I purchased the Waterborne Surf adapter to install it on my Globe The All Times longboard. To my bitter surprise, I found that the front adapter housing was too narrow to accommodate the truck base. I had to file the base of the front truck half a millimeter on one side and half a millimeter on the other to get it in. I believe that the manufacturer and all advisors of this product should warn potential buyers that they may encounter this difficulty. Other than that, the adapter works just fine.

Nice review - pretty much spot on. I might try my penny truck on my waterborne setup for fun. Also have a Swelltech Hybrid, and cross training between them is awesome - I've noticed the waterborne forces you to push and drive onto the front foot when you're coming out of a turn to keep momentum, so when I jump on the swelltech - which is like liquid by comparison - I'm able to maintain more speed coming out of turns.

I've been sharing this on the surfskate subreddit for a bit now. I found while beta testing the fin that I can toss some Riptide Krank Fatcones in the rail adapter, wide side board side, and it's 1000x better than any riser you can get. I can actually steer my wb setup with my back foot and the fatcones keep me super stable. The lean is much more controlled

Props for the excellent review, it is informative and detailed plus the riding is stellar. I have a CX Carver, a Penny Highline, & a Waterborne Surf & Rail adapter on a Landyachtz Tugboat with 155mm Bear Trucks in front & back with 60mm 78a OJ's. I noticed you have those narrow Penny trucks in front, are they better in comparison if you have the same size truck back & front? I'm thinking of doing the same on the Landyachtz Tugboat as an experiment. I'm pretty sure your point of view would be spot since you've tried them, just to want to make sure if it is worth considering. I'm happy with my current quiver but curious how the narrow front truck performs.

Hey, excellent channel and vid, thanks Shane - liked and subscribed. Did you find the shorter wheelbase due to the rail adapter negative in any way? Was the shorter wheelbase problematic, or did it make your surf skate turn even more aggressively? I just purchased the Waterborne surf skate adapter via Penny's website because I plan to install it on my 27" or 32" Penny board, but I wasn't even aware of the rail adapter until today, and it sounds like the additional 30 degrees of lean it provides makes it a winner, eh? Thanks for your feedback. Keep up the great job with your channel! Cheers!

Is there an ideal wheel base? I feel maybe my first set up is a bit short. What is the purpose of 2 different size trucks? Is their an ideal wheel durometer? I currently have indy 169 trucks and G Bones wheels set up. Just did a video of my set up and first ride. It didn't go so well 😂. But I think it will be a good time and a bit of a break from my normal slam sessions of trying to learn tricks at 44.

very nice setup, it seems to remind the swelltech, but with much easier pumping. I would worry about the nose being lower than the tail, however your riding is excellent, I wonder if you just compensate with your skills or if you actually like a lower nose. The fix is easy, use a regular 6 inch skate truck in the back . I never heard about anybody breaking it, but it is always good to have a nose longer than the tip of the adapter, specially for beginners that can kill somebody smashing it on a leg :D gotta look more of your videos, thanks for sharing and work hard on them

Hi Shane, great review. I have a few questions. The rear trucks, do they need to be really tight? The front trucks, how tight do they need to be? I have tried something crazy but it may be overkill, I've put the Surfskate adapter on but used Gullwing sidewinder trucks on both front and back and its just sooooooo loose. The surfskate adapter is not the waterbourne one so not sure it has that spring action that straightens it out like yours. I also have a convex board so not sure if i've really overdone it. Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations in advance

I have a Carver Mini Simms with c7 & love carving on it. Have a Shake Jun 31x7.8” board & considering fitting it with a waterborne. I currently use solely my back foot (compression/extension) when distance pumping on my carver. Can I do the same with the waterborne ? Will the waterborne fit on my Shake board or my Mini Simms? I can swap them about if needed. The wheel base on the carver deck is 15” just 1” more then the Shake deck. After using the waterborne, is the carving better then the c7 if fitted on the same deck? Many thanks again for your videos which this 60yo started learning from 3 months ago:) Keep up the good work!

(replying to myself) I've set them up on a cheap-ish cruiser, it works pretty well. You do get a surfskate experience but personnally I found that a proper surfskate is sligthly better (I've tried swelltech and yow which I both liked). The advantage of waterborne is that it's slightly cheaper and you can set it up on any board.

@@shanelai2515 Thanks, Shane. I'll check VivaVideo out. As for my Surf Skating, I think I'm improving steadily. I need to strengthen my quads and hamstrings so that I can bend better and smoother. But I am conscious of my every move, groove, sway, & rhythm. How my hands, arms, hips, legs, ankles move speeds or slows. I like more pronounced carves, but it slows down the speed as opposed to higher frequency little waves. At least after about 6 weeks since starting off, with about 3 times a week practice, I can now surf a 4 km flat bitumen running track without needing to kick the pavement at all. Just carving. Lots more to learn. Having fun along the way. Cheers!

The rail adapter would have added significant height to the back of the board. How did you level the board ?

@nicolacrespi9298 4 жыл бұрын
Shane Lai Yes true. I put 4 carver risers on the c7 In this way the board is quite high, but I don’t see it as a problem

@@shanelai2515 I am 6" tall and I have just bought a Waterborne surf adapter. I have no idea of what deck size and wheelbase is good for me. I guess I will use Smoothstar FT 77# as a reference and copy its dimensions. I am a surfer. This is my first surfskate. Nice vídeos! Thanks!

Why a 22" penny truck instead of a wider truck?

The narrower front truck is more responsive to force applied

About your setup. You should not use the C2 truck is too hight, and also the penny truck is too narrow. Use normale low and wide trucks

Yeah true. I wanted to try very loose trucks. And for the narrow front truck, i was borrowing from swelltech's design.
