This really pisses me off. I was laid off about 2 months ago when they were down sizing bc Tesla was “struggling financially”. Tesla workers need to unionize!! I personally know that they treat their employees unfairly and don’t compensate them fairly!!

@YouDontWantItWithMe 😂 Tesla has slashed the workforce by 14 percent this year alone while giving Musk this ridiculous package. Maybe they should have used the package to keep that workforce instead? Then again this is exactly what corporations do in order to give their CEOs and investors bonuses. Also Elon has been using government money, tax dollars especially with Space X, Elon hasn't invested almost anything of his own money in a very long time. Elon is so smart that Twitter is now worth only 15 billion which is a far cry for what he paid for it.

If you think Elon doesn't deserve the comp package you can take it up with the 70%+ of shareholders that disagree with you. It sucks that so many people were laid off but some would be rehired and in the coming years Tesla will continue to gradually hire more people. You can't expect every company not to lay people off just because it's sad they'll lose their job. Also Tesla has probably made more millionaires than any other company due to their employees earning stock and it doing so well.

If you listen to anyone who knows what they are talking about that read the pay package back in 2018 they all said it was crazy and he would never achieve all the necessary milestones for him to earn the full payout. It was performance based. If Tesla didn't perform he didn't get paid. No other CEO would agree to that kind of comp package. The comp package also had to be approved by a majority of shareholders. Over 70% of shareholders approved it both times.

He's not getting $56bn in cash, it's in options. He increased the market cap of Tesla from $50bn to $650bn so he's getting a 10% commission. If he hadn't achieved this he would've received nothing, not even a salary. High risk high reward.

I'm a Tesla shareholder and voted for the compensation package. The options were already allocated in 2018 so no value was lost, it was simply abiding by a high risk high reward package that had previously been agreed. If Tesla hadn't achieved the success it had he would have received nothing, not even a salary. With Elon at the helm the company has the best chance of succeeding in the future and it was important to me that he was incentivised to stay at Tesla for the long term.

I don't understand all of this. If the rich took all the bribes that they spend on one individual CEO's salary, and funneled that money directly to employees, don't they think that they employees would all owe their allegiance to the shareholders, who improved their salaries? Don't they think that the employees would bend over backwards, to make sure that the products kept moving out the door? They would be good quality products. Isn't that good enough? Can't they just comply with some safety regulations and make this system work for the hundreds or thousands of employees?

Do you really believe a judge alone should have the power to make a company renege on a legal contract entered into in good faith, he raised the company's value by hundreds of billions of dollars something the board didn't think was possible in the specified time in the contract. They believed it was a win win deal either get Elons services for however many years free if he doesn't hit certain targets in that timeframe. So make shareholders a lot of money & get no pay or make shareholders a shit ton of money & get big bonuses, company wins either way. It depends on the structure. It's equity, he'll pay capital gains when he exercises or realizes the value. However, having it awarded at full value years after the initial award has grown potentially screws him on taxes and equity retention as you don't get taxed on an unrealized gain but do get taxed on an award. What the Delaware Chancery did was unprecedented, arbitrary and pretty obscene, overriding 70% of the stockholders decision by saying there was undue influence over the recommendation. Not the vote, the *recommendation*.

CEO pay is not the problem. Yes, billionaires are an incredible problem, a problem that demands our action. But CEO’s are generally hired hands. Musk is a billionaire owner who is also CEO. The best way to deal with billionaires is inheritance. Or taking away patents. Microsoft did not create MS DOS. Bill Gates knew it was there and bought it and patented it. The government could also limit the terms of the patent-that is the length of time a patent remains in place. I think my fellow libs should spend a little time studying corporations, because if Cenk and company had done that, i seriously doubt they would have had a really ill informed knee jerk reaction like this. Do they know about taxes on dividends as compared with wages? The 75 year old Walmart greeter who makes $20,000 will pay income taxes. The totally retired 75 year old who makes $20,000 a year in dividends pays either no income tax or pays income tax at a much lower rate. Does Cenk and company know that ownership income from things like dividends and rental income are favored over wages? That is where we should focus first.

we have to remember that Musk's incentive executive package was not worth this much back then. AND he had to meet several milestones in order to attain what is today's incentive pay package's worth. at it's original inception the milestones were considered to fairly difficult to attain. but he got there. so today's argument is misrepresented. and to say that he shouldn't earn bc it is TOO much is un-American. Musk has paid millions in taxes...so let's be real.

We need to stop using the term "earn". No one can possibly "earn" that amount of money.....they're simply being paid that much. The same hold true on the lower end. No one "earns" minimum wage.....they earn way more than that. They're just being paid minimum wage. Saying they're "earning" that amount makes it sound justified.
