and food banks and getting people involved in supporting others.” (Two senior Church leaders met with him in 2019.)

Like the part where Elder Bednar says that Governor Hogan, as he walked through the temple, asked insightful questions. What a blessing to be able to invite people to Come and See the Temple of the Lord from April 28 to June 11 2022.

Such an amazing place that I am glad I can go through. When I joined in 1999 to do baptisms there, I knew I was where I had to be. At these iconic temples, I have received more answers through prayer.-Chad James

About 15 years ago I had the privilege to attend a session at the Washington DC Temple on my last day as a missionary for the Church in the Virginia Richmond Mission. It was an amazing experience, both in spirit and in person. What is even better is a Temple being built in Virginia for the members of the Church. They will no longer need to drive 3-4 hours to DC or even longer to neighboring Temples. Its a long time coming and many of us VRM veterans cheered when it was announced. Even when the new Virginia Temple is built the DC Temple will always be my mission temple.

It is beautiful to see so many who would otherwise rarely consider what goes on inside temples take a moment to reflect on why we value them. Praise be to God the Father and Jesus Christ for giving us the gift of temples on the Earth at this time.

2:10 What is this room?

I think the room at 2:10 is a special Assembly room that looks patterned after a similar room built in Kirkland Ohio, the very first Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

This room is called A "Solem Assembly Room". Where local Leaders of the Church have opportunities to meet the"Prophet", recieve spiritual instructions and maybe even meet the Savior... Jesus Christ.

Each temple built decreases the power of Satan around that beautiful house of the Lord. Misery and hopeless is decreased, as well as an increase of love for God and each other!

Anyone can go to an open house, even members. I went to the Laie Hawaii open house (before the rededication), and I've been a member for over 3 decades. As for after dedication, well, there are worthiness standards, it's true. I don't personally find them difficult to live, but I've been fortunate enough to never fall into the horrible, nigh-inescapable trap of addiction in it's many forms (which many fall into through no fault of their own due to the incredibly poor state of the for-profit US medical system). If it makes you feel better, though, even worthy members are sometimes not allowed to be given their endowments while alive due to health issues. I, myself, have medically-necessitated clothing restrictions that interfere with my ability to attend the temple. I can't wear sleeves due to severe damage to both arms that could easily result in permanent loss of use of one or both arms if aggravated by even something as simple as a t-shirt sleeve worn for a few minutes, let alone long sleeves, which are wildly out of the realm of what is reasonable or safe for me. I wrote to President Monson years ago at the urging of a Temple President, and the reply, though sympathetic, explained that since I cannot wear garments I cannot have my endowments in this life, despite the fact that I have for decades and continue to live worthy of that blessing. Sometimes, we must wait for blessings we desire to have, and we don't always know the reasons why. Sometimes we get injured because of the actions of others, and we must suffer innocently. Sometimes it might even seem unfair. After all, I ended up with this painful debilitating damage to my body because of mistakes made by doctors who failed to recognize my condition and accurately predict the dire consequences of their unwise actions. Nevertheless, the doctors didn't do it on purpose. It was an honest mistake. We've all been human enough to make those ourselves, I'd imagine. Furthermore, having someone walking around in a sleeveless dress, wearing neither a bra nor a waistband (I can't wear those either, also due to medical damage)... well, I can see how my lack of ability to wear normal clothing could be disruptive to other temple patrons, something I wouldn't wish to do. Maybe some would be understanding or forgiving of my exigency, but others might be angered or embittered by this, interfering with their clearly-much-greater-need-than-my-own to feel the spirit's influence. The Lord knows my heart. In the end, I know that I will not be denied ANY blessing, so long as I live according to the laws upon which that blessing is predicated (D&C 130:21). I'm sure that, whatever your situation, the same will be true for you, as well. As Elder Holland promised in his April 2012 General Conference address titled "The Laborers In The Vineyard": "I do not know who in this vast audience today may need to hear the message of forgiveness inherent in this parable, but however late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines. Whether you are not yet of our faith or were with us once and have not remained, there is nothing in either case that you have done that cannot be undone. There is no problem which you cannot overcome. *There is no dream that in the unfolding of time and eternity cannot yet be realized.*"

I received my endowment in this temple, so every sight of it stirs love in my heart. Alone there, I was helped by and became friends with a very nice couple who had come, "by coincidence" - i.e., the Lord's exquisite timing - on a ward trip. 🕍 ❤
