Top 10 Signs You're Watching a British Movie
Subscribe: bit.ly/2tVCcUH
Forget the Hollywood gloss and straight, white teeth, we’d rather have grey skies, dingey pubs and dodgy slang! For this list, we're counting down the subtle (and not so subtle) indicators that the film you're watching is a British production. With stylised shots, bleak backdrops and ultra-realistic storylines, they just don't make 'em like this across the pond!
#10. It Only Exists in London
#9. Stylised Swearing
#8. Niche Cameos
#7. The Rise of the Underdog
#6. Budget Blockbuster
#5. A Legendary Soundtrack
#4. Foreign Villains
#3, #2, #1: ???

I think British movies are more interesting than American movies. If a movie or TV series is British, it is a mark of quality for me. I also think that British actors are the best in the world. They often feel very human and real.

@Widdekuu91
@Widdekuu91 5 жыл бұрын
+Harry Browne Not to me. It's so much easier to define British culture (for me) in stereotypes. I mean...before I knew the stereotypes, I'd just say; 'They are weird, and unlike my culture." Now I can define; 'We commonly are direct and rude, they commonly are repressed and polite.' It helps me understand why the movies or comedians are the way they are. Because it is a stereotype, but the weakened version of that stereotype, ís the culture.

Harry Potter didn't have a truly happy ending. Yes Voldemort was killed but so was Dumbledore, Snape, Lupin, Tonks, and one of the Weasley twins. You would think everyone would cheer knowing Voldemort was gone for good and Neville killed Negini. But everyone was all in shock. They all just looked exhausted which probably what would REALLY happen.

Not so much movies, but television, two things: First for some bizarre reason the director has to focus the camera on something that has nothing to do with the story-a old couple walking down the street, a sleeping dog a lamp post- absolutely no reason for it. The other thing they do is when something important is being said the sound man focuses his microphone on the background noise: ( "So inspector that means the killer we'll have to hur Well that solves everything." ) What is THAT all about?

10. It only exists in London: Really? What to make of, say, "All Creatures Great and Small" which isn't in London...ever. 9. Stylized swearing: Which was the last UK film that didn't have swearing in it? None that I can recall... 8. Niche cameos: One big problem I have is...recognizing "the UK celebrity." 7. The rise of the underdog: A consequence of The Class System. 6. Budget blockbuster: The Pound Sterling doesn't go as far these days... 5. A legendary soundtrack: Maybe, but I'm not up to the latest UK Pop. (Or U.S. Pop either, for that matter.) 4. Foreign villains: Yep, there's nothing like a "Bond villain" to make the countdown to doom go faster. 3. Gritty Northern towns: What other kind is there, since "everyone wants to live in the South of England"? 2. Jokes you don't get: Sometimes it seems that I'm watching a Japanese/Korean/Chinese/Russian/German film. 1. Realistic, Bittersweet moments: What to make of "Bridget Jones's Baby," then? *Back in the Ealing studios days, all one had to do was look at the cast and crew names. Not a non-English name in sight. (Paterson, Jones, Smith, Coliingwood, Colman, etc. Also a feature of older Canadian movies/TV.) Also, English speaking characters drive on the left hand side of the road, though "people from OZ and NZ" do also.

You just want to disagree on principle. I doubt you even know how large a multi-national like Disney or Warner Bros.(WB) really are. Disney owns Disney+ABC(one of the majors in US Television)+Marvel Studios+Lucasfilm and is about to by Fox. WB is big but is small compared to Disney. Even after WB is brought by AT&T a leading telecom in the US it will still be not as powerful as Disney. The UK does not even have a entertainment company the size of WB as it is now. Your the one that knows next to nothing about the global cinematic business.
