Please join my new Facebook group "Patty Wirth Grooming Instructions" I would love to discuss this with you there.
I made this video to warn people what might happen if they shave a Pomeranian. The hair may grow back perfectly normally, it might grow back in patches or uneven or take a long time. Or it might not grow back at all. Better to pick a length to cut the hair that you can live with. I am a groomer, the owner wanted the dog short and did not care if it grew back slowly. Every fall he lets the coat grow until summer and most of it grows back.
Long , thick hair on a dog does not keep it cool. Shorter hair is alway cooler than long hair. Wolves, coyotes, foxes, horses, cows shed because shorter hair is cooler. Sheep need to be sheared so they will not be too hot. Thick wool does not keep the sheep cool. Humans do not wear thick coats on hot days to keep cool.
If you plan to shave your Pomeranian, pick a length you like, in case it does not grow back.
Thank you to all the nice people who make kind comments. I make videos because I enjoy helping and entertaining people. If you use foul language you will be deleted and reported. So keep the four letter words to yourself.

Patty, sad you are getting so much criticism for shaving a Pom. I rescued a 15 year old neglected one. She are starved and covered with hundreds of fleas, She barely had any fur on her. I nursed her back to health, fed her all organic food and much to everyone's surprise, her coat came back thick and luscious. After a two years, I could see she was miserable in the hot summer. Even though I loved her coat, I got her a lion cut to cool her down. SHE LOVED IT. Panting stopped. Her fur never would grow back too long on her body, but she lived to a happy an healthy 19 years old.

A vet can generally tell you a rough estimate of a pet's age. I say that my kitty passed away after being 14, but the age we got her is an estimate, so it's possible she was younger or older when she passed.

My Poms groomer warned me to never ever ever cut her hair as they're double coat helps them regulate their temperature and actually keeps them cooler in summer. She said it's a common misconception even for groomers to believe poms are more comfortable with short cuts in the summer heat even thought it's just the opposite.

@@pattywirth2518 double coat does keep a dog cool you ignorant fool. Dogs can't sweat and you can only make use of natural bariers like their fur to keep them cool and away from sunlight, they don't regulate their body temperature like humans. Poms may even develop a black skin disease if you cut them like this.

To Kimi, yes there are times the hair will not grow back, ever. If the dog is in a dormant hair growth stage, it won't grow back until they are out of that stage. If the dog has alopecia it will never grow back, but then it was going to all fall out anyway. As far as being ugly, that is up to the owner if they want the hair clipped, I am the groomer and I warn them, they will just go to another groomer if I refuse. I really don't mind them with short hair personally, but I never make mine short.

PLEASE do not use obscene language. For the people who keep asking me WILL MY DOGS HAIR GROW BACK IF I SHAVE IT. I covered this in the video. It may or may not. Every dog is different. Lots of people have commented that their dog did grow their hair back after a shave. Some dogs did not. I suggest an inch or longer trim with a shaved chest and belly for cooling the dog. It is that simple. And NO, long coat does not cool a dog off. That is why fur bearing canines shed in the summertime. IF you want to find a Pomeranian to rescue or buy, Facebook is full of breeders and rescues, just go there and look. If you want to contact me I can Facebook you if you give me the name you are using for Facebook. Thank you, Patty.

Daily brushing, with a soft brush, like that made for human babies, and nice massaging baths every two weeks will help stimulate a coat to grow back. I know, I shaved my terrier mix reverse #7 for 9 years. He always grew a lush coat back. No patches :) Just friendly experience to share..

as the owner of two rescue poms id like to address something ,the reason I and most pom owners have them trimmed is not because we prefer a short haired dog but because of their thick coats poms are at higher risk of heat stroke in hot weather,so we get then cut/trimmed to make THEM cooler and more comfortable in the summer,remember the ancestors of poms came from cold icy climates their fur wasn't meant for hot Midwest summers
@Artem-sp8rg
@Artem-sp8rg 6 жыл бұрын
_“Their fur wasn’t mean for hot midwest summers”_ Then maybe you shouldn’t buy a Pomeranian living in the desert. If you get a Pomeranian with a beautiful fur, just to turn it into a mongrel dog, maybe you should buy a mongrel instead.

@valeriegould1769
@valeriegould1769 6 жыл бұрын
Seriously? You are completely unaware that the Midwest is NOT the desert? Seven to nine months of the year, it is freezing cold in the Midwest. Freezing cold as in temperatures below 32 degrees and sometimes 0 or lower. The summers, however, are hot - 80s. to 90s. Considering how many dogs die in shelters, I think anyone who rescues their dogs and then makes sure their are happy, safe, and comfortable deserves applause.

Yes absolutely right I bought my Pom in Shanghai and during summer temperatures are pretty high like 40 celsius. Even evening walks were hard for the little baby. We now live in Malta and I do take her to the groomer twice or 3 times a year. I do ask not to cut it very short though. Her fur is wonderful and always grows back beautifully
@janelchartier3733
@janelchartier3733 5 жыл бұрын
Groomer here. I would actually like to say that cutting fur off of double coated dogs such as a pomeranian, husky, Japanese spitz, etc. will actually do more damage than it will do good. In fact, if you cut a double coated dog too short it actually takes away the upper layer of protection your dog naturally has against the sun which can cause them to burn. Also, as shown in this video when you shave their fur it sometimes causes the fur to come back course and wirey. Thus causing the fur to matt up more easily which in turn causes the dog to overheat quickly. I always warn my clients of these problems before shaving any pom but I usually try to convince them that the best option for their dog is to be brushed out completely at least once a week. This will keep their coat matt free and actually offers the dog their own built in cooling system as now the air can freely flow through their pups fur. Again, the reason for overheating is the result of packed in undercoat, once the undercoat is completely removed, using a slicker brush or comb, it will be like removing a winter jacket off of your pet. Remember proper maintenance of your dog's coat is always important. Just remember next time you feel like putting off that brushing what it would be like if you went weeks without brushing your own hair and how that would feel. A nicely brushed pet is a happy pet! Side note: if you feel like your dog is panting too much during warmer weather just be aware that it is okay for them to pant. Dogs do not have sweat glands all over their bodies like we do. They can only sweat through their paw pads. This is why they pant so much because as they do they evaporate moisture from their tongues, nasal passages, and the lining of their lungs, cooling them as air passes over the moist tissue. Seek out medical attention for your pet when you notice your dog is breathing deeply or rapidly, their gums look pale or dry, they are drooling excessively, or are in a weakened state.

Thank you so much for sharing this. My 7 year old boy pom Joey hates his long hair, and he constantly pants when its longer. We live in Arizona so it's usually too hot for him anyway. But after his recent shave a few months ago, I've felt like his coat is't growing back as quickly and it's a bit lighter in color than before. Interesting and good to know! No groomer that I've gone to has ever warned me of this. Thanks a lot.

I haven't read all 1,319 comments, but wanted to mention that a Pom who is losing (or has lost) most of its hair could have a thyroid deficiency. The vet can tell by a blood test if that is a problem. We have had two that had to have thyroid pills each day. Also, the one we have now with thyroid deficiency was also allergic to wheat or corn in her kibble. We went to a kibble that does not have wheat or corn in it, and her coat is looking very nice now. We have never had one of ours clipped in all the years we've had them (since about 1960). They are in an air-conditioned house in the summertime.

I am a professional Pom breeder. This DRIVES ME NUTS! It's one of my questions when screening potential homes before a litter is bred. I refuse to allow any puppy I produce be shaved like that. I work HARD to produce full coated examples with perfect structure. It is SO insane to me to want that gorgeous dog, then refuse to do the up keep. If you can't be bothered to do that, or have them trimmed regularly....you've gotten a pet based solely on a "look" or "idea" and not the actual temperament and character of the breed. Irks me to death! I have (as you can imagine) many Poms. It takes me 3 full days to groom them all, and it takes forever, and I eat 10 pounds of hair every month...but I am the one that committed to this breed. It's not their fault so I won't shave them out of laziness. ((DISCLAIMER: I AM AWARE OF MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT COULD REQUIRE SHAVING A POM))

My Pom has a triple coat so shaving is a must during the Summer. Before we knew to shave her, she got heat stroke. The vet told us to always shave her in the summer. It keeps her cooler and she always looks so happy afterward. She gets trimmed only during the winter to prevent her hair from growing too long. Fur doesn't grow much. Hair grows a lot more.

Thank you for these tips - so far my parti colored pom has always grown her full coat back but I never take her down too far. She is too hot probably 10 months out of the year - she is happiest in below 20 degrees and snow honestly, and is almost always too hot when she sleeps with me in bed, so she definitely loves a shorter cut.

I would like to share this info, since it worked fro us!! Our veterinary surgeon recommended that we give our last Pomeranian 1 human Melatonin tablet daily, to help promote hair/fur regrowth, after she had to be shaved to the skin for surgery on her whole hip and leg on one side. And, it worked! It took some time, but nothing else helped. And, her coat came back in almost as long and thick as it was before. We crushed the tablet to a powder and then mixed it with a tiny amount of water and gave it to her daily in an eye dropper to her mouth,.and it has pretty much no taste, so doing that worked well! There were no bad side effects from it either! I hope that this info helps anyone who is heartbroken that their luxurious Pomeranian's coat has not come back in from any reason for it needing to be shaved off. Good luck! :)

My elder rescue Pomeranian had her fur cut short regularly, so I'm keeping up with it. She went about 4-5 months without a trim and the fur all grew back well. But, she was always panting and hot. I just took her to the groomer last week for a nice short trim, but still fluffy around her face and tail. She stopped the constant panting and feels great. She seems so much happier now.

There is no "airflow " in-between the coats. It insulates during winter because the air is held there, that is why goose down coats are warm, that is why quilts and coats hold dead air space, it does not flow and does not flow in Pomeranian coat. Silliest thing I have ever heard. Thick long hair CANNOT POSSIBLE MAKE THE DOG COOLER.

Here is from an actual veterinarian site: albertnorthvetclinic.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/shaving-your-dogs-coat-should-you-or-shouldnt-you/ The question still remains then, why not shave them and just keep them out of the sun? For one, they may not actually be cool even if they are out of the sun, the topcoat can help to keep the heat off the skin itself and unlike people, dogs do not sweat through their skin. Dogs sweat by panting and in all but northern breeds, through the pads of the feet. Shaving them actually removes some of their natural ability to stay cool. Another reason is that when the hair does begin to grow back it tends to do strange things. For some, it may mean having patches that don’t grow at all, or that don’t grow both types of coat layers (top and under), older dogs often have issues with proper regrowth and then for others (which happens most often) the undercoat grows in faster than the topcoat (since the topcoat isn’t meant to shed extensively it grows extremely slowly) so now that protective topcoat is matted into the undercoat. Dogs like this generally appear as though they have thyroid issues. The hair looks fuzzy and varies in length all over the body. This doesn’t mean the coat will forever stay this way. Most of the time with regular brushing and the next shed cycle the topcoat will get longer while the undercoat sheds away, eventually leaving the coat the way it once was with long topcoat guard hairs and a thick shorter undercoat. One other thing to note about those topcoat guard hairs - they actually prevent the dog from getting wet. Due to the coarseness of the guard hairs water rolls off of this topcoat keeping the undercoat dry, which in the winter is important to keeping the dog warm and dry.

From personal experience on hundreds of dogs who maintain a heavy coat all year THEY ARE COOLER WHEN THE COAT IS SHORTER. That is why I trim Jitters shorter. She lays on the bed and pants and then I know she needs a cut. Even brushed out she is too warm. Thousands of Pom owners agree with me because we have personal experience.

@amethystsquirrel unscientific sources - these are all from blogs. As for those from the vet sites - I know for a FACT they do not base their opinions on sources, as I have asked a vet I am good friends with to find some studies on whether shaving makes a dog cooler (or not), and there is nothing out there. No temperature readings, no double blind studies, nothing. Any information that people claim to have on whether a dog is cooler through being shaved or not being shaved is 100% heresay. My physics background tells me that a shaved dog will always be cooler than a non shaved one due to heat transfer, but we need scientific studies to say so (and to say the opposite if that is true). So far, none exist, so the claim that not shaving is better for the dog holds no firm ground.

I have a Pom who gets shaved every spring, otherwise he gets hot spots. He also seems to be very intolerant of heat. He's also hyper-allergic to fleas, so if he gets one flea bite he ends up losing most all of his fur and it takes about three months for it to start growing back. In the meantime, he looks like a squirrel with mange!! ='( And his little nekkid legs look like grinch legs!!! ='( When his fur finally does start growing back, it look just like the baby in this video.. all choppy looking. At the recommendation of our former groomer, I started giving my baby NuVet Plus wafers (1/2 wafer with breakfast and 1/2 wafer with dinner) and also an Nzyme Antioxidant wafer crumbled up in his breakfast in the morning. OMG! The is a huge ball of fluff now!! I can not believe how much thicker and luxurious his fur came in. Yay!!! Oh, there's one more thing I've been doing as well. A friend recommended an essential oil blend she was using on her cats for other reasons, so I thought I'd try it on my Pompom to repel fleas, ticks and mosquitos and possibly heal any hot spots. I do a "raindrop" therapy by putting a drop of the oil just above his tail and massaging it into his spine, then another mid-back, then another at the base of his neck and one on top of his head between his ears. Prior to using this essential oil blend, I would have to give him 2.5 mg of Prednizone (which I ABHOR) every other night otherwise he'd scratch, chew, lick and throw himself all over the bed and try to burrow under the covers. Since doing this rainbow therapy, he's been sleeping through the night and not chewing or scratching nearly as much ... AND ... BONUS ... I haven't had to give him any more Prednizone. I'm not sure if this blend has contributed to his beautiful coat or not, but it's possible. Here is the recipe I use. BE SURE TO USE THERAPEUTIC grade organic essential oils if you decide to try this... and test it on one spot on your dog to make sure he/she is not sensitive or allergic to any of the oils. In a 30 ml bottle, I mix 4 drops of each of the following essential oils: Marjoram, Oregano, Thyme, Frankincense, Sweet Basil, Cypress, and Lavender (6 drops). Then I fill the bottle to just below the neck with carrier oil. I use V6 by Young Living but you can use Organic Olive Oil or Jojoba Oil or fractionated Coconut Oil. I buy my oils from Ananda Apothecary because they are high quality and not nearly as expensive as a network marketing company. My Pom is approximately 7 years old (he was rescued, don't know true age) and we've been doing the rainbow therapy for a month now and he seems very content and calm, sleeps better, and again, his coat looks fantastic. Hope this helps. =)

If the issue is that the dog is getting too hot why would you shave the dog? Doing that only clips the guard and undercoat at the same time and as a groomer I would think she would know that the guard and undercoat do not grow at the same rate. That is what is causing those weird re-growth pattern, because she is destroying the coat. I semi-understand if a client wants a cute cut like the "boo" cut but clipping a double coated breed to stay cool makes no sense, in my opinion the dog should have been carded out so all the dead undercoat can shed and the guard coat lie flat. Both the guard and undercoat need to be healthy to insulate the dog for both cold and heat, also way to sign your dog up for sunburn.

It is a mistake to think you are helping your dog stay cool when evolution has provided them exactly what they need to survive. By stripping them of their natural ability to heat and cool themselves, you are doing more harm than good. To better understand in this matter is that, unlike humans; dogs do not cool themselves through their skin. At most, it is only the pads of their paws that sweat. Their main mode of cooling comes from panting. Another misconception is, "it will always grow back". Sometimes it will, other times it won't. The older the dog is, the less likely it is that the topcoat of guard hairs will grow back. Another contributing factor is the overall health and diet of the dog. This leaves them with just the undercoat, giving them a patchy, scruffy look. It can alter their coat for the rest of the dog's life. Not only does it look bad, but you can end up having to shave the hair continuously from then on and once again, you strip them of their natural ability to protect themselves. When you shave a double coated dog, you may irreparably impair their ability to properly heat/cool themselves and protect their skin. The best way to keep these breeds cool and comfortable is to regularly bathe and brush them. The only reason a person might need to shave their double coated dog is if the hair is so matted, that would be the only option. I've spent the majority of my adult life studying dog behavior and physiology before embarking on a grooming career. I wouldn't go shaving dogs so recklessly without educating myself on how the coat type affects the dogs. Would you shave a husky? An Akita? How about a Chow Chow? Yes, carding takes time, effort and is a long process but that is how those breeds stay cool. I'm not trying to criticize, only try and educate on this common misconception.

Patty, I have a non-standard Pom (nine pounds, fit). Spitz breeds come from a much cooler, less humid climate than much of the American midwest and south. After observation I have concluded a shave cut is beneficial to her in the hot, humid summers here. She pants much less and is more able to partake in vigorous activity in the summer climate here. I have shaved her since her first summer when her non-suitability for heat and humidity became apparent. In the winter I let her grow long, and have not had any issues with her double coat not growing in properly. Yes it is the owners' choice, but I would recommend a shave cut for Poms that are going to be walked or played outside in hot and humid weather, especially non-standards. I also bathe her in an oatmeal shampoo and put in leave-in conditioner to keep her coat and skin healthy.

Trimming and shaving in the summer - While it might not make sense at first, it's important to note that the thick double coat of the Pomeranian does not make the puppy or dog any hotter in the summer at all. It is common for people to think that having such thick fur might be similar to wrapping up in a thick blanket on a hot day. However, canines are much different than us. It's better to think about how proper insulation in a house does keep the house warm in the winter, but in the summer it works to block heat and keep a house cooler than it would be otherwise. This is what a Pomeranian's fur does. The skin pores on the main body of a dog do not produce any relevant amounts of perspiration. This is done via the paws and when a dog breaths. If you shave a Pom in the summer, this is a bad idea in several ways: 1. It will be counterproductive; you will be removing the very thing that works as a natural cooling system. 2. If the fur is shaved, the rays of the sun are now going to be reaching the skin. This can result in full body sunburns and at the very least it will be very drying to the skin. 3. If the inner layer is cut into, the coat may never (ever!) grow back to what it once was. And this is really a shame

I am a newer owner of a Pom going on 2 years now, and love the shaved look! My dog has more energy and looks good too. I’ve actually had trouble getting my favorite groomer to cut the hair short enough. They keep warning me how it will not grow back well. Understood. The key point is once you groom your Poms hair short you should just keep it that way. Don’t expect to make the hair long again in the winter and look good. Just get a dog sweater. When looking for information on the web I frequently come across the statement: “Long hair actually helps a Pom keep cool in warmer weather”. I don’t understand how so many people blindly repeat this illogical and unscientific statement without questioning it. I’m glad to see that you do not do this and explain why this is false.

Long coat never makes a dog cooler. Perhaps you should take a physics class. Why would a wolf or a cow or a horse or any animal that lives outside shed it's winter coat. Wolves shed big thick felted patches of coat, why...because they cannot cool off with all that undercoat. Yes in may insulate , but insulation KEEPS HEAT IN ALSO. Learn something before you publish your opinion. I made the video to warn people what might happen if you shave a Pom coat. I guess you missed that part. In the end I will make a short trim if the client wants it.

Yes their fur protects them from the heat on a very small minute scale. I dare you to sit outside in 100 degrees in a heavy wool sweater and a pair of jeans. Believe me, you'll start to feel the heat and you most likely won't begin to cool down. If having more layers on you was better for you in the heat, then why do people wear less in the summertime. I mean come on it's basic common sense! If you don't believe me, then I dare you to wear a winter coat this summer and never take it off and sit outside all day in the full on hot sun. If you do, I guarantee you will not be cool, but you will be near death. It's just basic common sense, the more layers you have on the more you will begin to hold onto heat and it's not so much the holding onto heat that is dangerous, it is the sweating that begins when the body tries to cool itself down. That's when dehydration begins and that's when you reach points of being in a deadly situation. I believe it's beneficial to keep your dog's coat a bit shorter in the summer, but they really don't need you to chop their fur down to the skin, matter of fact they don't need you to cut their fur at all, if they naturally shed. It's only dogs that don't shed that need regular trims. There's a reason why they naturally shed in the summer and grow more fur in the winter. They already automatically regulate their body heat without our help. Their body intuitively knows when to grow more fur for protection from the cold in the winter days and then the excess fur is lost automatically, when they shed, in the hot summer days to protect them from being overheated because of a heavy coat. It's the dogs that don't shed that need the regular trimmings as they don't have the ability to shed that excess coat, but dogs that do shed on their own will be just fine in the summer without a trim. I had a spitz and never had her coat shaved. In the winter her coat would automatically bulk up and she was nice and warm for the winter and then when spring and summer rolled around she shed BIG TIME... believe me, she didn't need my help to cut anything, she was taking care of that herself. All she needed from me, was a regular brushing to help her get rid of that old excess winter coat. Dogs don't need to be fussed over as much as people think they do. In the hot summertime all they need is for you to supply extra water in their dish and a good place to rest in the shade and to be let in the house for coolness from the air conditioner from time to time.

Whitney Jones Your missing one key component, humans sweat dogs don't, except through thier paw pads. heat travels to cool areas if the dog is cooled off by panting or sweating on its paws then a full coat will insulate them. if you are worried about a dog in the summer give a dog a pool of ice or take it inside cutting itsfur doe not help

When I adopted my Pomeranian's they had been shaved because they had terrible mats. One of them, Koda, grew in a top coat but you could see straight through it to his skin. He was always cold so we bought him a sweater and after a few months with the sweater his under coat began to come back. Hes very foofy now and has a nice thick coat, which is great because were about to move to Alaska. I'm not saying this is a standard case but I was sure glad when he grew it back in.

Isn’t this sad? No Spitz/Samoyed Double-coated dog should ever be clipped or shaved. Their coats come back not only in strange patterns, but the TEXTURE of the fur is physicologically altered. The “Guard Coat” just won’t grow back normally. What a pity. Hope the owner understands it’s not YOUR CHOICE to clip a Spitz breed double-coated dog? Incidentally, I realise we as humans FEEL these dogs are too hot in the Summer but they’re not unless as you’ve seen here, the Guard Coat is damaged. Wow, this is so sad!

DAMD Swah maybe people don’t care if their coats come in different because they never want their coat to be long? Ever think about that? I don’t care that my dogs coat comes in different because he is always nicely groomed so that means nothing to me.

And it’s my dog and it is my choice? That is the dumbest thing o have ever heard! It’s not abuse to cut hair! So stupid...if it was abuse then it wouldn’t be a choice you have, but it’s not abuse, my dog is happy and loved and super spoiled...get a life and a grip

"As days become longer and temperatures warmer, dogs shed their undercoat, allowing them to stay cooler in warm weather (vital for an animal whose only sweat glands are in his foot pads)." - Dog.com. I'm sorry, but you obviously have no idea what you're talking about as far as why dogs have the coats that they have if you truly believe dogs' long fur doesn't work to cool them down. Dogs have 2 types of fur: undercoat and guard hair. IF they have both, the undercoat SHEDS and the soft (long) guard hair STAYS. This happens NATURALLY and has for thousands of years without human interaction!! There are pictures all over the internet that show 'undercoat vs guard hair' importance! You are right in telling people their dog's coat may NOT grow back, but you are 100% WRONG saying the long hair doesn't work to cool the dog. IN FACT, if you SHAVE IT OFF it can cause the dog to have a heat stroke. Do research before getting honory about something that nature created. Ultimately, I don't really care what you tell people.. because you're obviously too justified feeling to do research and change your mind.. it's people like you that keep me in business.. informing owners of proper coat maintenance and making sure they know the health risks. And... the guard hair doesn't grow back sometimes because there are about 100 undercoat hairs per 1 guard hair (aka primary hair) in a single follicle. The reason it doesn't grow back is because when shaved closely, the follicle can get overwhelmed and will shut down.. therefore not producing primary hairs.. and sometimes.. not producing ANY hairs. ALSO, primary hair grows at about half the speed as undercoat.. so the undercoat will also grow and show up quicker than the soft, nice looking guard hair... which also means your dog will DEFINITELY be more likely to overheat if it's hot outside. :) anyways, ill stop wasting my words, good luck! have a great day!

Guard hair always grows back first. Both shaved dogs have long guard hair. Undercoat may stop growing or grow very slowly. You have it backwards, "miss know it all." LOOK AT A WOLF OR A HORSE OR A COW. You will see the coat fall in big sheets and the coat left is short and shiny.

From what I'm finding the person is right. The undercoat will most likely always grow back, but the guard hairs always grow back super slow or not at all. And the reason that other animals shed like that is because they are shedding their undercaot. I'm not a groomer though, however, this is just from looking up stuff on the internet. The guard hairs are apparently what helps the animals the most because that's what helps the cool air get in towards the bottom of the skin and they also reflect the suns rays away as well. So technically shaving a double coated dog is the worst thing you can do for them for that reason alone. Plus if the guard hairs are the slowest to grow back then that can really damage the dogs skin over time.

Thank you for your advice Patty! I had a friend who'd warned me about this when she saw that I owned a Pom, as she had previously owned a Pom who she'd taken to the groomer for a haircut and its hair didn't grow back. I didn't know if this was a possibility for every Pom or just an episode that had occurred concerning only her dog. For that reason, I've never had either of the Poms that I've owned professionally trimmed. I've done very little trimming myself when they'd had a mat or when their ends became scraggly. Now I know what should be safe to trim and what may not be. Thank you again! I ♥ my Poms Mom!
