I had no idea this flight was so significant! Join me onboard an inaugural Loganair service between Aberdeen Scotland and Oslo Norway. We'll hop across the North Sea on an Embraer, see some of magnificent Norway from the air, take the fast train to the city, jump aboard the most scenic Metro I've ever been on, and take a look at the home of a Norwegian obsession that scares the life out of me! All in a days adventurising :)
Filmed 5th September 2022.
ABZ OSL 08:30 11:05 LM59
Flight price £99.99 inc seat selection (8A)
I will be continuing my journey from Oslo in the next video, stay tuned for that one!

Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

I just had to laugh when the bagpiper stopped playing at 6:15 at the same time as you can hear a jet engine spooling down in the background. Perfect timing!

You've hit the mark yet again. You just seem to have the personality for it. And that's the word - you somehow make these videos personal, almost like it's one-to-one. I once stood at the top of a ski slope, in Rovaniemi on the Finnish Arctic Circle, and how anyone could launch themselves down that is beyond me.

Way back when I was a youngster I went on the bus over to Cheltenham with my cousin and sister to watch the movie The Delinquents (Kylie Minogue film). For some reason it wasn't showing in our big cinema in Gloucester so we had to go to the dark side of the Golden Valley. As the bus was heading into Cheltenham along Gloucester Road Eddie the Eagle crossed over the road behind the bus, not on skis though, just on foot. We were all agog, "THERE'S EDDIE THE EAGLE" we exclaimed excitedly. None of the other passengers batted an eyelid!

What a fantastic journey this is so far!! I'm really enjoying this one Steve.....lots of things that I love to travel on.....regional jets, fast modern trains & interesting metro lines & this just about covered it all. Oslo is gorgeous....clean & green, looks like a beautiful city for sure......like you, it would be nice to see the ski jump but you wouldn't get me to go down it on a couple of match sticks (I don't ski anyway to begin with) & I'm not sure I'd do the zip line either!! Anyway....thanks again & cheers mate...looking forward to the on-going story on this one!

Steve that was so enjoyable. My teenage years were spent in Norway and Sweden. I lived in Oslo for 2.5yrs as a teenager so I was immersed in this video, especially Holmenkollen as I used to ski and sled the slops up there (not the ski jump though). That’s a newer ski jump than when I lived there. Great that they have a viewing platform at the top. Now I yearn to revisit. What a treat for you with the arrival at Oslo with the water tank and bagpipes playing. I’d be intrigued by a cost breakdown on your trip videos. Once again thanks so much 👏

Your visit to the ski-jump reminds me of the visit my son and I made to the ski-jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I was amazed it was free to visit (can you imagine that in Britain?), but what I most remember is my then two year old son (in a pushchair after becoming tired of walking) asking me crossly after I had paused whilst pushing him up the hill to the top of the ski jump, "Why have we stopped Daddy? How timely Steve! I came across a CD (remember them) with photos from Digital Camera (remember them 😂) from my trip to Oslo and Bergen in 2007. We went up to Holmenkollen as part of a day tour that also took in the ship museums and Vigeland Park. We saw the old sky jump, i think it was demolished the next year and replaced with that new modern one. I remember being amazed flying from Oslo to Bergen in mid summer and seeing all the snow topped mountains 😊

usual quality blog. i have to giggle at my memories of abz airport from 53 years ago when i was frequent oil worker trash passing through. Back then a growing bunch or white porto cabins. No permanent structure. Biggest place was the bar with about 4 joined mobile cabins. Eatery forget it.

Sounds amazing! Such a shame all airports look and feel so alike these days

I was quite surprised by the room, was almost nervous about what was awaiting me, but would go back there in a shot! :)

Good trip Steve. I've visited Oslo on mid summers day when there was a marathon on so was given the penthouse in a hotel. It was luxury and never got dark. The castle next to the old central station, by the harbour, is also a great visit. Notice you could not afford a beer though! Notoriously expensive. There is a nice park near the Palace. And you are so right about scotrail windows. Looking forward to the next part on the ferry. Allan.

Cheers Allan! Oof imagine being in a penthouse in Oslo!!! That would've been more than £70 for sure :D

Here I could actually change my comments from "oh wow" to "oh no, no, no, no, no". Up at the top of that ski jump that's where you got the no no no no no, you almost got something else too but I couldn't put that here. What a beautiful city! And I agree, no wonder it's expensive takes money to stay that pretty. Can't wait for the ferry ride. You know I'm all about the journey. And what a fun thing, to be in a water cannon salute. That actually got a "yippee" out of me! Say hi to Alicja for me. Be well, stay safe, travel far, love from Texas.

Thanks so much Kate! I'm skipping forward a couple of weeks, but just wait until you see the video Alicja filmed yesterday - puts my wee ski jump to shame :D She's a brave girl! All the best and have a great weekend!

Another video Steve that brings back memories of a previous trip I made. To celebrate my mums 60th in 2007 we got ferry from Newcastle to Bergen then train to Oslo, ferry to Copenhagen and flew back to stanstead. We visited the ski jump..only trouble was that the day we went it was misty and raining and when I got to the top I couldn’t even see down to the bottom of the slope!! Was fantastic though! Keep up the good work and look forward to the next video 😃

Wow! And what a great trip - I guess they don't do that ferry route anymore? Otherwise I'd be on it like a shot!

Yeah. It was run by DFDS but they stopped it September 2008 which was a great shame. From memory the crossing was 26 hours and the last couple of hours along the Norwegian coast was some of the best scenery I’ve seen!
